We got quite a bit more snow than predicted..a little over a foot but with the high winds the streets in town were a mess..I was pleasantly surprised that the sidewalks and parking lots were well cleared at least to the east and my trip to Aldi this afternoon..didn't make a shopping list..which doesn't always work anyways because more often than not I forget the dang thing..I only needed four things..bananas..liquid egg whites..and fruit flavored sparkling water..and remember I was almost out of feta cheese..wouldn't have been om the list if I had made one..got  back to my rooms and realized I forgot one thing I thought I'd  remember..hummus..oy vey..
Tomorrow I'll head west to the convenience store and maybe Price Chopper..took a look west and the sidewalks were a mess..so another day..??..but since both stops are 24/7 stores and it's Sunday tomorrow the traffic on Arsenal Street should be light..usually is so if I have to "hit the street" to avoid a impassible section of sidewalk I'll be reasonably safe in the street..with the problems with my knees and feet..and add to the equation my balance issues..slugging through deep, rutted snow is not something I chose to do..
Have spent the rest of the day as I usual do..although we have a couple of new mods on "The Farthest Side"..none of the crew is on as early as I..usual N are resident Aussie is but he and his Mrs. are on a cruise around New Zealand and is not on as much as /usual..I vetted near 60 new member request before 06:00 my time..and the usual poker, poker slots, spades and 11 different solitaire games..adding new videos to my ever expanding playlists..and have already posted everything to "Trollie's Game Room" except "day's end" reports..all of which I do to keep my mind active and sharp..I see in my future..the details of buttoning up "day end" and a sandwich..ergo..Good Day to you all....

Well things didn't work out quite the way the weatherman predicted..we got at least a foot of snow..maybe more..but it's hard to tell with the wind at times over 30 mph..and even now they are in excess of 20 mph..there are places you can see the grass and in others there are drifts at least four feet high and several feet wide..the blizzard warning had been reduced to a lake effect snow warning..and earlier today the Watertown Police Department issued a ban on all unnecessary travel within the city..poor visibility and apparently the plows couldn't keep up with the snow..overnight the west winds over Lake Ontario were blowing from the west and the bulk of the snow went below us..but it than shifted to the west/south/west..when we get snow from that direction it puts Watertown NY were I live dead center in the "bull's eye"..seen it many times before..on the other hand although below freezing both Saturday and Sunday forecasts for Monday and Tuesday are for mid-40s and rain..at that point this mess will just be a memory..
Never had any intention of walking today anyways so the mess didn't really directly affect  me in any way..and brother I'm I glad that because of  my living arrangements I don't have to shovel and or deal with the removal of the snow in any way..
Just a very typical day..and things still to button up for the night..so..nite all....

I probably have quite a different definition of Pop Music then  some others but then you have to know that I entered the 7th grade in 1960..and got my bachelor's degree in 1970..so what I see as Pop Music..Rock & Roll if you will is from a era quite different then some others..
We have gotten very light snow..no more the 3 or 4 inches..but the snow isn't the whole problem..we've had winds around 30 mph and higher gusts..so there are spots you can see the grass and places were there are drifts nearly 3 feet high..add to that that at times the visibility is under maybe 50 yards..so driving thru this "mess" must be difficult..for multiple reasons I don't drive any longer but I still remember driving in similar storms and situations..no fun atall..obviously I neither had or have any intention of walking under those conditions..I have balance issues because of my essential tremors and high winds are flat dangerous for me..awhile back at gust hit me and spun me around and if I hadn't had my cane I would have taken a tumble in the middle of one of the busier streets in the small city I live in..now I was in the designated walk lane and with the walk light but  with the increase occurrences of distracted drives because of the use of "smart phones"..??..since then if the wind is more that 15 mph..I don't walk..I maybe crazy..check that I am crazy..but not stupid..
Have had a busy day online.."The Farthest Side" has had a large number of new member request and one of our number is on vacation..so the individual load has been a bit higher..It's about  that time where I getting ready to shut it down for the night so will bid you Good-Day,,

I have not guess one as to what's going on with the weather forecast..except for some drizzle we've got nothing today..now they've up-graded the alert to a Blizzard Warning..2 to 4 feet of snow up on The Tug Hill Plateau..and winds of 50 mph..and in our area maybe a foot of snow..I guess that the wind direction is changing and they keep trying to guess what come next..when I worked inventory at the plant years ago..spent 30 some odd years on the inventory crew..first as a counter and later as the supervisor of the count and all of the inventory corrections ..when we had something that there was no way to get an accurate count on..we'd make an estimate..and to the right of the count we'd write "swag" which stood for "scientific wild ass guess"..and I would suggest to the weathermen that they include a "swag" at the end of all of their future forecasts..
Now I don't drink ever much carbonated beverages..what growing up in western NY we called pop..but when in college the NYC/Jersey kids called it soda..but I enjoy it once in awhile..either Cherry Coke or Doctor Pepper..in 7.5 oz cans..always get them at Dollar General and I was just about out..so the short cut was passable..barely..but stopped at Ollie's first just to look..ended up with a box of thin mints..and while checking out the chips saw a kind I've never seen before cheddar and horseradish flavored chips..got me a bag..now being of at least food wise of german descent horseradish was a staple..in fact my dad's mom had roots hanging in her "mudroom" and would make it fresh if beef was on the menu..any ways..the chips are great..but be warned if you don't "really" like horseradish..they probably should be avoided..
Been a busy day on "The Farthest Side" several new member request and ergo many timelines and likes to go through..and the usual online gaming and tending my flock [aka: my blogs]..I've been blogging since October of 2002..except for a couple of year when for various reasons I didn't have internet access..been online since 1996..before WiFi or even cable access..the old dial-op days..my first PC had a 3.2 gig hard driver and 24 megs of ram..boy things have changed..
before I write a novella I will bid you Good Day..

When I looked at the forecast for the next couple of days this morning..light snow was in the forecast for the next couple of days..and so took a walk this morning..more about that later..but when I  brought up the weather as I always do just before posting here..I was greeted with "Winter Weather Warning" [I've posted it in the footer]..over the next two days starting very early tomorrow morning they are predicting a snowfall for the Tug Hill Plateau of 2 to 3 feet of snow..now that area is a little south and east of where I live and what I can ascertain from the local forecast we may get 4" to 6 " of the snow..but I've lived here quite awhile..and all that has to happen is that the wind direction shifts just a little and we could get more than the 4 to 8 inches predicted..or less for that matter..
Had original planned only to go to Aldi this morning..bananas, naan bread, tomatoes, a wedge of cheese [Asiago]..and sparkling water..but when I crossed Arsenal and took a look I discovered that my short cut to Big Lots was passable..[from the warm weather and rain we got earlier today]..so decided to go there first and get the sparkling water there..while tis' true that it's a bit more expense than Aldi..a different brand..nothing really to chose between them on quality..but Big Lots carries flavors Aldi does not..ergo..got 2 cherry lemonade..a lemonade..and decided to  try a flavor I had once before..ginger lemonade..got the rest of my list at Aldi..but had a nice conversation with one of the managers..her hubby used to be one of the maintenance men at the hotel in which I reside..they're both "good" people as we would have said back in the day..she was in the process of a daily inventory and she commented that she had been on the inventory crew there since she started working there 13 years ago..I had to one up her..I was on the inventory crew where I worked from the time I walked in the door until I left some 35 years later..I can feel her pain..I was good at it but inventory taking is a royal pain in the tuckus..
Got an earlier than /usual start to the day..and the end of day tasks are right around the corner so I will wish yo a Good Day..and exit stage left..

Just awhile ago decided to go up to the lobby to get my traditional afternoon coffee..was sunny and in the mid forties with just a light breeze so rather then take the hallways..threw on my lined flannel shirt and "stomped the yard"..nah..truth be told I walked around the parking lot for awhile [lawns still to icy and snow covered to walk there]..and got my coffee but  returned thru the hallways..I had walk earlier..I went up this AM to give the manager my check for my March rent..and I had mail..monthly statement from the bank on my checking account..which didn't show a deposit for this month..not unusual because I have my SSI check directly deposited in my account..but the deposit day is always the 3rd Tuesday of the month..when the bank is just about or just has run my statement..so sometimes it shows..some times it doesn't..and sometimes it shows two..oy vey..call me paranoid if you will but I was due to withdraw my "10 day walking around money" in the next couple of days anyways so a quick walk up the hill got my money and check the  balance and everything was "right as rain"..deposit came too late to be in the statement..oh..while we're on the topic of paranoia..remember.."It's not paranoia if they're really out to get you"..
I'm not going to be specific about what prompted this line of thought but sometimes I'm appalled by some of the garbage that is allowed to remain on certain sites on the net..friends of my are constantly harassed by the site for political comments that do not agree with the sites' views..and yet they do nothing about the smut/porn that abounds there..oy gavalt..I'm no prude..but I guess I grew up too long ago and still think there are things that should remain or rather should  have remained in backrooms and behind the barn..and in plain brown paper sleeves..not in a public place..for all to see..[end rant]..
Have things still needing my attention so good day to you all....

Another night..another very interrupted sleep..up a hand full of times..and again gave up at around 04:30...on the positive side I had all of my daily on-line activities well in hand..had wanted to walk to Aldi today..and factors being as they are..had an open time slots just after 09:00..now firstly Sunday is the busiest day of the week at Aldi..but if you go just after they open at 09:00 it's not quite as busy..the other benefit is that because it's Sunday..not only is the traffic light on Arsenal St..one of  the busiest in town, and one I have to cross..and since it's Sunday..there is very little traffic on Commercial Park Dr...I've had some very close calls there while crossing Arsenal at that intersection..the left turn light from there..comes on just a couple of seconds after my walk light and the drivers from there tend to be quite distracted..but didn't see but one car and it was turning right..
But later decided to take a trip in the other direction to Price Chopper..just some veg..but this afternoon it was a little warmer than this morning and less wind..It was quite a pleasant walk..and I really like the fact that I didn't have to "bundle up" to resist the cold..
Had a chat with the manager here at the hotel today..at present all I have to cook with are a microwave and a coffee maker..and you might be surprised what you can use a coffee maker for other than coffee..but I've been thinking about getting a small convection oven..there are some things I might like to make from time to time that the microwave would either be unable to make or do a less than acceptable job of it..a personal pizza jumps immediately to mind..and got his okay on the project..problem is how to get one home..the thoughts of me walking back to my rooms with a convection oven under my arm seems  to be a non-starter to me..and both my sibs are presently in  Florida..doubt they come back just for that..either I'll wait for one of their's return..or perhaps order one on-line and get it delivered..
Still things to do before I sleep or rather with the last two nights in mind..try to get some sleep..

I had intended to not walk today..had decided that I'd wait until Sunday or Monday when the warmer weather would hopefully [knock wood] clear my short cuts..but didn't get a good nights sleep last night..never slept more that an hour or two with out awaking for one reason or another..finally gave up and got the day started at 04:30..and had every thing pretty well done by noonish..and was feeling a little "cooped up" and decided to get the things I both needed and wanted at the plaza just to the west of my abode..checked the short cut..no joy..so took the long way around..Ollie's and got two new "bar mops"..i prefer them to kitchen towels for cleaning up messes when I'm preparing my meals..then off to Dollar General..some cookies.."Snicker Doodles"..I thick I might be developing an addiction to them..[2 packages]..a couple bags of chips..and a bottle of Gatorade zero sugar..I actually prefer the Powerade zero sugar but it was out-of-stock..I keep a bottle in the frig and use it to re-hydrate after my walks..and then back to my rooms..
I've mentioned before but I'm a resident of a hotel..and get the amenities there of..now we ain't talking a five star hotel here..more a two star..but as part of my monthly rent..free land line, TV, WiFi, a visit weekly from housekeeping..fresh linens and a cleaned room..and able to partake of the daily breakfast buffet..I among other items always get a yogurt..well yesterday they had pineapple yogurt..now I've never been a huge fan of pineapple..except the dried chucks of that fruit which I have been know to wolf down like candy..so decided to give it ago..and found it quite taste..and again this AM..and probably will continue to select it when available..well except if they have black cherry as well..that would be no contest..
The usual nightly routine lies ahead..and a evening snack as well..which may just include a couple of snicker doodle cookies..some chips..and maybe a sandwich..but the cookies will make an appearance speaking of that it's time I disappeared from here for another day..good day to yous guys..

Although the weather wasn't that bad today..I really had no need to walk..besides..Sunday thru Wednesday next week are all forecast to have mid-40s daytime highs and rain on Wednesday..and I hoping the the warm weather will eliminate what's left of the last of the accumulated snow and my "short cuts" will be passable again..
While checking the 10 day forecast I tumbled to the fact that this is a leap year..if that fact meant anything to me I  would have figured it out myself..it's a simple math problem..take the year: 2020...divide by 4..if the product is an even number..it's a leap year..when Britain changed to the Gregorian calendar in 1752..that was the first one for  the calendar we use here in the USA..although Julius Caesar did use them in the Julian calendar over 2000 years ago..with the same any year evenly divisible by four was a leap year..
I spent a rather atypical day for me..everything went smoothly this morning and I had the bulk of my games, duties on the FB group "The Farthest Side" and the majority of my blog postings..save this one and day's end on "Trollie's Game Room"..so I took the afternoon off..other than a couple of chip drops on two live games I play..just watched some TV and did some mechanical work..I put a rear end [mine] in my recliner..and almost dozed off a couple of times..but I  didn't sleep particularly well last night..and awoke just before 04:30..quite stiff and sore and figured it was a waste of time to roll back over and try to get more sack time..
But the good thing about the early wake up..I got even an earlier start to my day..so may turn in tonight even earlier that /usual..just a few last details to attend to..ergo..good day to you  all..

Despite the fact that the ambient temperature when I walked this late morning was 10* cooler than it was when I walked yesterday..yesterday we had a 14 mph wind out of the west..and although the direction and wind speed has changed since the time I walk..when I did walk the wind was a light breeze of 4 mph..and from the northwest..and except briefly never had to walk directly into the wind..more a quartering wind ..and It actually felt much warmer and was a much more enjoyable walk..I could have waited until tomorrow or even Saturday when it is going to be some warmer..but after living in this area for going on 54 years I'm used to the winter cold..although I don't tolerate it as well as I once did..if either the ambient or windchill temperature is below 0*F I stay in my warm and cozy rooms..just the usually bananas..fruit flavored sparkling water..liquid egg whites..a package of 5 bars of good german dark chocolate..cherry fruit and grain bars..and..well I knew that I was to  the end of the good cheddar cheese I was using..and had forgot to check whether I had already bought the replacement..so I bough another brick of a very nice cheddar..got home and realized I had already bought a brick of aged cheddar..but on the other hand I have been know to have different types of the same cheese open and in use before..actually right now I have a very nice blue Stilton..which I eat as is..and a Amish blue I use in my egg white dishes..so I'm sure I can find uses for both..besides it's my story and I sticking to it..
Besides that today was like any other day..spent most of the day on-line..tending to my three blogs..my responsibilities on the FB group "The Farthest Side"..combing thru Youtube for videos to add to my ever growing number of playlists..not all music..there are a plethora of videos on Military History..battles..for many years I played miniature war games..Napoleonic Wars, ACW, and.. Medieval..just to name a few..I've always felt that you can't really understand history..without the study of military history was well..we tend all too often to settle our disputes with violence..
Still things to accomplish before I take my rest..ergo..good-day to you all [regardless of what time zone you find your-self-in]....

I got in the habit of when I studied  to study with music playing in the background..helped me to zone out the sounds of room mates and dorms..I rarely listen to music when I'm playing games on line..in point of fact if there is background music to the game I always mute it..and most sound effects as well..the only exception is the live poker game I play..I turn the sound off in the "lobby"[aka:start page]..but turn it back on at the table..no music there but the sound effects are helpful to me in game play..but if I'm "surfing the net"..doing research or posting to  my blogs..I find that the music rather than distracting me..helps me concentrate..and because most of my musical background is of the classical/liturgical variety..that is usually what I listen to..I usually do the greater part of my posting to "Trollie's Game Room" before 08:00..and more often than not tend to listen to Gregorian Chant..or some similar type..lately it's the chant of the Templar Knights..I am a Youtube junkie..what an amazing resource..
It was about the same temperature and wind chill this morning..and what we called as a kid.."a high sky"..with just wispy clouds at the horizon..first to Big Lots..2 bottle of cherry/lemonade sparkling water..and two of a flavor they haven't had before..black cherry..now my favorite fruit just happens to be cherries..and then the longest part of the walk was to the convenience store..better part of a 3/8th of a mile..and directly into a 15 mph wind..and I had wished that I had worn a scarf so I  could have covered the lower part of my face..rest of me was warm..thanks to my Carharts..but the face not so much..but the walk back to my rooms was with the wind to my back..and wasn't bad atall..
I got distracted and missed a chip drop earlier..and might stay up a little later tonight to makeup for my dummkopf move..or rather lack of there of..a few things yet to be accomplished..ergo..good  night to you all..

Well the doom and gloom of today's forecast was vastly overstated..did we get a trace of snow..yup..did we get rain..more mist than rain..we did get how some pretty brisk winds..so checked the radar about 15:00..and although the wind was still in the high teens in intensity..not a bad day..
when I had been preparing my mid-day meal I reach for the balsamic vinegar and found very little left in the squeeze bottle..because of my essential tremors I find that went pouring liquids out of a bottle I have a hard time controlling the amount..not a problem with the squeeze bottle..ergo..I transfer all the liquids I use on a regular basis to squeeze bottles..so went to the pantry and found that some dummkopf had forgotten to buy a new bottle when he had emptied the  previous one..and had open the last bottle of dish washing detergent..the other day..so since weather permitting,,off to Ollie's..on items like that they have the best price..provided you aren't looking for a specific brand name..and miraculously got out of Ollie's with just the two items I had been seeking..usually I'll end up with several things I didn't know I needed until I saw them on a shelf and forget one of items I had gone there for in the first place..On my way back to my rooms past The Thrift Store"..and they have a senior/military discount on Tuesday..I often find cooking dishes and storage containers there..but I always walk through the men's clothing section as well..spotted a nice knit shirt that I'm wearing as I compose this post..but I went up to the contour and the clerk asked if I qualified for either of the discounts..now I been told that I don't look as old as my 72+years..but I certainly look older than the 55 year old barrier..so I played along and asked the age level..was told 55..and a laughingly informed her that I qualified 17 years and 2 months ago..but a very nice long sleeved shirt for under 4 bucks..and back to my rooms..
Have spent the day as is my custom on-line..intend to catch a little "Tree-house Masters" re-run on the Animal Planet channel after finishing this post and before I dive into the "day's end routine"..ergo..nite all..

With the weather predicted for tomorrow covering all of the daylight hours..sunset 17:37:34..It seemed reasonable that I check the pantry and do some shopping today..now the major needs were things I buy at Price Chopper..so just after 10:00 headed for that plaza with the intent of also checking out T J Maxx and maybe Dollar Tree..I got a couple of pre-prepared meals..with my 3 day defrosting marathon on all three of my small frigs I had space for 2..things I keep on hand when I'm in a hurry or am to lazy to cook from scratch..got some shallots..and a red cabbage..got the smallest one they had..large than what I would have preferred but I wanted it..and it will kept well in the frig..but I probably should consider adding its' care in my will[hehe]..and wanted some portabello chilies which they didn't have..so got italian peppers..and because I was there some fruit flavored sparkling water [which I usual get at Aldi]..but they didn't carry the brand I wanted..and a wedge of Amish blue cheese..and the sparkling water was one of the items I was lowest on..so change of plans..ditched the idea of T J Maxx and Dollar Tree..and off to Aldi..actual passed my rooms on the way there..except on the other-side of the street..got the sparkling water..some bananas..and some paper plates..and back to the rooms..in spots the sidewalk were less than ideal..and although I often take that walk in the nicer weather I was a tad tuckered out..by the time I got back to my rooms..but I did something very mechanical..I put a rear end in my recliner..and watch some of the Godfather II..

Been an interesting day..because I knew I'd be out for a possible extended I was early..and did a few things different on the free poker game I play to give me some wiggle room on time..and it turned out..it worked out almost the way I had prepared for..I am an admitted control freak..but only where I'm concerned..for many reasons I prefer to live in an organized universe..but also am fully aware that I can't control others or random events..but usually make a plan..and if I have to I usually come up with an alternate solution..one of my strong suits is that I'm a problem solver..and don't care were I draw the solution from..as long as it works..
Had quite a enjoyable lunch with my bro and his Mrs..as I mentioned last night there off to Florida for a month leave Thursday..and at the Local Chinese Buffet..although I'm quite eclectic in my choice of food..if forced to eat only one cuisine I'd probably chose Chinese..as long as could sneak in a wedge of good Blue Stilton cheese..I just made a big mistake..I googled blue stilton cheese..for sale on line is the page I got..dang where did I put my internet debit card..I love cheese of all sorts but blue is my fav..noses out a good aged cheddar by a very small margin..I ain't taking pre-packaged-sliced-cheese here..I talking real cheese in wedges, bricks or rounds..and I'm willing to pay for good cheese..and don't get me started on so called vegan cheese..it could get quite ugly..do you have dueling pistols? [hehe]..
Also been quite a busy day on "The Farthest Side"..many new member requests..which we carefully check..still need to button up "Trollie's Game Room" for the night..and haven't checked e-mails yet..ergo..nite all..

[Sunday's Hi/Lo:+34*F/+13*F/40% chance of light snow]..[MadTrollie's."The Mix"..]....
I had intended if I walked at all today to wait until mid-afternoon when it had warmed up a little..but just after 10:00..temperature was +16*F..windchill was still zero, but bundled up and walked to Aldi..it really wasn't that unpleasant..and sidewalks were basically clear..a few icy patches but nothing to slippery..just the usual items except got some mixed greens, had used them in the past and decided to use them again..I'm kinda off the root veg kick..
About 15:00 had every thing on-line and decided to walk to Ollie's and Dollar General..usual just a short drop down the hill but with the snow my shortcut is impassable..so the long way around..some butter cookies..some flexible cutting boards..mine had seen there better days..I have a favorite knife I use in meal prep..but it's been used and sharpen maybe one or two many time..and I can't get it to hold an edge any longer..ended up after looking at several options with a new knife which is identical to the one 1 have..only new..Dollar General..some cookies, a jug of tomato juice..and 2 bags of my guilty pleasure..peanut butter stuffed pretzel nibs..I was out and I think I was starting to start to have symptoms of withdrawal..[hehe]..
Just got a PM from my bro..he and the Mrs. are heading to Florida for a month or so..leaving Thursday..so we are going to have lunch at the local Chinese Buffet tomorrow..
I still have a few things to tie up before I had to bed..and probably will go early tonight if possible..the two walks today kinds of tried me more then usual..but then I don't get out as much as I would like in the winter..in the nicer weather I have a loop I walk almost ever night weather permitting..nite all..

Just as forecast it's been near or below 0*F all day and wind chills below 0*F all day as well..and just as I predicted last night..I've been in my warm and cozy rooms all day as well..save for two  brief trips to the lobby..for my daily muffin, boiled egg and yogurt this AM..and a coffee this afternoon..have switch from toffee coffee to just high test black coffee..no  decaf for me..if they had it available I'd chose espresso..had my first taste of it at a beatnik coffee house my senior year in high school while attending a model UN conference at Buffalo State College..enjoyed both the conference and the espresso..
It being Valentine's Day..I recalled that when I was in 9th grade in English class..we were given an assignment to write a Valentine poem..well I wrote a humorous one..I remember the first couplet.."Once there was a boy named Cupid..who shot his arrows and people turned stupid.."..the rest has disappeared in the fog of being some 57 years ago..apparently the teacher didn't have a sense of humor..I found out later he had just proposed to his fav lady..the poem rhymed..and the meter was spot on..and I got a grade of 65 on it[last passing]..well I got pissed off because the rest of the class wrote crap and got good grades..I took the poem to my guidance counselor..and the next day was given by my English teacher a very reluctant 95..but "kept my nose clean"[link] in that class until the end of the school year..
That might have been the first time but not the last..in college..I would do exhaustive research on a subject..present a well writing and logical paper..and get marked down because I didn't agree with the professor..and we're not talking science or even history here..I was a a biblical studies, philosophy major..and there were more than one way to interpret the passage/subject..could have just gave the prof what he wanted..what he believed..but just couldn't do it..dang intellectual honesty..
Still things to do before I take my rest..nite all

We really haven't had more than a couple of inches of snow today..but I doubt that the sidewalks would have been passable for a gimpy, grumpy, old codger like me that walks with a cane and has balance issues..and one look at the forecast for Friday and even if the sidewalks were passable..with the ambient temperature that low..I don't even want to know what the wind chill might be..but curiosity got the best of me so I check..purely out of intellectual concerns..not that I had any thought of going out in it..09:00 Friday morning the windchill is forecast to be -22*F..now in the past before my retirement when I ran a shipping department for a small factory in these parts..sometimes was outside working when the windchill was -40*F+..but I was a lot younger than..and was being very well paid..actually the later had more to do with it than the former..and of course my Carhart cold weather gear helped as well..and even if the pantry wasn't full..and it is..there are plenty of restaurants and grocery stores in the area that deliver..I don't know whether I've gotten lazier or smarter in my old age..I'll walk..sidewalks  permitting..but if the windchill &/or temperature dips below 0*F..I retreat to my warm and cozy rooms and stay there..
The first of the new moderators on the FB group "The Farthest Side" started today..and truth be told  she posted in the Admin/mod message board that she had declined her first member request..well..I reviewed it..and gave her a thumbs up..she was right on the button..since I do the lion's share of the vetting..and could really use the help..looks like we've found a good one...
Have things to do both on and off line before I take my rest so will wish one and all a goodnight..

Did a quick inventory of my on hand supplies, and assuming that we get the snow predicted overnight through Thursday evening..and the sidewalks may not be properly cleaned until Saturday..and also factoring in except for the first two episodes, which were older ones I wasn't particularly fond of on NCIS..might as well walk and get the few things I would need to hold me over until Saturday..just the usual fare..and yes I do realize that I am the king of the run on sentence..
Besides that have spent the day as I often do..online..had one of the most enjoyable sessions of poke [on-line free site..no real money changes hands..just faux game money]..but the small ball, slow play, trapping style I prefer to play..is usually in conflict with the what I consider to be the very loose style that having nothing real to lose has over taken the game..but today for most of the session the rest of table played a style similar to mine..at the very end the loose play reared it's ugly head..had a pocket pair..flopped three of a kind..he pushed..I slow played..just smooth calls and won a nice pot..oops the game being played is "Texas Hold 'Um"..actually not my poker game of choice I prefer 5 or 7 card stud..but can't find a reasonable free site where it's being offered..
I've been a little frustrated with the "work load" on the FB group "The Farthest Side"..we have a few mods who  aren't doing there share of the vetting..but new mods are being considered so hopefully the numbers I've been doing will drop to a more manageable amount..I've been getting a little "burned out"...that said still things to deal with both on/off-line..so will bid you a pleasant evening..

An interesting day..played poker [free site] this early morning..and for a change hit the right hand and the right time..had a prescription to pickup at the pharmacy in Price Chopper so took the time to pickup just a few items of food I didn't exactly need..but wanted..a quick look at T J  Maxx both nothing struck my fancy..decided to walk this afternoon to Big Lots and Ollie's..now earlier in the weekend the "short cut" I use was open..so got dressed and headed out..apparently they've plow [who ever the mysterious plows may be]..and there is now a 3 foot bank of snow interdicting my path..nuts..and didn't need anything that badly to spend the time taking the long way around..and not crazy &/or foolish enough to attempt climbing that &^^%$ bank..what makes matters worse if I had known about the blockage this AM I could have made a short detour on  my way back from Price Chopper..dang..
Other than today being Tuesday and my weekly visit from housekeeping..the day other than that mentioned above has been typical of  most of my days..and since I don't have any thing witty to say..will simple wish  one and all a good night..

We apparently missed out on most of predicted storm overnight..we did get maybe a new 3 inches or so of snow..but I saw no evidence of the ice predicted..originally..that is last night..hag no intention of walking today..got one of  best nights sleep in quite awhile..one of my meds has a diuretic effect of tat I rarely sleep more than two hours at a time but last night in a tad over 8 hours was only awoken once..but it was good news/bad news..sure I was well rested..but apparently I slept too long on my right side and my right hip and right knee were unhappy with me this morning and were stiff and sore..now I walk with a cane because of balance issues due to my essential tremors..but this morning it served a dual purpose..but as the day wore on it  became obvious that the conditions were such that I could probably walk with only minor inconvenience and the leg quit complaining..and I made my way to Aldi..there were  spots where the sidewalks were less than perfect..but were sloppy/slushy but not slippery so I trudged on through with no harm..and since there is no indication of bad weather over the next couple of days..will probably walk the other way to Price Chopper..[I have some B-1 I need to pickup] and possibly T J Maxx..Dollar Tree and maybe Staples..I think when I decided to buy a laptop..both for convenience and a backup to my desktop..I probably will buy online but I want to check our different models directly..My bro and his Mrs. are in town most Wednesday and I make see if they'd take me to the Mall..there's a Best Buy there and they may have something Staples doesn't..the Mall is slightly out of my walking range..especially during the winter..a few things yet to  attend to..nite all....

A weird thing just happened..I use not only the Chrome browser but my machine runs Chrome OS..when I post I always put the music in a window..and then open a second window for the Blogger software I use to post..and it's been working that way since I  got the machine over 3 years  ago..and earlier today..but tonight for some reason..when I opened the second window..the first window won't run..[shakes his old grey head]..anyways..decided to re-boot..and now it's back to normal..[knock wood]..now you have to understand when I was back in school..you programmed computers with punch cards..I use 'um..but really don'r have guess one how they do what they do..but that's what my one nephew is for..he's got a masters in computer science and works for Google..
It wasn't quite as cold as predicted today..and the wind chill was in the single digits but above not below zero..decided to walk to the convenience store and get my dip..the sidewalks were still a mess in that direction..now the is a regulation in the city that property owners have 24 hrs to clear their sidewalks after the last flake has fallen..but I live on the edge of a commercial area and the enforcement of that regulation is woefully lack..ended up in the street a couple of times..but the traffic is usually light around 10:00 on Sundays..peeps  in church..
Have spent the rest of the day quietly in my rooms..a unusually large new member requests on "The Farthest Side" today..and so have spent more time there than /usual..but am pretty well caught up with every thing..but still a few day's ends details to deal with..ergo..nite all..

Despite the doom and gloom of today's forecast..at least in the area around my  rooms we maybe got 3" of snow and no observable ice..but realizing that it would probably take a day or for the sidewalks to get properly attended to..decided to wait until tomorrow to walk..but that was before I checked the hourly listings for tomorrow's daylight hours..I have poor night vision and with the footing being less that perfect with the possible snow & or ice on the sidewalks..walking at night is not an option..as I checked what the Weather Channel lists as the hour "feels like" temperatures..a prefer the old school "windchill"..for almost the entire daylight hours the windchill was below zero F..now I have the knowledge and the cloths to deal with that..but no longer chose to do so..so because I really did need both from a supply stand point..and also from I deep seated need to go  for a walk..decided to walk today despite what the condition of the sidewalks were..for the most part they were passable..with effort..but on the way back did avoid the worst part by walking on the edge of a well plowed street..traffic was light..and was glad I had..as I was walking into Aldi..who was leaving but an old friend.."B"..she used to be the head-housekeeper at the facility I live in before the change in ownership..she's "good people"..haven't seen here since the change over and had a very nice chat..just the usual raw veg..bananas..liquid egg whites..and some fruit flavored sparkling water..and yes this time they did have green onions..
I made a tuna and pasta salad this afternoon..I use microwavable pasta..and canned chuck tuna in olive oil..yup..I  know..water packed is more healthy..however I grew up on oil packed..and that's what i prefer..so that's what I use..some white onion chopped and some sweet gherkins also chopped..black Himalayan sea salt, cracked mixed pepper corns..and a mayo made with olive oil..and it is now in the frig chilling..but I hear it calling to me..ergo..nite all..

So far we've picked up maybe a couple inches of fresh snow..but as of yet not winter mix..so not sure what will happen this evening..depending on how much freezing rain we might get..there is the possibility of a loss of power and/or WiFi if the ice build up on the power lines is thick enough..??..ergo have decided to post a little earlier then /usual..just in case..
I usual get a boiled egg each morning from the  breakfast buffet and either eat it sliced with my first meal with salt..pepper..and vinegar..or cut it into my salad for second meal..now yesterday had left it for my salad..but wanted a small one and then realized I had two tomatoes that were fast approaching the point of no return..cut both up and left the egg out..forgetting this got an egg again this morning..and realized I had two..[hum]..so left the usual fruit and grain bar off the morning meal..split the two eggs in half..removed the yokes..salt..pepper..mayo..and the last of the capers from the old bottle..and had some deviled eggs for first meal..maybe a little odd for a first meal..but then I have been accused of being or doing somewhat odd many times before..and have never paid a whole lot about what others my think about me or some of the things I do..and besides they were quite tasty..
Have spent the rest of the day quietly in my rooms..have still somethings that need my attention..do will bid you Good Day..

Our weather starting at midnight today through early Saturday morning depend on who you want to believe..now if you favor "The Weather Channel" snow will begin around midnight and 4 to 6 inches of snow is expect..on the other hand if you prefer the "Nation Weather Service"..[see "Winter Weather Watch" in the footer..01:00 is the time that the storm will begin..with 4 to 7 inches of snow predicted..and up to 1/10 of an inch of ice..and in the same warning..6" or more of snow..now I have "The Weather Channel" bookmarked..it's were I get the weather reports I summarize and post here..and where do I get the "Winter Weather Watch"..from a link on "The Weather Channel"..leaves me a tad farmisht..so who do I believe..truth be told..more often then not neither is completely wrong or completely right..especially when you live about 20 miles "as the crow flies" east of one of Mother Nature's favorite weather making machine..i e.."Lake Ontario"..in any case..it doesn't really matter which I believe..it is my firm intention to stay in my warm, cozy, comfortable rooms until Saturday morning comes..or at least until with my own eyes..by my own direct observation I can determine whether it's safe and or reasonable for this gimpy, grump, codger who walks with a cane to venture out..and if we get anywhere near the amount of snow &or ice predicted..until the sidewalks have been properly dealt with..the winter pantry and frig are full..bring it on..on the other hand if because of the ice or snow we lose power or the WiFi..[knock wood]..I promise you heads will roll..

I have spent some time today working on my playlists..most of the time on "Flash Mobs"[definition]..the ones I'm saving to my playlist are all music..mostly classical..but I would list "Flash Mobs" in now playing any more..because the whole point is that they shouldn't be only listened to but really need to be watched as well..to see how those not involve re-act..some also involve dance..now I will leave the link in the sidebar..and from time to time leave a link in a post to a specific one..i e..today's fav is "Greek Zorbas"[link]..which must be watched to truly appreciated it..
When I checked the weather this morning for the next three days decided that I'd better walk either today or tomorrow..so decided to head to Aldi for sure and possibly Big Lots..and since Friday would be the day that I would have usually gotten my "10 day walking around money" and since it was just short detour in that direction..maybe stop there as well..but went I  got to the place to head to Big Lots..my short-cut was impassible..didn't feel like walking the long-way so just Aldi and the bank..may or may not walk the other way to Price Chopper Plaza tomorrow..haven't as of yet decided..and then hunker down Thursday/Friday and see what Mother Nature may have in store for us..

I've been having a little trouble as of late..now my left ear is down to about 10%..but the right is normally around 60%..but of late I've been having a problem hearing period..[the left ear problem is an inherited condition]..but I have in the past have had problem with ear-wax build up..so with out a Q-tip available..went digging round in the right one with a trombone paper clip..their are about twice as long  as a regular clip..but wider..any how I dislodge a quite small very hard piece of ear-wax or possibly a "foreign substance"..and like magic..hear was back to normal..well normal for me now..but even I recognized that using a trombone paper clip for such a purpose probably wasn't the best idea I've ever come up with..definitely not the worst one..but should make a better choice..ergo..I took a walk to Ollie's this morning and got some cotton swabs for that purpose..and stopped at Dollar General for a 6 pack of 7.5 oz Cherry Cokes..I rarely drink soda..or as we called it from where I was brought up..pop..but enjoy a little from time to time..and the 7.5 oz size fits the bill..the fact is you can identify the general areas in the USA a person comes from by what they call a carbonated beverage..[see map in the center footer]..
Have spent a considerable amount of time today searching Youtube for videos of "Flash Mobs" and have added several to that playlist..but halve the fun of them is watching the reactions of the people in the area where all of a sudden there are a bunch of people singing and playing..back in my day around Christmas the youth group I was part of would go caroling to the homes of church members and also would walk the halls of what we called back in the day the county Old Folks Home..if the "Flash Mob" had been around in my day..my reaction would have bee..when..where..I'll be there..
Just a few tasks to go before I call it a day..nite all..

I'm posting maybe a tad early today..but with the exception of 2 more chip drops on the free on-line poker game I play..last post to "Trollie's Game Room"..last check of emails ans keeping an "eye" on "The Farthest Side" [[FB group at which I'm a moderator]..everything else is buttoned up for the day..reason has nothing to do with the "Super Bowl" which starts at 18:30 today..besides the pre-game and pre-pre-game have been on air since 11:00 this morning..oy vey..I grew up in Buffalo NY..and used to follow the old AFL Bills..but over the years have lost interest in the game..in fact the last few years I actually watched the "Super Bowl" I just watch for the commercials..some neat one's have aired..my fav was "Herding Cats"[link]..I guess what has turned me off on the NFL and pro sports in general are the absurd level that the players have taken celebrations..for almost every play..now I never played sport beyond the small college level here in the USA..but if anyone had pulled even a fraction of that crap in a game back then [1960s]..someone on the other team would have show their disapproval of being "shown up" in that way in a very physical way later in the game..if the act itself didn't provoke an immediate melee..I played what the rest of the world calls football what we call soccer..and was involved in a few nasty ones..besides how can you call the game football when only two players on a team ever kick the ball..??..[end rant]
Made an excuse to walk earlier..really I just needed to get out in the crisp air..I was low on green onions..and there were a couple other things I could pickup..so off to Aldi..and guess what they were out of..green onions of course..you know it's not paranoia if they really are out to get you..but had a couple of nice chats with a couple of the kids that work there..and yes they are ladies..I might be old but I'm not dead quite yet..and the day I quit looking is the day they nail the lid over my head..
Just a few more things to take care..next up..off to the lobby for my daily toffee coffee..nite all..

It's been quite an enjoyable day..didn't have the best day at the online poker tables this morning..but then nowhere near the worst day I've had [remember "free site" only faux game money changes hands]..but it's the way I chose to start my day..out of bed [05:00 +/-]..a few routine tasks and off to play some poker..and then through the day..Spades and several solitaire games..some picked just because I like game[s]..but some picked to keep my cognitive functions sharp..and then through out the day modding on "The Farthest Side"..attending to my blogs..and searching Youtube for new videos/music to add to my playlists..
So today was not unlike most of my days..did walk a couple of times..this morning just after 09:30 to Aldi..just the usual items..liquid egg whites, bananas, and fruit flavored sparkling water...and just after 13:30..to Ollie's and Dollar General..just two different bottles of olive oil..some grated cheese..and a tin of beef and gravy..the beef is no anything I eat on a regular basis but some times i get as we would have said back in the day "a hankering" for it..
Have spent the rest of the day quietly in my rooms..just taking care of my on-line activities..the time is fast approaching to tie things up as it were  for the day..ergo..nite all..
