I've spent a very quiet day..the weather has continued to be much cooler than it has been over the last few days..in fact when I did my /usual weather check around 06:00 for posting on "Trollie's Game Room"..the outdoor temperature was +38*F..although according to the advanced forecast the daytime high tomorrow will be in the lower 60s F and in the upper 70s and lower 80's for the rest of the week..rain on Tuesday and Wednesday..I had completed my shopping for the next few days yesterday and had hot planned to walk until mid week so didn't walk today but except for a couple of brief trips to the lobby have spent my day in my rooms and online as I do most days..but did spend some time watching parts of the first two "Laura Croft" movies which were show on the Syfy channel..with the movie Hackers the "Laura Croft" flicks are the only three Angelina Jolie movies I actually would watch..[a short break while I attend to one of my "live' games]....
That was a tad longer than I expected..decided to checking on the FB group "The Farthest Side"..where I'm a mod and there were some membership requests I thought I'd better deal with..we have a private chat room for the admins and mods..and when I checked for the first time this morning there were more than the usual amount of unread..scrolling back to where I left last night the chief admin..["owner of the site]..had used me as an example of how to accomplish our tasks..to which I replied "aw shucks"..and then..if he or one of the other admins weren't there I had the "Con"..to which I replied.."it's a lot like letting the inmates run the asylum [hehe]"..but..hey..if I do a thing..I do that thing as well as I am able..and quite honestly there are days when the modding feels too much like work and I've been retired for quite a few years..but I really like the site and I'm willing to put the "work in" to see that it stays the way it is..but it's taken up more of my rime of late..probably due to the "lockdown" and peeps are home and spending more time online..and joining new groups..and it takes time to "vetting" new member requests....

It's been much cooler today than it has been of late..we had some brief light rain earlier this afternoon..and a few showers are still possible toward mid-evening..after checking my and pantry and the weather forecast it became apparent that I needed to walk within the next two days..and decided to let the timing of my online play..particularly the three live games decided..just after 11:00 had a two hour window in which I had nothing coming due..ergo..off to Aldi..some bananas..a quart of liquid egg whites_some fruit flavored sparkling water_a bottle of  Worcestershire sauce which is one of several ingredients that go into my morning glass of tomato juice..but for the last 31+ months I have left the vodka out of the mix..and in what was almost miraculous actually remembered my shopping list and had actually remembered to add ketchup to the list..and as almost always happens decided I needed some sausage..so have a careful survey of the available offerings ended up with a package of turkey andouille sausage..not quite as good as the traditional poke..but an good substitute....
As I mentioned last night although the official Memorial Day observance is now the 4th Monday in May..I'm a gimpy_grump_crotchety_old codger and for me Memorial day will now and forever [or at least until I am no longer among the living] remain the 30th of May..oh I forget to include I'm stubborn and set in my ways..but my thoughts have been with my dad and four uncles all who have pasted on..who served in WWII..I miss yous guys....
The end of the day is fast approaching and still a few last details to attend to before I take my rest..ergo..nite all....

It's been a damp dreary day here even before the rain started..and although I did here a few claps of thunder it seemed as if it was in the distance..but then I live in a cement block building..and never actually looked out the window during the storm..
When my daughter was younger 3 or 4 years old..and we were sitting in our enclosed front porch watching a thunder storm..we lived on a four corners and a bolt of lightning hit the manhole cover in the middle of the intersection..about 50' away..after that every time it would  thunder and lightning for the next few years she'd sit in the middle of her bed saying.,"we're going to get sizzled"..and then there were the cats..five of the furry rascals..3 would hide under various beds..one would scratch on the cellar door..go down into the family room and hide in the drop ceiling..and the 5th would sit in one of the windows of the aforementioned enclose porch and watch the storm..I always suspected that one of being brain dead....
I mentioned Monday it was Memorial Day here in the USA..the day were remember veterans of the military..but the traditional day up until 1971 was on the 30th of may..while in the high school I participated for five years in parades and cemetery services honoring the fallen in particular and all veterans in general..my day and all four of my uncles served in the US armed forces in WW II..and so today and tomorrow my thoughts will be with them..all 5 survived the war although my Uncle Frank was wounded..I have a composite picture of them in uniform which I'm going to place in the "footer"....
Well that time is upon me once again..nite all....

Man what a wild and crazy day yesterday turned out to be..I'm usually up one side or the other of 04:00 and one of the first things I do is get my "live" games started..during my morning session of Poker the game crashed around me..I could get to the lobby and talk chip drops but couldn't play..okay..not obviously what I wanted but intended to check back periodically..and off to my other games..then around 10:00 I lost my WiFi connection..which was off until just after 18:00..and gave me 2 hours to try to pickup the pieces of the wreck the day had become..the only positive thing about the whole deal was that the USA network as they do most Wednesdays were showing a marathon of NCIS episodes most off which I liked..but it left me the problem of making the best use two+ hours I had left in the day..but because I wasn't online to fulfill my modding duties on the FB group "The Farthest Side" the other mods were overwhelmed..so needed to spend time there..and decided to make what I could of getting at least some things done on the games I play..so that left very little time to post..and as I had already had most of my postings to "Trollie's Game Room" done..I always do most of it first thing in the morning and had got that done before I lost the WiFi..so it made sense to finish that..therefore..didn't post here last night..
Although rain was predicted for this afternoon the morning although overcast,  humid and a stiff breeze I needed just a few things at Ollie's and Dollar General so walked just after 10:00..out door and interrupt the feeding frenzy of about 8 goslings and the always vigilant parents..who when they saw me ran away..there are two pair of adults in the pond just a stone throws to the north of my backdoor..I say about 8 because on the run a count was an estimate at best..when I was running inventory crews years ago if for what every reason we estimated a quantity we'd write SWAG after the line..standing for  Scientific Wild Ass Guess..and my estimate is just that..hard to count the little fuzz balls on a dead run....
Now before I write a novella will bid to you a goodnight....

Obviously it's been a hot day in these parts today..after I saw the weather forecast this AM and checked my pantry decided that I probably sure take my trip to Aldi today..and as early as possible..and they open @09:00..and I had about an hour and a half lull in my "live" games starting @09:01..and to walk when it was some what cooler..now +79*F  and 88% humidity doesn't equate to cool in mind..but it's certainly cooler as opposed to what was not only predicted but predicted accurately for this afternoon/evening..so took my walk this morning..I was a pleasant walk if a little on the stuffy side..but got what I needed and there will be no need to take that trip  until the weekend again.....
Did decided to maybe walk the lawns this afternoon and then get my afternoon's toffee coffee..but very quickly decided that maybe that wasn't the best idea..and cut it short....
Today being Tuesday and the week;y visit by housekeeping..they've added a new "team" to the housekeeping staff..and they did a very good job of cleaning and changing my linens..well  not my linens but the ones on the bed....
I've been getting some disturbing "vibes" from some of the ads. & commentary  both online and on TV..talking about when the CV-19 crisis is over..and the "new normal"..and my first reaction was just what was wrong with the "old normal"..??..if you look back at the history of Presidential Election Years here in the USA there always seems to be a crisis..and if there wasn't..someone would as we said back in the day.."Make a mountain out of a mole hill"..a presto a crisis..my only concern is that someone(s) or group(s) with an agendum will use this to push said agendum..you can call me paranoid is you will..but remember it's not paranoia if they're really out to get you..[end rant]....
Well the end of the tasks approach and I will bid you a goodnight....

It was a beautiful afternoon so decided to take a walk..but decided that I really didn't want or need for that matter ant thing from the stores..will probably make that walk either tomorrow or Wednesday..so decided to walk a couple of laps around the hotel on the lawns and  parking lots..figure a lap is approximately 3/16th of a mile..and I back tracked a little..got my afternoon toffee coffee and then decided to run up to the bank for my "10 day walking around money" and check the balance on my checking..got a statement today but it didn't show this months direct deposit of my SSI check..but the statement was dated the day it would have arrived and won't have been posted until the next day..and as I surmised it had arrived..on the way back when through the lobby and paid my rent for the up coming month....
During my walk happened to pass the veggie garden that the family who owns the hotel has been working on and they were planting today..they live in the hotel..and are from India so I expect that chilies will be grow..but it reminded me of many years ago my family did the something every Memorial Day..although in those days it always fell on the 30th of May..now a Monday holiday....
We lived at the time about 20 miles to the east of Buffalo New York in Erie county..in a rural area..mostly dairy farms..now my dad was a core-room foreman in a foundry on the western side of Buffalo..and commuted back and forth during the working week..and every Memorial Day we would plant are veggie garden probably 40' x 100'..we also had a chicken coop w/a dozen hens..eggs and when the quit laying they would end up in the stew/soup pot..the task of weeding the garden was done by all of the family members..unfortunately the job of gathering eggs..no not that bad but mucking out the old straw and adding new fell to me..sis had a feather allergy..I'm sure it was real but at the time I regarded it as quite convenient..a very smelly task....

After the brief light showers overnight the weather is clear thru Wednesday PM..when rain is expected..my plan now is to go for groceries either Tuesday or Wednesday AM..did sit out briefly this afternoon but it was in the mid-80s and virtually no breeze..and no shade for that matter..because of the cold weather in April and early May..the trees are a bit later in the arrival of their foliage and just the first sprouts are there but the full leaves are yet to arrive so shade is minimal..add to that that this run of warmer weather is the first of this year..the body tends to regulate its'self by the most common extreme..and at the latitude of 43.9748* North..that extreme is cold..years ago in January we had a day when the temperature was -55*F..and there were winds of 50 mph..putting the windchill in-excess of -100*F..frostbite & hypothermia could occur in under a minute..obviously no one ventured out that day..but it's not uncommon in Winter to have days where with windchill the temperature is -40*F or colder..ergo..it takes awhile for us to really get a custom to the heat..don't get me wrong..I enjoy the warmer weather but it just takes a few days for me to adjust..and a little longer now that I'm older....
There was very little on TV today of any interest to me and even less on tomorrow..I mention last night that tomorrow [May 25} is Memorial Day here in the USA..and my plans are to observe it quietly and in my rooms..I mentioned that my dad and my four uncles all served in WW II so they will be on my mind tomorrow..also have known other vets of other wars so they will be remembered as well..now on the other hand the memories of marching in parades on Memorial Days when in the high school band..in hot weather..in wool West Point style uniforms..those are memories I'd like to forget..and can't..but I do miss my old band-mates..3 of which I have just within the last few years re-connected with thru Facebook....

I had needed a couple of items from both Price Chopper and the convenience store..and had a couple of hours between actions I wanted to take on the "live games" i play..so decided to go this morning..but failed to factor into the decision that Monday was Memorial Day here in the USA and this weekend every years is the start of the Summer season..there are a lot of people not from this area who own camps [what we Northcountry folk call cottages]..both on Lake Ontario, the St Lawrence River and other lakes in the region..and this weekend is traditionally the time that they  come up and open the camps for the Summer..and factor in the delays in the grocery stores necessitated by the mandatory cleaning between customers at the checkout line..what I thought would be a quick in and out..oy vey..should have packed a lunch..some peppers..shallots..garlic..a package of pre-cooked and breaded shrimp..and with great relief discovered that they hadn't stopped stocking my favorite pre-made burritos..but had simply been out of them..all I want is a medium size beef and bean burrito..no cheese..not heavily spiced..now I do add my own cheese..good cheese..and spice to my tastes..and yes the process does include hot sauce..I love spicy foods..unfortunately spicy foods don't always love me..ergo..I want your basic burrito which I can modify my way..and have to date only found one brand the "fits the bill"....
Originally Memorial Day [originally called Decoration Day] was started In 1868 in order to honor the veterans from the American Civil War..and from 1868 until 1970 was celebrated on May 30th..before it was changed to the 4th Monday in May..it was the day that we always planted our veggie garden when I was a kid..and while part of the school band participated in parades and cemetery services honoring the veterans from all wars..My dad and my four uncles all served in World War II..and all are gone now....

While I was mixing a batch of my homemade cocktail sauce last night I realized I was almost out of sambal and remembered that Big Lots carried the brand I prefer and at a very fair price..so decided to take a walk this morning..I haven't been there for quite sometime..used to go every week on Tuesday...because they gave seniors a 10% discount on that day..that ended at the end of January..so I was only going once in awhile..and lately because of the restrictions just haven't walked the extra distance..in fact the clerk that checked me out..mentioned she hadn't seen me in quite awhile..she's a nice young kid and we usually have a nice chat..got my sambal and a bottle of olive bruschetta which I use to flavor my hummus..so had my chat with the clerk and since I had to pass by Aldi's parking lot on the way to the crosswalk decided to run in..check that..walk at a leisurely pace..if I  had tried to run I'd have tripped over my cane..just bananas..fruit flavored sparkling water..and a package of faux crab meat..basically white fish with flavoring..for use with the aforementioned cocktail sauce..and with my sauce it could have been crab favored crap and you'd not know the difference..what with healthy amounts of sambal and fresh grated horseradish..it would make cardboard taste good..well it's my story after and I'll tell it my way..the only flaw in the trip was I forgot to get ketchup as well..another ingredient in the sauce..dummkopf....
Another beautiful Spring Day here in the Northcountry..but I'm a transplant here..my roots are in Western New York..grew up about 20 miles east of Buffalo and while wandering around Youtube this after noon ran across a site..Forgotten Buffalo..which brought back a lot of fond memories..have just touch the surface of what's there so far but will probably spend many hours perusing the site....

Needed just a few things from Dollar General..a 6 pack of ginger ale..a bag of ripple chips..a package of brownie..and a package of same legal tablets and a couple of small notebooks...the last two are because I'm among other things a statistics nerd..nerd not geek..when I was growing up we still programmed computers with punch cards..I built a machine that would play "Tic-Tac-Toe" by wiring it..and I record all my many games played in them and then transfer much of the results to "Trollie's Game Room"....
Speaking as it were of my online gaming..I'm usually up by 04:00 local time and off to start my day's online play..I play 3 live games..Poker/Blackjack 21/Poker Slots..all free games only faux money changes hands..3 sims against computer opponents..Spades/Hearts/Chess..and 12 different solitaire games..some are for the simple reason that I like the games..but others are for the purpose of exercising my brain and my stiff..sore.damaged hands..Now up into now I've been interspersing my moderation duties on the FB group "The Farthest Side" between games..and it has become a distraction and a pain in the tuckus..the modding has become a chore..so today..I just played my games straight through..and then did my major posting to the aforementioned blog..and then  began my day's modding..and it seemed to work out much better and intend to keep that schedule for the foreseeable future....
But getting up at 04:00 I rarely am up past 21:00 and often before that..but being retired and living alone..I finally have reasonable control of my time..and will spend it as I see fit....

It was a beautiful day here but I behaved myself and didn't walk..well not very far anyways..this afternoon I grab my chair and made tracks for the back lawn and as I got outside there were a pair of Canada Geese munching on the fresh Spring grass..and were a tad annoyed at my arrival..so rather then go to my usual spot..just sat right outside the door and they settled back down..the male keeping watch and the female munching down on the grass..I've seen this scenario before..and with any kind of luck in little while they will be joined by a bunch of little fuzz balls..I sat there watching for quite awhile when something caught my attention in my paraphernalia vision and there also enjoying the Spring grass was a fat little woodchuck..and I just sat there enjoying the weather and watching the geese and the woodchuck..well it's what we rural northern boys call a groundhog [link]..In my youth I made some extra spending money removing them from a couple farmers fields with the help of a single shot 22 rifle..their holes in farmer's fields can brake a cow's leg if the step in it..and later we got permission to hunt some posted land by clearing out a few chucks and an old barn infested with pigeons..one of the species up here referred to as flying rats..but shotguns were used for that eviction....a great ground for hunting rabbits and a very good stand of hardwoods just full of squirrels....was pulling in to hunt one day and a a state trooper..stopped by.."You boys know this land is posted" said he..I showed him the note from the the owner..he knew the guy apparently..and asked "How"..said I "do you see any woodchucks or pigeons around here anymore" he just grinned and said "have a good day boys"..and yes..woodchucks and pigeons are good eatin'....I never shot any thing I didn't eat..I have no time or respect for "trophy hunters"..no time atall....

Needed a few things from Dollar General..when looking for something in  the frig realized my bottle of Gatorade Zero was almost empty and a check in the pantry revealed no back up..it is my custom to take a long drink of it after my walks..cools me down and helps me re-hydrate..as I former soccer mid-fielder and distance runner I know the importance of good hydration..and with the fact that one of my meds has diuretic properties..it's probably more  important now than it was then....
Got the Gatorade..a bottle of tomato juice..and needed some of the middle size paper plates I use..I have some nice grass dishes for cooking..but find paper plates and bowls more convenient for eating..well the had the size I wanted priced at 2.50$  each or 6$ for three and the other two sizes priced the same..ergo..grabbed one of each..ask the clerk..a new one..when she checked them out I got the discount price..boy I love saving money....

Earlier had a long chat with J one of the other residents here..and out the window observed a mated mated pair of geese with there goslings to far to count by the pond just to the north and he mentioned that he had see another pair with "fuzz balls" there as well..by past observation it seems a little late to see the first of the new hatch but with the weather the way it was in April I shouldn't have been surprised....

While looking out my window this afternoon there in the lawns were a grouping of 12 adult Canadian Geese..no little ones..I've seen this kind of gathering before..the only hypothesis I have it that it must be for whatever reason a grouping  of mate-less individuals..so if that is true..is if what i surmise be true..am I see the goose equivalent of a single's mixer..a couple of years ago I saw a grouping of  about 25 or so adults..no goslings..??..the weird thing was among the 12 geese I observed there also having a meal on the fresh grass a fat woodchuck..the weird thing was the geese  paid the "chuck" ho attention at all..??..
Although it had been my intention to wait until tomorrow to walk I decided that it was such a nice  day why waste it..so basically on a whim took off to Aldi..some bananas..a couple of bottles of fruit flavored sparkling water..a bottle of salad dressing and hopefully the quart of liquid egg white that they had been out of the other day..but everything was as right as rain..and then continued my walk to the convenience store..and back to my rooms..when I went to put my wallet away and check my ledger I realized that I should have added a stop at the ATM because today was the day I normally would have gotten my "ten day walking around money"..so put what need to be put in the frig away..and off to the ATM..which is just a short walk next store..but what was reminded of one of my dad's favorite sayings.."If You don't have it in your head..You have to have it in Your feet"....

As I've said before if you don't like Northcountry weather..wait 15 minutes it will change..last night the prediction was for rain the entire day today with heavy rains and T-storms in the late afternoon and early evening..and while we did get some light rain overnight..the heavy rain and T-storms and possibly tornadoes..but as I watched the radar over the course of the day..it was going to hit us hard..with the wind out of the south/south/west..but the wind direction started to change..first to the southwest..thru the west/south/west..and now from the west..and at this point the storm will miss us completely..Mother Nature will have her little joke on the weatherman and on us....
So I took advantage of the change in the weather to take a brief walk down to Ollie's and Dollar General..when I went to the cupboard last night to grab a one gallon storage bag discovered it was the last one..and I hadn't purchased the replacement for the quart size either..and I need my fav snicker doddle cookies at Dollar General..I got those items and when looking around Ollie's saw a bottle of sun-dried tomatoes which a put in my egg  dishes from time to time..and had just opened my last bottle..most probably stay in tomorrow although a nice day is on tap [knock wood] other then a sit down or stroll around the lawns..but since the advanced forecast predicts rain on Monday and Tuesday will probably walk to Aldi Sunday morning....
On of the things I generally do this time of day..is to check the TV schedule for the next day..and if I find something I'd like to watch..plan my days activity round it..well tomorrow's scheduling of my day will be quite easy..there ain't squat to watch on any of the myriad channels available to me..which unfortunately not an uncommon experience....
The end of the day upon me so I will take my leave and wish one and all a good night....

Was slightly cooler when I walk this morning..around 54*F..but only a very light breeze out of the south..a very pleasant walk indeed..I really enjoy the fact that I can walk without bundling up against the cold..just a quick trip to Aldi..just pretty normal fare except got a package of hot pockets..now I prefer burritos but when at Price Chopper yesterday discovered that they no longer carry my favorite brand and what both they and Aldi carry I really am not fond of..ergo..hot pockets..I had intended to get a quart of liquid egg whites..I had just opened my current quart and always buy the replacement the next time I go shopping..not only were they out of the whites but the liquid egg as well which I  would have bought..out of that to..ask one of the gals that work there..and she comment that the seem to be running out of  the oddest items..they always have a lot of both..??..
Have spent the day as/usual except that I took some time off to watch "Fast Five" and "Mechanic Resurrection"..
I had been wondering what had become of the pair of Canada Geese that were living in the pond just north of my lodgings..hadn't seen them in several days..but looked out my window and there their were..no little ones..but the male on watch and the female chowing down..so maybe they're just a tad behind in gosling raising process..
The end of my day approaches and still things to do..so I'll take my leave..nite all....

Although there is another freeze warning for overnight tonight..the extended forecast for the next several day's predicts daytime highs in the 60s*F and over night lows in the 40s and 50s..finally is seems that Spring has sprung..and not a day to soon....
Had things well in hand so decided to walk to Price Chopper and then be on the way back to Ollie's....In the area that I live in are three small drainage ponds..or at least that was there intended purpose..however the Canada Geese have an entirely different point of view on the purpose of said ponds..by this time most years we are awash in several mated pairs and there gaggle of little fuzz balls..and although until my morning walk seen a few pairs of adults I hadn't seen any little ones..on my way to Price Chopper I past by one of the ponds that has been fenced in..I observed thru the fence on the far side of it what I first thought was 2 mated pairs of adults..when I got closer and past them by there was one pair without any goslings..but the other pair..now it was hard to get an accurate count..tiny little buggers..could only have been a few days o;d and in at bunch bunch..best estimate was about 12..and further on two other pairs..one with 4 and the other with 6 and these were larger Id estimate maybe a week or so old..and I think I saw an old friend..one of last years hatch had a deformed foot and a very noticeable limp..and he had been around longer then most of the others..well today among the mated pairs and there was a single male with a limp..and a close look the deformed foot looked at least similar to the one from last years..could be my old friend..and yes I got severely hist at..got some peppers..some asparagus..some prepared horseradish..a couple of bottle of black cherry sparkling water and 3 packages of pre-fried haddock..and from Ollie's a couple of packages of candy and a bottle of very good olive oil which I got a deal on..was marked down 75%..and as I needed a bottle..a match made in heaven....
I'm off to finish my online day so to one and all a very goodnight....

I'm writing this post a little earlier than I normally do..but I'm trying to get most of what still needs to be done early so I can just sit down in my recliner and watch the TNT showing of the movie "Shooter"..I know I've seen it many times before..but I enjoy the flick and I really need to sit down for a while and relax..did I mention that Kate Mara is in the flick..I maybe old but I'm not dead yet and I intend to watch the ladies until the day they nail the lid over my head....
Have spent the day in my fortress of solitude except for a trip to the lobby for my afternoon coffee and a nice chat with the owner which centered on the restrictions due to CV-19..it's his understanding that the restrictions as it applies to hotels will be in the 3rd of the states 4 phase plan..possibly in July..
Oh and my fortress of solitude was invaded by three ladies...aka:my usual Tuesday visit from housekeeping..I survived and now have clean rooms and fresh linens..which I greatly appreciate..it's a job I can't really do myself anymore and won't if I could..when in college many moons ago I had a part-time job at the local public library in the city the college was in..and one of my functions was to clean the public restrooms..now I was 19 years old and still had a rather romantic view of the opposite sex..now the gentlemen among you are probably aware of the "poetry" that is scrolled on the walls of the stalls in the men's restrooms..having never been in a ladies' restroom I innocently thought that there would not be anything like that in the ladies' stalls..and I was right it was far worse..ergo..never again....
It's nearly time for the start of the movie so to one and all..goodnight....

Welcome to the Northcountry in Spring..the above Weather Warning was issued by the National Weather Service..and is the reason that we don't plant any annuals before Memorial Day [last Monday in May..and even then you often have to cover you plants after that..
The rain to day was neither a severe or as extended was predicted so mid afternoon I took a walk first to the convenience store..the walk i aborted yesterday and then on the way back stopped off at Dollar General..earlier I had gone to the pantry to get a package of one of my fav snacks..pretzel hubs stuffed with peanut butter..and found I had none..besides I use different different colored ink ballpoint pens to record my game play..and the last one of one of the colors ran dry on me this morning..requiring a trip to Dollar General..now quite by accident my timing was impeccable..I ran into B who under the old management here at the hotel I live in was the head housekeeper..but she left in the change about a year ago..I has seen her a couple of months back..and found out she was now working at the Hilton Garden Inn..which was no surprise as the general manage under the old ownership had went there as well..but she's on layoff now because of the restrictions the hotels in the area are way below normal averages in guests..with the mall shutdown..no shoppers from Canada..and with no construction going on..no out-of-town workers..usually this place I live in
is almost full this time of year for the above two reasons..anyways we struck up a friendship almost instantly when I moved in here about 9-1/2 years ago..and I miss our conversations..it was good seeing her..at first because of the mask I didn't recognize her..but once I heard that Louisiana accent I knew it was her..where she grew up...
A few things yet to accomplish so I will take my leave..nite all....

With the threat of winds and rain starting in the late afternoon/early evening I originally had no intention of walking today..besides I had a busy day on-line planned and except for a trip to the convenience store which I could do anytime over the next three or four days and don't really need to go food shopping for the better part of the week..but mid afternoon and everything on the to do list well in hand..and the weather hadn't set in yet..or so I thought at the time..I had had quite enough of the fortress of solitude and decided to at least walk up the hill to the ATM..when I got my "10 day walking around money" the other day since I was on my way shopping and didn't want to carry that much only drew out half the usual amount..and go to the convenience store weather permitting..got the cash and headed towards the convenience store..hadn't got very far atall and the wind picked up to the point that it was blowing my cane around and there was a mist in the air..and for once..allowed my better judgement to win out..and as I was passing one of short cuts back to my rooms..took it..and besides the weather Tuesday looks a better option..truth be told I have very good judgement..but all to often after listening to it..I let whim win out....
With the restrictions due to the CV-19 deal..I've had to curtail my walks..and that has been a hardship..I'm 72 years old..I have problems with both shoulders..so weight lifting as exercise is out..and with my balance issues a tread mill would be a disaster..and I've yet to find a stationary bike with a seat that is not counter indicated for fitting with my tuckus..so my walks are at this point my only viable form of exercise..besides I enjoy the nice weather and the long walks always relax me..
and It's gets boring just walking the halls here although I do as a last resort..in winter..when the weather is the reason for not outdoor walks..but now the weather outdoors is calling..dang....
Time to end this post and say goodnight....

I actually wasn't a bit surprised having spent most of the last 54 years in the Northcountry when I checked the weather just after 05:30 and saw that the windchill temperature was 18*F..and a look out my window revealed about an inch or so of snow covering the ground..but as I've mentioned in last nights post I've seen this scenario played out up here many times before....and the weather will be pretty much the same until Wednesday when the weather takes a turn to warmer temperatures..that's the good..the bad news is that with the warmer temperatures the rain will return....
I had been debating with myself when to schedule a needed walk to Aldi..and actually could have waited until even Monday before I was to the end of most of my fresh food..primarily bananas..but had a "hole" in my morning game play right around 09:00 and decided to take the walk and get there just after they opened..actually behaved myself for a change and didn't get anything that wasn't on my list..which by some strange twist of fate I actually took with me..the only issue that arose was I grabbed an English cucumber and really didn't take its' overall length into consideration..and when it was time to pack it it was too long for my sling back..so I ended up with it sticking out the one end of the bag just an inch or two..now once in awhile I'll get a baguette at Price Chopper which are considerably longer than that cucumber..If I can find one of the bakers I get them to cut it in half but I have headed back to my rooms with about 8" of baguette hanging out the side of the sling back..but it's worth it..I do love a piece of good crusty bread....
I now in possession enough bananas for the next 6 days or so..and have not intention of walking except for a stroll around the lawns or a sit-down..unless of course the state loosens up the restrictions..but I ain't holding my breath until the do..
Still things to do so will end this post before it becomes a novella..nite all....

Yup..a light dusting of snow possible this evening..and yup I know it's May..but one year we got 15" of snow on Mother's Day [always the 2nd Sunday in May]..and one year 18" of snow the day before Columbus Day [always the 2nd Monday in October]...there are two other Northcountry adages that apply here..[1] we have three seasons here.."Winter..just was Winter..soon will be Winter" & [2] we have two seasons.."Winter & construction".. and I  have seen a dusting of snow in June as well....
I'm reminded of a driver we saw about every 6 or 8 weeks..he delivered a truckload of plastic sheeting to factory out of Texas..he came one August day when it had been 90+*F and 90% humidity for the last 7 or 8 days..and me and the boys were "melting"..he needled me and my clerk on how we "northern boys" just couldn't handle weather..I told him if there was any justice in the world he'd catch this load in January when it was -25*F and then we'd talk about it..well it was a sunny January day..with a windchill of -40*F..and I was expecting the load..the door to the shipping/receiving room opened a an arm could be seen waving a white handkerchief..we poured coffee down him for about 15 minutes..and then said he "The Lord God made Texas for humans..and this God forsaken wilderness for polar bears"..needles to say he never mentioned how we did or didn't handle weather ever again....
Did take a short walk down the hill to Ollie's and Dollar General just to pick up  a few things I needed..and will walk to Aldi either tomorrow or Sunday for  food stuffs..but with the way the weather has been changing almost hourly will pick my spot....

I don't know why I was surprised but by mid afternoon I had all my on-line ducks in a-row..had just spent a bunch of time vetting new members for "The Farthest Side" and needed a break and decided to take a short walk around the lawns here and check the weather for temperature and wind..I had a hoodie on but wanted to check to see if I maybe should put my windbreaker on as well..now according to today's forecast that I had checked just after 05:30..it was supposed to be a nice day..daytime highs in the mid-50s and partly cloudy..what I found and also check on the radar was that light rain was expected for most of the evening hours..now it hasn't started to rain as of yet but the weather is threatening..now I've lived in the Northcountry for 54 years come the end of June..and the changeable weather should come as no surprise to me now..but it does catch me unawares..from time to time..but then the saying around here that I've mentioned before is "If you don't like the weather..wait 15 minutes..it will probably change..and for the worst"..I remember a day in October years ago I went to work on a fall day @07:30..and it was +75*F...by the time I left around 17:00 it was +36*F..and we got some light snow overnight..one Black Friday the temperature was in the mid-teens and we got 36" of snow..by that Monday the temperature was in the mid-50s and all the snow had melted.."Mother Nature" sure can be fickle in these parts....there other stories I could tell but maybe another time....
Have spent a very  enjoyable day in my rooms..save for the short walk and a trip this AM to the lobby for my breakfast items..mostly on-line although did watch a little TV while eating my second meal..took a quiz that I get by email..this one was "are you creative or practical"..normally the quiz misses me by several miles..one of the last ones supposedly said it could guess my exact age..according to the quiz I was 28 years old..not bad..it was only off by 44 years..but they got this one right..the results were that I'm both..which is what I am..but not what I expect from it..but then a stopped clock is right twice-a-day....I will take my leave..nite all...

Mid-afternoon with most of my on-line games and such in good order..I decided to grab my folding chair and have a sit-down on the back lawns..and just enjoy the warmer weather..by observation the trees are starting to show the buds that will soon become leaves..on the other hand the dandelions are already in full bloom..on the other hand the leaves of the plant if harvested before the flowers bloom are good eatin'....
At this point I have no plans to walk for the next four or five days..have more than enough supplies on hand and will be a good boy and stay in..well except for my strolls around the lawns and my probably daily sit-downs if the weather cooperates....

It was exactly a beautiful day today..it rained earlier and after that it's been damp and windy..not exactly a great day for a sit down..on the other hand it was a bad day for a walk around the parking lot  and grounds around the hotel I live in..in point of fact it wasn't a bad day for that twice....
I am aware that some may consider my living arrangements..i e living in a hotel which I've done for over nine years at this writing..well least unconventional..but..because of my diminishing eyesight..especially at night and in off weather conditions and added to that because of my essential tremors in stressful situations I can shake like a leaf as we said back in the day..I just don't trust myself behind the wheel..where I live on the edge of the commercial area of the small city I live in everything I need on a regular basis id within a 15 minute radius walk..including my doctor and there's an urgent care across the street..no need to drive or take public transit or cabs..although I pay more here then at the average studio/1 bedroom apartment here..I pay my rent once a month..no  utility bill..land line..TV..WiFi..no charge included in the rent..housekeeping once a week to clean my rooms and change the linens..again included..and access to a free breakfast..and most importantly..I don't have to mess with the snow removal..how one of my skills has always been very good math skills..when I say "I did the math"..you can take that to the bank..which I actually do..I save money living as I do..I'm not saying it would suit and/or work for everyone..but it works for me....
I'm scheduling my day tomorrow around the fact that AMC is showing "The Hunt for Red October" in the early afternoon tomorrow..and yes even though I'm retired..since I prefer an orderly universe and the fact that old habits from my working days die hard..I still schedule my day..doesn't always works out the way I planned it..but most times it does..but even I have those days when I get interrupted..and find myself.."Where was I?..What was I doing?..and Why?....

After comparing the weather for the next several days and and the food in my pantry and frig I have determined that Wednesday would be the right day for a walk..probably to both Aldi and Big Lots..and barring any special circumstances arising that's the plan..however weather permitting I plan to spend time the next couple of the back lawns either sitting or strolling and enjoying the beautiful Spring weather....
I except for watching sporting events..I never watch the major US networks..and what TV shows I do watch are on the "cable channels"..the one good thing out of this "lock-down" is that  some of the "cable channels" are showing some decent flicks and other programs so I have watched a little more TV then /usual..and then there is always Youtube....

It was a lovely Spring day here in the Northcountry..although I didn't walk despite a great desire to do so..I did have a sit down on the back lawns for awhile in the late afternoon..it was in the lower 60s..and the wind was a stiff breeze of 13 mph..but then it is Spring up here and we are about 20 miles "as the crow flies from Lake Ontario..and although it is predicted to be some overnight rain tomorrow weather is also going to be a nice day....
I've have basically taken the afternoon off..other than keeping up with the drops on the live games..I've spent the late afternoon and early evening just vegging out and watching TV..just finished watching "Wonder Woman" on TBS..and while posting this am listening to the beginning of "Justice League" which I will watch once this post is completed....
Although it's a pain in the tuckus for me..one who loves to take a late afternoon or early evening walk when the weather is nice as it is now..I'm trying hard to observe the travel restrictions and only walk when necessary..on the other hand I could make a convincing argument [as least to me}..that because of my age and my bad knees..feet..and shoulders..that long walks are the only form of exercise I am able to do..ergo..my walks are necessary to keep me health..probably more health than wearing mask and social distancing will accomplish..but at least for the present I will limit myself to only walking when I need food items or other necessities..and start walking the halls around here..or "stomping the yard"..check that..an easy stroll around the yards..but this deal is trying my patience of which I have very..very..little....
But "Justice League" is calling my name..and still have a few things to finish up for the day so will wish you health and a great night and a better day tomorrow....

There is an old adage here abouts that if you don't like the weather..wait 15 minutes and it will probably change..and probably it will get worse..based on the last forecast for today's weather last night I had know intent of walking today..high winds and rain most of the day..well for once the change was for the better..it did rain a little early..but the wind was one side or the other of 10 mph most of the day..and up here that's consider just a nice breeze..I live about 20 miles "as the crow flies"from the east end of Lake Ontario..and an absolute calm day is extremely rare..so decided to at least take the walk to Price Chopper and the convenience store..so walked just before 09:00..just the usual fare..peppers..garlic..shallots..some pre-cooked sea food..a bottle of Gatorade..and a can of oil packed tuna..I really dislike the water packed tuna..grew up with the oil packed and prefer it..and then a stop at the convenience store...and back  to my rooms....
The weather continued to improve so I decided to go to Aldi as well..again just the normal fare..bananas et al..but also a can of french style green beans..so now I'm set for 4 or 5 days and unless something comes up I intend to stay close to  my rooms...
Back in high school band we were practicing a transcription of Bernstein's "Overture to Candide"..a wicked difficult 1st & 2nd french horn part in the ending..so my 2nd K and I spent a couple of days after school working on it and we got stone cold right on..then next day the piece disappeared from the fold..when we asked the band director he said he'd pulled it because the clarinets couldn't get their parts..I knew it wasn't the 1st..we were in a woodwind quintet together..an excellent musician..had to be the 3rds..so the last 3rd sat about 6 feet from me..I did the math and put Xs on the stage floor for all five horns to aim the bells on a very loud piece we were playing..so the sound bounced off the floor and under the chair of the last clarinetist..you could see his chair and him vibrating..I swear there was no way he could hear himself play..well the point was made..next day a piece appeared in the folder with a great horn line in it..the funny part of the our 5th horn was the poor clarinetist older brother..I think he enjoyed the prank just a little to much..but it had it's desired affect..If a piece got pulled that we had worked hard on..the next day a piece would appear with a great horn line....
