(+53*F....rain)
(Now Playing: "Sink the Bismarck" (link))
It's been raining most of the day, it's predicted to be clear over night but beginning again tomorrow morning, and then rain through Saturday....ergo....I'll be in my rooms for the next couple of days....dry and warm....and very glad that tonight is Halloween....not that i pay any attention to it....haven'f for years....but I'm glad because many of the channels I watch on television have been airing nothing for the last few weeks but horror movies, and assorted monster films....dang even the Food Network has been airing Halloween related programming....and since for the next few days I will be forced indoors by the weather....the change comes in the nick-o-time....
Although I'm in the process of moving....it's all under the same roof....literally....just from one building to another....and I have a month plus help too accomplish it....however on Sunday and until Spring you may notice that instead of "UTC-4".....on the time line I always post....it will be replace by "UTC-5"....the USA uses what is called "Daylight Savings Time".....we Spring forward....set the clocks an hour ahead....and then Fall back....and turn them back an hour....giving long daylight hours in the evening in summer....so I haven't moved but maybe 80 feet....not to a new time zone....I did some research before deciding to use that method....but it was easier then posting my time as EST (Eastern Standard Time) normally....and then EDST (Eastern Daylight Savings Time) when the clocks were set ahead for Summer....besides most of my readers don't reside in North America....and so UTC is more recognizable....

(+38*F....clear)
(Now Playing: "King Arthur" (link)
It's been a wild, crazy and very busy day....according to the weather forecast this was the only day with out rain for a week....rained Sunday and Monday....and will do so as well from tomorrow through until Saturday....so today was a day for making sure I had supplies and a full pantry and frig for the next few days....
Awoke around 6 AM local time, and got busy checking and making lists....and of course a little internet....around 9 AM housekeeping came in to do the weekly cleaning and change of linens....I had a few things to take care of on two of the games I play and made the first of my shopping trips around 10:30 AM....local time....got back....a little more internet....about 1 PM it finally dawned on me that I hadn't eaten anything all day....had a meal and went out again to another market....opposite direction of the first walk....and have been in the rest of the day....with the early wake up time....and the busy day I shall do my best to turn in early tonight....

(Now Playing: WCNY-FM (link)
Although WCNY-FM is out of Syracuse NY....which is about 80 miles below where I live, and they also have a translator....WJNY-FM....here in Watertown....they also have a online presence....and that's the source I'm listening to as I write here this afternoon....
Been raining on and off the whole day, it's predicted to end just about 6 PM local time...but by then it will already be dark and although I will walk after dark....probably won't tonight as the forecast for tomorrow is no rain....but rain the three days following....so probably take advantage of that....so have spent the day in my rooms....a little TV but a whole lot of the internet....a little surfing the net but mostly games and posting and replying on Facebook....

(+40*F....cloudy)
(Now Playing: "Hornblower" "The Frogs and the Lobsters"(link))
It's rain most of the day, and is predicted to start again very soon and rain through 20:00 tomorrow local time....so I took a quick walk to Aldi to pick up a few things....when I looked out this morning it was indeed raining....but there was evidence on the ground that we had had a dusting of snow over night....it's not uncommon for us to see the first snowfall in late October....but....I remember one Halloween when my daughter was a kid....(she'll be 41 this December)....they had to trudge through a foot of snow "Trick or Treating".....as I said not uncommon but....still an event I don't look forward to....
Although I am a Christian....family has been back 3 or 4 generations....in fact my college education was in part in the field of biblical studies....from a very conservative Baptist college....but being that my roots are in Europe, primarily the Rhineland and East Prussia....if you look back beyond the 3 and 4 generation many of the names of my forebears are Ashkenazim.....and in fact the religion was not passed down....but certain Yiddish words were and were quite commonly used in family conversation....In fact my forbears on my dad's side came from what was then the East Prussian city of Danzig...it's now the Polish city of Gdansk....so my genetic origins are mixed at best....but I don't seem to have what might be called a western mind set....I don't think in either/or....but in both/and....and most times find my answers to something in the middle of the two opposing points of view....when liberals call my point of view too conservative....and conservatives on the same issue think I'm too liberal....I figure I got it just about right....

(+36*F....rain)
(Now Playing: "NCIS" re-run USA network)
It was a dreary, rainy day and if the forecast is correct it will continue raining through Monday morning....but I was aware of the forecast and stocked up Thursday and Friday so there is no need for me to venture out until Monday afternoon or even could wait to Tuesday....
ergo....it's been a very quiet day....got a late start to the day....never surfaced from sleep until just before 8 AM local time....normally I get up between 6 and 7 AM, old habits die hard, but although I I went to bed around 10 PM which is my usual time....just couldn't fall to sleep....and once sleep came slept fitfully with some very  strange dreams....not what I'd call nightmares....just very weird....
My usual quiet day routine....a little TV....a major bunch of internet time....posting on 2 of my blogs, some time on Facebook, and of course time playing many and sundry online games....and finding a few new ones....for someone who grew up before the "information age"....I am an internet junkie....I've been online for 22+ years at this point....and on the 29th of this month this blog will be 16 years "old"....there was a 5 year period that I didn't post anything....just an assortment of reasons....but I'm back now....and being retired have the time to spend as I chose and I chose to do it online...besides I always was a "Library Rat".....and the vast information, avenues for research....I'm like a kid in a candy store....and some times the proverbial "bull in a china shop".....

A brief walk this morning was actually I nice day for a walk but then I prefer the Autumn weather above the weather of the other three seasons....always have....
The hotel I live is in the process of dividing into two separate companies....the first two buildings a regular hotel and the third building a resident/extended stay facility....has to do with tax law in New York State....ergo.... I have to move into the 3rd building....but I have until the end of November to complete the process....and have been promised help with the move....now with my decreased mobility taking a bath is an issue....one of the units has a walk-in shower which would suit me just fine....and as the "senior resident"....both in age and length of time I've resided here....I had first choice of rooms and I claimed that one....plus if my walk will take me west or north it's a tad shorter walk....plus I can re-arrange the layout....subtract and add to the furnishings within reason....so despite the hassle of moving....it's a better deal all the way around....

(+33*....cloudy)
(Now Playing: "NCIS" re-runs on the USA network)
A cold day for Autumn, with wind chills below freezing....nothing requires me to walk today so if I do feel the need to walk....I'll do a little "hall walking"....same as mall walking  only I can do it without leaving the hotel I've lived in for over 7 years....a report on my addiction to Youtube....my subscription count on Youtube has now reached 301....
A year ago today I made a big decision....which spawned a few new choices....and because all of the above my health is the best it's been in years....on this date last year was my first sober day in several years....I woke up to two empty bottle (vodka & bourbon)....first thought to take a walk and re-supply....second though "What the .... am I doing"....and I just quit....and yes had a physically nasty next three days....haven't had a drink since....have dreamed about drinking a couple of times but that doesn't count....after that I re-evaluated my diet....gone is my visits to a local diner, and "delivery"....and enter....more fresh fruit and raw veggies....more nuts and seeds....and meat as a flavoring not as the main component....my weight has dropped....and whether the diet or from the weight loss....my knees and feet have been much better....still the occasional soft off key dirge....but not as bad as it was....there were times that I needed two canes to get around....now I only use a cane when I'm out....I still have some balance issues....and besides I love "sporting" a cane....and after my last visit to the Doc's.....he said if things stay as they are he may take me off my meds....and the possibility of getting off the med with diuretic properties will insure that I keep on....keeping on....

(Now Playing: "Pawn Stars" re-runs on the History network)
I'm caught on the horns of a dilemma....starting at 16:00 local time...on three different channels....the following re-runs of three of my favorite TV series are playing...."Tree House Masters"...."Pawn Stars".....&...."Mythbusters"....I may do some channel surfing or I may just decided to watch just one of them....but this is one of my pet peeves....either there is nothing to watch....or there's several things I want to watch....all on at the same time....
Other then a quick trip to the ATM to visit my money....problem is that some of them always insist on coming home with me....and the bad part of that is they always seem to disappear never to be seen again....

(+44+F....cloudy)
(Now Playing: "Gaudy Night" (link)
It's rained on and off most of the day, but walked early, just a few things, but mainly to get a new cutting board....the old one which I've had for several years was getting pretty worn out....so decided it was time to replace it....and then intended to stay in the rest of the day....and play some of the online games that I play....I had logged in to both the poker and blackjack games I play, both "free" games....play is with game money, faux money....had logged on to both about 11:30 local time....and went back to play around 13:30 local and couldn't get them to load (sister games by the same provider)....this happened back a few months ago, to the poker game (before they introduced blackjack) apparently a server problem....on the other hand I've had games crash and come back, and also crash and never to be heard from again....but it does frustrate me to a greater or less degree based solely on the amount of time I've spent to improve my position in the game....I tend to be a very competitive person....and some would say that, that is an understatement....anyways....the rain stopped and I needed to get out for awhile and came up with some very sound excuses to "take a hike"....did need a few things for the pantry....but could have waited a day or two or even to the weekend....on the other I have always live by the motto...."Never do today what you can put of indefinitely"....but if you can't...."The Just Do it....NOW!!....besides if I don't do things when I think about them, more often they don't get done at all....it's not exactly that I have become forgetful with age but rather I have become and to some extent always have been bothered by distractions....I hate it when I'm interrupted in the middle of a task...even when i was working I'd be doing something and get interrupted....and when i finished taking care of what ever problem someone thought needed my immediate attention for....I would often stand there with a "Where Was I ?....What Was I Doing ?....And WHY!!....I carried a small cassette recorder....and would record things when I thought of them....but could take care of them at that precise moment....sometimes I used to and occasionally still feel like a juggler with too many balls in the air....I also went through post-it notes by the 100's....and now before this becomes a novella I will bid you good day....

(+41*F....rain showers)
(Now Playing" "NCIS" re-runs on the USA network)
Was basically out of fresh fruit and veggies....and knew it might rain so wore my rain parka....and it did start to mist on my way back....a stop at Aldi....and a stop at Dollar General for a bottle of juice and some dry skin lotion....colder weather always gives me an issue with dry skin....
Now when I'm at Aldi....I always see what nice cheeses they have....a nice assortment at fair prices....now I love me some good cheese....I'm not talking here about those wrapped slices of processed cheese....but the good quality types....I've tried almost every kind of cow and sheep's milk cheese I can find, but never have had goat's milk cheese....partially because of price....but mostly because it's a "soft" cheese and I prefer "hard" cheeses....but Aldi had a 4 oz. piece for 2$....about 1/2 of the price for the size else where....decided to try some....got one that was flavored with garlic and herbs....Just had my mid-day "scramble"....potatoes, the afore mentioned cheese and liquid egg white....and it was wonderful....and for those who have seen my running comments on my "scrambles" I have decided my quandary between the liquid eggs or just the liquid whites....and the winner is the liquid whites....also that the liquid whites and the goat cheese is a great match....

I don't think the temperature got out of the 30s all day, and with winds in excess of 10 mph....It must have been quite brisk....I said that because with no reason to walk...everything I needed for the next few days, I either had or picked up yesterday....now if I really needed something I know how to dress for this and much colder weather....but figured my best course of action was just to stay warm in my rooms....
Have been in search of another solitaire type game to play....have tried several and think I may have found one based on Mahjong ( know that one surprises me....spell check didn't recognize it...and it's not even Yiddish)....every so often I get bored with particular game I played a lot of and just quit playing it....

(Now Playing: "My Mix" (link)
The mix I'm playing to night is very eclectic....pieces from all off my favorite pieces and styles of music....Took a walk this morning....but at the time the forecast was for rain tomorrow, and clear Monday but just looked and the new forecast predicts no rain tomorrow but rain from Monday thru Wednesday....so will have to do an inventory of what I need for the those 3 days and maybe head back out tomorrow....
Spent sometimes doing some adjustments and changes to my poetry blog "Troll's Poetry Corner".....added somethings and fiddled with the layout and appearance....have been thinking that this blog is overdue for a change but haven't really figured out what direction to take....content will basically remain the same....but maybe just change the layout a little.....
Still working on the collecting of some of my favorite books and will probably add a listing with links to PDF files here....

When I walked around 9 AM local time the weather was quite brisk....but has turned into a gentle Autumn day....just a few things I needed from Aldi....and have spent the rest of the day online....the usual checking emails, Facebook, and some online gaming....also I am searching the web for PDF files of some of my favorite books and/or those that had an impact on how I've lived my life....My eye sight is not what it once was and I like being able to increase the magnification of the pages I'm reading or for that matter writing....as I write this post I have magnification of my word processor turned up to 150%....It is my intent to eventually post links to my "library" here....haven't decided whether to put them in a sidebar....the footer....or possibly add a "page" and put a link to it here....
I'm having a problem deciding what to do about Facebook....My "timeline" is full of puns, play on words and some off-beat humor....and most of my friends know this and either "tag" me to something they've found that I might like....or "message me with a link"....one just posts them to my "timeline" and most of the time it's something I won't want on my page....up to now I've just deleted it and hoped they'd take the hint....problem is we are related....I do have 3 options....saying some to this person....block the person's posting on my timeline....or blocking everybody from posting....doesn't affect comments....just new posts....can't decided but I think the direct approach my cause a dispute....oy vey....
I've been using liquid eggs for a scramble....actually more a rustic frittata, for one of my daily meals....also available are just the egg white in liquid form....can't decide which I like better and lack of space in the frig dictates I decide....(The Madtrollie can be seen flipping the proverbial coin....dang....it landed on edge....)....

When I checked the current weather here at around 7 AM local time the temperature was +29*F....by the time I walked in the afternoon the temperature was +40*F but the "feels like" because of a brisk wind was listed as it is right now....+32*F....now while it's true it's going to get much cold as we head for late Autumn and Winter....that first day near the freezing mark +32*F (0*C) is a shocker....but I've lived my whole life except for nine semesters when I was in college...where below zero temperatures Fahrenheit are common so I know how to dress for that condition....( have added a link on the left under "useful links" to a Fahrenheit to Celsius Converter)

Now walk today as of yet....but may walk later....ran is predicted to stop....overnight low is predicted in the high 20s F....really haven't had a hard frost so far so that should do it....the weather has definitely taken a turn to colder weather....
Just have chilled out today....just some surfing of the net, some online gaming, and have been doing some re-range and editing on one my other blogs....it's the newer of my 3 blogs that I maintain currently....have more in the past....but this blog is the oldest and the first one I started back in October of 2002....has gone thru multiple changes....and probably will go through changes again but not today....(knock wood)

Have changed my meal schedule....a little 1st meal....a buttered bagel, a piece of fruit, a glass of juice....and either some radishes or green onion....usually around 9-10 Am local time....2nd meal a little afternoon....a scramble liquid egg, potato, and what every else I feel like....rest of the day a glass of veggie juice w/ spices....a salad of raw veg....and maybe a pre-prepared meal....I eat 4 to 6 times a day but small potions....I never eat snacks from the bag....always a small amount in a small bowl....may weight is don't....and I'm health is better then it's been in years....

I must be losing my touch....I actually believed the weather forecast this afternoon....when I walked this morning I went out with my best rain/wind breaker on....didn't rain but I would have been prepared....would have gone both places on the first walk but in opposite directions....so checked the weather and the radar and it looked clear....only wore my vest style windbreaker....yup it poured....fortunate I was in the store during the worst of it....but the wind was blowing hard....and I did get wet....but not soaked....but I will do something that I'll probably hate myself in the morning for....I'm going to give the weatherman a break....living about 20 miles "as the crow flies" from the east end of Lake Ontario (one of the 5 Great lakes between the US and Canada).....the weather up here can change in a matter of minutes....there's an old adage up here...."If you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes....it probably will change...."....the fault here was mine....worst of all I grabbed my better rain/windbreaker and decided that I won't need it....oy vey....my fault....
Those who follow this slag heap that I call my blog will know of my discovery of and playing around with making crazy scrambles from liquid egg....but bought today a pint of just the egg whites....I know it's a big health thing now....now I am concerned about my health....but  my foremost concern when it comes to food is does it taste good....and on the basis of the latter, I may consider at least using both....for different reasons, and different applications....

Originally it had not been my intent to walk today, nothing that couldn't wait until tomorrow....then I looked at the forecast for tomorrow....rain or chance of rain for all of the day light hours tomorrow....so 1 did need to pick up a few things before Tuesday so walked today....with my shopping list in my pocket....more often then not I make a list, and then leave it in my rooms....what I forgot this time was to add an item that I thought about after I made the list....oy vey....not critical but it irritates me when I do something like that....it's not old age creeping up on me....I've always been that way....
Every so often on Facebook you get a "friend request" from a person who's name I don't recognize....but I never deny out of hand....I always check their page before I decide....might be a friend of a friend....or someone I only know by a nickname....more often then not it's "some sweet young thing"....with no friends....and in some provocative pose, one awhile back was in bra and panties....refuse....click....mark as spam....click....but today's request this girl wasn't fooling around....I take that back....in the pics she was definitely "fooling around".....refuse....'click'....report as spam....'click'....and I'm looking for a button that says....report as porn....good golly Miss Molly....and several oy vey(s)....they say they are trying to clean up Facebook from spam et al....(The Madtrollie can be seen muttering to himself as he wanders off)

Have had an interesting day so far....I live on the north side of one of the busiest streets in this small city....the city calls it Arsenal St....but it's also State route 3....a major exit and entrance to the city....and I live right on the edge of the retail shopping area....both of the grocery stores are on the south side of the street so I have to cross it....now the city speed limit is 30 MPH....one of the problems is that the vast majority of drives see that 30 MPH limit not a limit but a suggestion that they chose to ignore....I always cross at a traffic light, in the designated crosswalk, and only on the walk light....problem is at one the right hand turn arrow comes on about a second after the walk light and that traffic must pass through the cross walk....the other similar problem, except it's a left turn....problem is too many drivers don't pay attention, and are either aware of, oh in their haste choose to ignore....that under New York State traffic law....if I cross in a designated cross walk on the walk light, I have the right of way....I get about a 1/3 of the way across the street and there a car about ten feet away from me....glaring at me....I was almost a hood ornament on a BMW....not the first time a similar event has occurred....actually hardly a week goes by....but oy gavalt....

Some may refer to today's weather with a series of negatives but I found it quite pleasant on my walk earlier....and as I walked to the west there was just one end of a very faint rainbow....had rained over night....just a few stops.....only worth mention is some new underwear shirts....tank tops....with the weather soon to be quite cold....the best defense is multiple layers of clothing....I have found by many years of wintering in a climate where the most common extreme is cold winters....with temperatures often below 0*F....coldest temperature I remember was -55*F....that multiple light layers are better against the cold than I thick layer....hence the purchase of some nice new shirts....I've lost a fair amount of weight....and the old ones (size X-large) were too loose....new ones are a size smaller (large)....(have added a link to a comparison chart of US sizes and other countries sizes....under "useful links"....on the left side bar) Spent sometime this afternoon, sorting through my clothes....putting the summer ones away and checking the condition of the cold weather ones....there maybe one or two things I will add....

(Now Playing: "NCIS" re-runs on the USA network)
No classical music playing today....I do have another side....I liked the early "NCIS" episodes with Kate....liked it even better with Zeva....but once she left the show was a mix bag....never got the Eleanor character....but there were some decent episodes....but once the Tony character was written out....well put it bluntly....I don't watch the new ones....at all
Tried something different with the morning scramble this morning....I've been getting a bag that's an assortment of small mixed variety potatoes....sliced on very thin on the bottom of the microwave dish I use...."nuked 'um" for a minute after a dash of salt and a couple of turns of fresh ground pepper....then added some crumbled chorizo, and then a pour of liquid egg...."nuked" the result for a minute 45 seconds....( oops...."nuked" slang for cooked in a microwave oven....) anyways....nice scramble....with a buttered bagel, a banana, and a glass of juice....a very enjoyable first meal....since I ate about 11:00 AM local time can't call it breakfast....and I hate the term brunch....besides since I eat 4 to 5 small meals a day....the normal breakfast, lunch, and dinner labels just don't seem to fit....

Now anyone who knows me, knows I'm not a morning person, and today was no exception, if any thing it was worse then usual....just couldn't get the old body going....logged on the internet...for my morning routine....check email, start the days play on the free games I play online, see what alerts I have on Facebook....I read and post to a group on Facebook for "boomers".....( I know from my hit stats that a majority of my readers are not from the USA or Canada so...."boomers" are a term used in the USA and Canada to refer to the generation that was born between 1/1/46 and 12/31/64)....Most of the posts are about growing up in the 50's and 60's.....a total different age both culturally, social, political, and technology was....well....there wasn't very much and what was, was in it's infancy....I was maybe 9 or 10 when we got our first TV....black and white....small....and 3 channels....So this morning I posted two pictures from the period, one was of the "Burma Shave" road signs that were along rural roads, and another picture of a rural barn painted with an advertisement....checked my alerts and got a notice that I had violated Facebook's spam protocols and my post had been removed....the barn picture....so I followed the procedure and checked "not spam"....they review....and allowed it and put it back up....and asked me what I thought about the procedure....I pick the middle icon....got a why....I responded with that I was confused considering the group's content....I would or my should have said "I'm farmisht"....but didn't....probably would of  been sent to Facebook jail for foul language....
Not done yet....had planned a trip to Aldi's....on my walk my way was blocked by a construction crew that had parked their vehicle on the sidewalk....my only option was the street....maybe the busiest one in the small city I live in....so I got what I needed....on the way back...my sweat pants were riding down a little so tugged them up....reached for the strings to tighten them....no strings....it's then that I realized I had put my sweat pants on backwards....oy vey....like I said I'm not a morning person....

Although music has never been my vocation, it has been one of my avocations from a very early age....and my background is definitely classical....piano lessons as a child from a teacher who taught from the masters....took lessons on the French horn starting in 7th grade and played in a school band that played several classical pieces transcribed for concert band....and that's just the instrumental side....I have no idea why, but I hear melody....and I just can pick a harmony part, sometimes several, from a child....and was gifted with a strong high tenor voice....and very good pitch....have sang with several amateur choirs and choral groups....I love liturgical music, and the choral works of the Baroque and early classical period....and although age as diminished my physical skills....it is still my music of choice....thence the daily links are mostly classical....
Got an early start to the day, awoke at a little after 5 AM local time....needed a few things from a local 24/7 grocery store....some sausage....ended up with a very good imported chorizo (dang I hate it when I know I've spelled the word right and spellcheck gives me the dreaded red underline....another foreign word added to the dictionary)....and a nice wedge of blue cheese, looked at the in-store bakery goods....but was too early....there's always another day....some of the chorizo ended up in my morning scramble....with just a sprinkle of adobo spice mix (dang another add to the dictionary)....the blogging software I use allows you to add words to the built-in dictionary....mine now contains among other adds: Latin, Yiddish, Spanish, and slang....

Just got back from the Doc's, clean bill of health, or as least as clean as possible for a grumpy, gimpy, old codger of 70 years young....been thinking of maybe spending some time in the gym....there's one close by....5$ down &10$/month....no commitment....and winter is coming....and I was a gym rat when I was younger....and still a few pounds I'd like to lose....
Because of the morning visit to the Doc's haven't logged in to either of my online games....and haven't yet....on the way back from the Doc's, and as I was walking past Aldi's decided to pop in and get some green onions & salad dressing....but they had apple fritters, and New York style cheese cake....and both looked lonely so I had to "adopt" them....I'll give them a good home....

   Been in all day....could of walked....but just didn't feel like it....spent the day mostly on line....and just kicking back....have a doc's appointment....nothing special....just a routine 6 month checkup....but you never know....but I'm feeling good....
Basically all that's on today other then S.V.U. is the NFL...never have been a huge fan....and lately I have lost what little interest that I once had....rather surf the web....

A bright, sunny Autumn day here....don't need to walk today for the reason of getting something I need but may find a excuse to walk anyways....definitely my kind of weather....had a scramble for first meal....but rather then using butter to grease the dish, used olive oil....works a tad better but I miss the flavor of the butter....probably will start using a combination of both....oops....the history of my scrambles using liquid egg can be seen in earlier posts....
To update the progress of The Madtrollie vs. the ants....a couple of days ago escalated the conflict with ant traps....the worst spot was my chip drawer....cleared a spot and put a trap in the drawer....and removed the bags they had invaded....the rest were tightly sealed with bag clips....so the first two days it looked like the ant equivalent of a rave or a flash mob....not rightly sure which not being an ant....this morning nada....save the bodies of some ants that have gone to the great anthill in the sky....I'm not declaring total victory yet....but hopeful....

Actually a nice Autumn day....but don't have anything that demands a walk....could pick up a few things for stock....but it can wait to until tomorrow or even Saturday....
One of the perks of living in a hotel is that I have access to a free breakfast....normally I get some sausage or a boiled egg or two....but usually take it back to my room and eat it later....the food is only available from 6 am to 9 am....and frankly I can't look food in the face as it were until at least 10 am....never really have been able to....but recently I've been making a rustic scramble with the liquid egg I've become very fond of....but this morning on the menu was hot, thick sliced ham....took back to my rooms....cut some thin slices of the ham, with some onion, a good extra sharp cheddar cheese, some butter, celery salt, fresh cracked pepper, and a dash of garlic powder, and of course the liquid egg....and 1 minute & 40 seconds in the microwave....best scramble so far....
Plan for the day is to binge watch/listen to the reruns of NCIS....and surf the web....I know a passe term....but I've been online since '96....and my first connection to the internet was dial up....on a desktop with a 3.1 gig hard drive and 24 megs of ram....my first blog post was 10/29/02....although there was a gap for about 5 years when I didn't post....

I've been recently engaged in mortal combat between myself and a hoard of tiny ants....I've heard them called, sugar ants, cotton ants, grease ants, but the one maintenance guy calls them piss ants....tiny little guys....but they bite....now the staff has sprayed outside against the outer walls, but there must be an internal source....in the darkness a queen lurks....up until now I've employed a physical approach to the issue....crushing them with whatever is available....I've been winning the battles but the war rages on....every morning more re-enforcement arrive....so I was determined to escalate the conflict....so on my morning walk I bought some ant traps....which if they function as advertised....the workers will carry some of the bait back to the queen and the queen dies....well we will see....and in the meantime continue my direct assault on the workers....
There was a brief break in the weather yesterday....I was out of liquid egg, and had decided to pickle some garlic....but need garlic and a bottle of distilled white vinegar....so a quick dash to Aldi's and yes I did wear my rain gear....I had forgotten what a pain in the butt pealing garlic can be....especially with nice tight heads of garlic....but than they are the best for pickling....although I used only a small amount of the vinegar....some pickled onion and cucumber may still be in the offing....
Now in the past, I've tried to keep on hand a store bought breakfast bowl....just in case I sleep past breakfast....and had one in the freezer....for a week or two and decided to use it rather then open the fresh pint of liquid egg....and free up some space....I have very limited freezer space....to my dismay the fresh made scrambles with the liquid egg have spoiled me....didn't even finish the whole bowl....

About 21:30 last night it dawned on me that I hadn't posted to the slag heap I call my blog....took a look at my desktop....and then at my bed....and then turned off the lights and went to bed....first time in quite a while I haven't posted here....did post to "Trollie's Game Room"....and it wasn't because I didn't have anything to say, I've posted here when I have really had nothing that needed to be said and posted anyways....
(a brief pause while I claim some free game credits on Blackjack 21)
The forecast for the whole day is intermittent rain, relative humidity at or near 100%, and temps in the mid-50s....in fact except for a couple of days, tomorrow being one of them....the forecast for the next two weeks looks pretty much like today's except a little warmer....but then if you've ever read this blog before, you are aware of my low esteem for the long term forecasts....or as an old farmer I knew years ago was fond to remark "weathermen are the only people that get paid for being right only 25% of the time"
(another brief pause while I claim some free game credits this time on a free Poker site where I play....drops happen every couple of hours....and no I don't get up during the night to take the drops....well unless I'm awake....)
This is the time of year I start building up my pantry in anticipation of the approach of winter....I live in one of the "lake effect snow zones" in the USA, and because I also live near Canada....if the jet stream is in the right place (or in the wrong place depending on where you are at the time) we can get weather off Hudson Bay....for example I remember a day about 45 years ago, temperature was -55*F.....50 to 55 MPH winds....and a wind chill in excess of -100*F....and then in 1977 we got over 170 inches of snow in 8 days and about 280 inches of snow that winter....and being a gimpy, grouchy, old man....who can't always get out, or just won't get out in either of those extremes....I need a full pantry....and although the above examples are the extreme....we usually get a lot of snow, and -25*F with a wind chill around -40*F is not uncommon in winter....and all of that length prelude to that fact that next time I get out and about I'm going to get the supplies to cold pickle some garlic and perhaps make some cold dill pickles....
(dang....first novella in a long time....must check what it's done to my layout....good excuse to fiddle with it)
