Oh dang what a day, what a lousy day…I awoke to the alarm…I hate that…overnight the cold I have blossomed into full bloom…I awoke stuffed up feeling miserable…and every joint in my body aching…and if there was anyway I thought that I could have called in sick today and they (that is the plant I work for) could have covered for my absence I would have called in sick…but they couldn’t…so I couldn’t…I have over 35 years service…call it dedication…call it stupidity…call it what you want but I went in and managed to do the deed…
One thing I really hate…probably more then anything on the face of this earth is to have someone who has no real idea of what I do…and couldn’t “do the deed” with anything less then 5 people helping them…but they think that they can tell me how to do my job…dang…
So late in the day I’m loading 8 pallets on the truck for the ‘Cuse to be switched to another trailer for delivery down south…I hear a pop and a snap and I’m in big trouble…the lift hits the right wall of the trailer and I’m in big trouble…
My first instinct is to jump and run, and get the h*ll off the trailer but I remain calm, manage to drive the lift off and then go out side to check what had happened…the 4 support beams that the dollies rest on…(the drop down supports that hold a trailer up when a tractor is not underneath it) had twisted and buckled…I was fortunate that the trailer hadn’t twist completely and ended up on it’s side or broken in half…my guardian angels deserve hazardous duty pay on that one…
So at days end I was all in but needed to replace my mouse…just as I was getting ready to shut down last night my optic mouse died…no little red light…so ended up first at big lots…okay so I’m cheap but they didn’t have anything…and then to staples…got another optic mouse…with a adapter for either a USB port or the PS2 port…tried it in the USB port first…no joy…I needed the disc for the ME software that I don’t have…for what ever reason my Ex took it when she left me…why the heck I’ve never figured out because her computer ran XP…but fortunately it came with an adapter that would fit either the USB port or the PS2 port and plugged into the PS2 it’s “plug and play”…
Had a lite dinner of some leftovers and set a pot to boil with the fixing’ for pea soup…and a late supper of pea soup and buttered hard rolls…
I feel decent tonight…despite the fact that I have to make an appearance at work tomorrow…despite the fact that I might have to spend a half day there on a Saturday…I hate overtime…of which I already have 3 hours this week…mind you I love the extra money…but not withstanding …I hate working even 1 minute on the sixth day…that means no day this week without the alarm being set…of all of the inventions created on GD’s green earth I hate the alarm the most…I also hate cattle prods but that’s an entirely different story (hehe)

First episode of the new survivor series, and IMHO the worst, most stupid vote off of all time…they are in four tribes, 4 older men (including an ex-F14 pilot and an ex-astronaut), 4 younger men, 4 younger woman, and 4 older woman…well semi-predictably the older woman lost the first immunity challenge…now we got 3 more or less city girls and one country girl…heck the lady is a Lumber Jill, and the only real athlete of the bunch…so who do they vote off…you got it the athlete…they better hope for a merge or a twist pretty dang quick or they’re toast…oy vey
Work was well work…late as he was leaving boss stopped by my office…if you can call a 8’x8’ cubical with no ceiling and a conveyor belt running over it at office…I was scheduled to take Saturday off…I usually come in a few on Saturday to do the inventory dumps into the system…well he was like we still have to do the dumps in both systems…it was obvious he really wanted me to work but really didn’t want to ask me…so a volunteered…ah well he’s right…but I hate to admit it…
Cashed the paycheck, gassed the car, did my shopping, and some over do household chores…have been staring at the same pile of dishes in the sink for longer then I will admit…and said tonight I must do them…cut myself in the process in an awkward spot…on the base of my right pinky finger…dang I never thought I’d get it to stop bleeding…not a bad cut… just in a bad spot…need to write checks but nothing that can’t wait until the ‘morrow or even next week…and I’m kind of “blow out” tonight…

This day with the closing of month end, and having to catch up all the data in both systems…I had fallen way behind on orders…so stayed over and got almost caught up to the minute…but am exhausted tonight…and the mind is non-functional…

I really must re-evaluate my take out food tactics…I stopped at the deep fry fish place tonight…got a ½ pound of deep fried haddock…12 ozs. of fries and a ½ pound of slaw, and a large can of orange aid for about what a burger and fries with a diet and a side would cost me at a fast food place…why do I stop for fast food when not-quite so fast food is better and really doesn’t take that much longer…and is as cost effective as the inferior “slop”.

Tonight was worship team practice which I skipped for the first time in months…voice was rocky and was just too tired to contemplate going back out…slept lousy last night…work today was the pits and that’s all I’ll say…

Dang what a day, I got a visit this morning from the mechanic from the vendor we use for forklift repair and maintenance. Finally got management permission for a new set of tires and a bunch of upgrades and standard maintenance to the warehouse lift…this sucker is a ‘74 or ‘75 era lift with literally 1000’s of hours on it…still is mechanically sound but needs new rubber and some work on the horn and backup alarm…now this will basically take it out of service for an entire day…so I checked with everyone and nothing was scheduled for Wednesday, and as the mechanic had to schedule some sub-vendors to assist…we set the day…I told everyone , ok it’s Wednesday…don’t schedule anything from the warehouse that needs the lift for that day. A brief note, as we only have 3 lifts…it is not cost effective to have a certified forklift mechanic on staff (OSHA requires all work on a lift be done by a certified mechanic)…better from many angles to outsource it. So like three hours later I get a call from customer service/marketing…the trucking company wants to pickup the Nogales load Wednesday…hold the phone we already decided we were going to not ship from the house Wednesday…yeah I now that a full load to Nogales this time of year is a hard thing to find but just who’s the customer here…she didn’t even say to them we can’t so it that day can you reschedule for another day…she drives me nuts… if a customer or vendor wants to change a plan or a ship day she just folds…never considers that I have made other plans…even when she knows I have…so I’m trying to re-schedule for Thursday…hope that works and if she tries to move something in on top of me again there is going to be hell to pay…the hardest thing about what I do is that everyone thinks all I have to do in a given day is what they as an individual needs me to do…well about a hour after that I got a very ill worded and very insulting memo from the foundation ( well it would be if I could be insulted which I can’t but it did p*ss me off) about why I hadn’t processed their overseas sample requests…they live in a vacuum…no idea of my work load or how busy we’ve been…I called the executive assistant, hey look I’ve tried 3 different times over the last week and a half to get to these things…about an hours work…and every time I’ve tried I got interrupted by something that needed to be done right now…I think I will be able to get the hour I need today…which I did…and then went up and they had sent another request over… now if the dang things are so important…why didn’t she mention there was another one in the pipe line…and 95% of these samples they send result in nothing…squat…zilch…nodda…as far as orders…dang!!!!!!!!!!
Got behind…caught up except I had a transfer that needed to be unloaded and then reloaded at the warehouse…and left work an hour late…in a foul mood…chores can wait for another day…and as I had taken an early lunch and was too hungry to wait until I had time to cook and in no mood to accomplish said cooking got take out…which amounts to 40% of the meals I’ve eaten in the last week…weeks go by without me ever getting takeout…but lately…oh double dang…

Day two of the current cold…and something happened today that has rarely happened to me in almost 53 years of singing in public…first service and warm-ups before voice was fine…a little rusty up high, but no problem on the lower harmony lines…got through teaching adult Christian Ed. Class and voice was fine in second service to a point…we got to the last chorus of the last song and voice just…well…quit…I tried to sing and all I got was a coughing fit…dang…in 53 years of singing…I have never had that happen during a service or a performance…rehearsals maybe…and I few times I have passed on the performance/service because there just wasn’t any “voice” there…fortunately it was a group deal…and I am a harmony singer…one might call me a “backup” singer…so no big deal…but it is humbling…
Anyhow the N-lady did a solo in service…actually both services to day…we’re buds…she’s been singing with the team for over a year now…nice voice…a bit of a country twang…but I forgive her for that (hehe)…but has never done a solo before…4 kids and in her early 40’s but has never sung alone in public before…she started out in first service a little timid…breathed a quick pray for that sweet lady…but as she got into the music she did fine…better then fine…but I took her aside between services and told her a secret…I’ve been singing in public since 5 years old…and despite the fact that after all that time you would think that I had conquered any nervousness or “stage fright”…well think again…when I sing with the local classical choral society I pace for an hour before a concert trying to get my nerviness and maybe anticipation in check…once the music starts…once I hit that first high note…or “nail” the first hard “run”…I’m fine…but that feeling before hand…I always have…and the few times I haven’t…lord have I made a mess of it…that pre-performance jitters is just part of the deal…and you learn to live with it and do the thing regardless…
Have veggied out the rest of the day…just haven’t been hungry today…I guess it belittles the old wives tale about “feed a cold and stave a fever”…because I have had no taste for food today…a late lunch of coffee and a salad…and coffee and a jumbo English muffin with peanut butter and orange marmalade for supper…
Peanut butter is one of those weird things that you never leave childhood with…almost everyone I know that still eats that childhood staple almost invariably buys and consumes the same brand their mom bought for them as a child…
