Watertown, NY, USA . "Public Square" (vintage, date unknown) but the monument is honoring veterans of the American Civil War so the date of the image is late 1800s

(+69*F...mostly cloudy)
(a classical mix)
If the weather forecast is correct after today rain is predicted for the next 3 days, with thunder storms likely the first 2 days......need to check to see if I need anything before Friday...and get it today.....problem is that my knees are singing their sad tune today......but it's still early.....and I may not need anything anyways
When I was younger I was a sound sleeper, and could sleep through just about anything that included a Micro-burst, a mild earthquake and a construction crew using dynamite close by  .....and probably it's why I never remembered dreams......probably because I never woke up close enough to the end of a "dream cycle".......but as I got older, stress from work, and personal life,  not to mention the arthritis, and that one of my meds is a diuretic, I wake up more frequently when I'm sleeping, and started remembering at least briefly my dreams.......most were work related....but since I've been retired awhile, those type only occur rarely.....usually now the dreams are friend  related.....had a beaut last night....thing is that unlike most that are gone almost at the same time I remember them....this one is sticking on......not a clue why.....

(+80*F.....sunny)
(a "NCIS" re-run)
Despite the temperature, a nice day, relatively low humidity, and a light breeze....walked a couple of times.....was out of fresh fruit.....got some bananas, and red and black raspberries.....I remember as a child growing up rural, that there were wild raspberries in most of the hedge rows along farmer's fields.....but we used to call the big black raspberries...thimble berries....and the black raspberries I found remind me of those from my youth.......
Other then the walks just a quiet day......my main email account is "blowing" up with spam again.....happened a few months ago, and then got almost down to the normal 5 +/- per day.....and it's back up in the 30+ range.....I assume that some site, probably a game site that has no ads, sold my address.......and on another note in the last week or so I have received 4 friend requests on Facebook from pretty young girls, who I don't know from Lilith......and have no friends in common with me, Now I may have been born in the morning, as a matter of fact I was born in the morning, just not this morning....reject, mark as spam.....

(+69*F...fair......)
( a "Law & Order" re-run)
A beautiful morning, I walked just after 06:00 local time, a comfortable +62*F, just needed a few things at Price Chopper which is open 24/7 except for 36 hours starting on Christmas Eve....as it turned out except for a red onion, and some watermelon slices....very other item was on the "advantage card".....so saved a few bucks......but the best deal was microwavable pasta...usually about 2 bucks a package.....2 for $3......was going to buy 2 and got 4......some Italian sausage, Bush's baked beans (single serve size) and my morning ice cream cup.....
Finding something on the "Boob Tube" to watch is most times a lost cause....and if there are shows I like, they usually are on the same day, and overlap.....oy vey.....today BBC America starting at 14:00 local time is airing back to back "Dune (1984 release)" & "Hunt for Red October"......two movies that reside somewhere in my "Top 25 Flick List"......."Dune" is.....well.....more then a little quirky.....but then sometimes so am I....."Hunt for Red October" is just one of my fav kind of flick.....historical fiction.....also historical fiction is some of my fav binge reading......

(+76*F.....sunny)
(a "S.H.A.D.O." episode)
A very nice day.......walked early when the temperature was still in the mid 60s, which is really my preferred temperature over 80*F or higher.....after that just a quiet day.....some online poker, solitaire, some spades, and general surfing........some episodes of "Law & Order" and then re-watched "Justice League"......as I said a nice day.....a quiet day......which is more then I can say about last night
I've mentioned before that I live in a hotel, the July weekends after the 4th there are several youth sports tournaments which draw teams from NY, NJ, Pennsylvania.....this week end it is a girl's softball tournament.....and the level of noise was quite high.....last night it was the girls making the noise.....but in the past the adults have been worse then the girls....but there's still one night to go......
a great evening to hide in my rooms......

(08:21 UTC-4)
(+68*F....partly cloud)
( a "Lord Peter Wimsey" episode )
A very nice morning...although there is a threat of rain most of the day......turning hotter in the afternoon......have no reason to walk today......but with the nice weather this morning may have to come up with an excuse to walk anyways......
One of my favorite interests......is etymology......when I took Koine Greek in college, we did several what Doc Brown called "word studies".....the origins and changing meanings of words AKA etymology.......in writing a post to FB this morning i used the word "fond" and decided to check the roots of the word, which led me to check out "fun" as well......the old meaning of "fond" in late middle English meant "an foolish infatuation" and the old meaning of "fun" in middle English was "make a fool of, or a hoax"......and that made me recall an old farmer I knew as a kid would tell you a "tall tale".....and then say "I'm just funin' you".......oh bye the bye "tall tale" meaning folk-lore.........apparently coined by William Thoms in 1846 in the USA......did I say that etymology was an interest of mine.....more like an obsession.....me thinks........

(12:42 UTC-4)
(+78*F...sunny........wind 14 MPH)
(a classical mix off YouTube)
Really a great day for a walk..more on that later....a wind I would describe as "a nice breeze".....but you must know that I grew up in the lee of Lake Erie and have lived in the lee of Lake Ontario for a little over 52 years (except for 9 semesters of college) and we don't start calling it windy until it starts flopping your pant legs..........but was it a  walk or was it two walks......I started at Aldi.......needed just a few things, one of which is potato chips.....I almost never get flavored chips...except for he occasional salt and vinegar.....and prefer ripple chips....and prefer that my chips remain as whole as possible.....and since I carry my purchases in a sling bag.....chips tend to get crushed, so on the occasions I'm getting chips I also bring a cloth bag for the chips.....so on my way to Ollie's, The Thrift Store, and Dollar General.......I walk past my lodgings....so I popped in just long enough to put the chips and my other purchases away...and then (IMHO) continued my walk......didn't get anything at Ollie's....but it's a discount outlet......what they didn't have yesterday, they may have today...and it could be sold out and gone forever tomorrow.....usually check in once a week or so.......today what they did have.....I didn't need.....but if they do have it......you can get it for a great price.....and since it's on the same plaza as DG...it's like right there.....also stuck my nose in the Thrift Store......zilch....got a couple of bottles of Powerade, a grinder of pepper (nothing like fresh ground pepper) and my morning ice cream......a small cup.....a summer thing with me......and then back to my rooms.....

(14:21 UTC-4)
(+75*F...light rain)
( NCIS re-runs)
Been a very quiet day......and I like quiet days.....when I was working I had very few quiet days....at one point I worked 48 days in a row and my average work week was 6 days and at least 50+ hours....although 60 hour weeks  were too common....ran a shipping department, was in charge of inventory, inventory control, and did most of the MRP  (material resource planning) for my department, and also raw materials for production, a small factory that manufactured irrigation equipment for greenhouses and field crops.....
Been raining on and off for the last couple of days....had expected this based on the forecast, so every thing was taken care of in lulls yesterday......
Have you ever heard some one to prove a point say....."I did the math".....and most  times you know they couldn't have done the math with less then a 5 man scouting party....I had a discrepancy in my budget that drove me nuts.....well truth be told....you won't need to drove me nuts......just take my hand and walk me across the street......but I digress......but I have a built in weekly fail safe.....that kicked in today.....I grabbed a wrong number a couple days ago.......problem solved.....my system is good but sometimes even I make a mistake......actually have made many mistakes in my life...but rarely a math one......

(+76*F..rain)
(Now Playing: "Sink the Bismarck")
It's rained on and often since last night, but caught a couple of times to walk and pick up a few things......other wise been a quiet day.......for a Tuesday.....that's the day each week that the ladies of housekeeping come into clean my rooms and change the linen.....normally I stay and we talk but today I timed my first walk so they could go about their business with out my interfering......
Got up about 4:30 AM this morning, a couple hours earlier the normal, but just couldn't get back to sleep.....one of the cable channels was playing Star Wars episode I.....the only one I'd watch over and over....but was nodding off, so land down and took a 40 minute nap......never was much for the mid-day naps but as I get older it has become more common......
I was thinking today about the movies I like and realized most of them were made in the 40s thru the late 70s.......and only a few after that....and the last flick I saw in the theater was "Star Trek, the Motion Picture" and that was in 1979......I'd rather watch a flick at home in my pajamas and make my own popcorn.......

(+85*F...partially cloud...heat index.....+90*F)
( NCIS rerun )
Hot, humid day.....not only don't I have a a reason to walk.......i have a 2 reasons not to walk..........the hot weather outside and the AC inside.......
Went to bed early last night got 8 and 1/2 hours sleep......and about 12 hours after I had gone to bed last night I  had the worst occurrence of my essential tremors I've had in months......oops......I hadn't eaten in 12 hours......will do it every time....one of the reasons rather then the traditional breakfast, lunch, and dinner I eat 4 or 5 small meals a day......had some french toast sticks, breakfast sausage.....a banana......and some Powerade......and tremors gone.....well not gone completely but back to normal level.......also with age my.........my metabolism has slowed greatly.....and my appetite is much smaller.......when I was training for soccer and distance running.......( in my early 20s ) I ate 7500 calories per day and weighed about 145 Lbs......have had weight problems ever since ........finally got it more or less under control........been thinking it's about time for my daily raw veggie salad for 2nd meal......

(13:40 UTC-4)
(+81*F....cloudy)
(a YouTube mix)
The mix I'm listening to  has among other pieces several classical music "Flash-Mobs".......another hot/humid day but not that bad because there has been a breeze most of the day......or at least what those of us who live of the east end of Lake Ontario consider a breeze......about 15 MPH w/ the occasional gusts.......
There is a crew adding 40 more windmills to a wind farm up on Tug Hill...( to the south and east of here)....and the crew has been staying in the hotel I live in.......made some friends with members of the crew.....a bunch of them had book a white water ride on the Black River today and were trying to convince me to come with them.......not only is it not on my "bucket list" but is part of my "You might be crazy but you're not that crazy" list........(LINK).......truth be told I would have done it 50 years ago......and thought about doing it 30 years ago.....but when I was young I thought myself indestructible.....as a gimpy 70 year old ......I now that the guy who thought that was an idiot.....

(10:16 UTC-4)
(+75*F...sunny)
(a YouTube mix)
though it's just past 10 AM local time, I've taken 3 separate walks, direction, timing and amount to be purchased all factors.....also the heat factored in......first walk mid 60s.....first to the bank (ATM if truth be told).....to visit my money and ask some of it to come play with me....then to a dollar store......paper plates, Powerade, and my morning ice cream.....later to Aldi...I make my own mix of gorp.....aka trail mixed.....and it was time to make a new batch.......some cheese and rolls........I live in a hotel.....and find paper plates easier that actual plates.....
The mix I'm listening to is all classical choral music, some secular but mostly liturgical ......neat thing is the video doesn't show the choir or a slide show but rather the vocal score, for many years one of my avocations was singing music of the Baroque period, and I would rehearse with a CD playing and the score on my lap.....wish I had had this resource then.....but still even though the voice is long gone, from age and essential tremors......I still hear the parts in my head....

(Mendelssohn: choral works)
Another hot day.....walked early as both places were already open, actually one of the two is 24/7......stopped of at "Dunklin' Donuts" for a breakfast sandwich and an apple fritter.......and except for a turn around the grounds here have been in the rest of the day which I have spend my time posting to Facebook, my blogs, playing some solitaire and online poker ( a free site....only game money changes hands)......also have been hacking away on my every growing list of bookmarks.....well more re-arranging.....did remove a few I don't use anymore....but truth be told added more new ones, then the old ones I removed......
When I was younger if I was concentrating on something you would almost have to hit me between the eyes with a big stick to get my attention.....as I get older I can be distracted, and think I did something and didn't........and have one of the following moments......"Where was I ? What was I doing? and WHY?".....got distracted thought I had done something went back later..and had not....oy vey......

(+78*F....sunny)
(Beethoven: "Christ on the Mount of Olives")
On May 9th, 1961, Newton N Minow, \chairmen of the FCC......declared Television programming as the "vast wasteland".......he was referring to the lack of educational TV.....and I freely admit I'm taking the statement out of it's original context, and from my personal point of view......so let's have at it.....
I am a resident of a hotel....and have been for over 7 years and 7 months......since I no longer drive......mostly for poor vision, but I have tactically chose a place to live in a small city, that has been my home for 50+  years, where all my needs can be taken care of within a 10 minute walk of my lodgings.....including my doc......but I have no control over my TV or WiFi feeds......the cost of which is included in my monthly rent......
But today I agree with calling TV the vast wasteland.......with the new cable service.....I have access to 60 channels of programming.....plus a guide channel.......and today save a movie I just finished watching on HBO, and coverage earlier on NBCSN of the Tour de France.......there is nothing to watch......well at least from my picky point of view......I am very thankful for YouTube......
(END RANT)
Another nice day, not so dang hot and humid, and a nice breeze......I live off the east end of Lake Ontario........and the cooling breeze in Summer is welcome, I don't quite have the same opinion of the lake effect snow that the same breeze brings in Winter.....but we must make compromises

( an NCIS rerun)
Another quite comfortable day ran tow different errands.....one for some Powerade, and my morning Ice Cream.......and later to the ATM for some "walking around" money......been vegging out the rest of the day with a little surfing the web, and binging on re-runs of "NCIS".......
I'm not a huge fan of drinking milk, but I love the products of milk.....yogurt, and cheese.....and of course Ice Cream.......I guess some of it comes from being not only a French Horn player as a youth but also a high tenor.....and milk tends to coat the vocal cords.......or at least that's the "Old Wives Tale" I based my choice on.......

(+78*F..sunny)
(My Mix YouTube)
Not quite as hot as it's been of late very nice day.....walked early....just a few things needed...basically have been in for the rest of the day......It's Tuesday......the ladies of housekeeping were in with the cleaning and fresh linens.....also they take pity on this grumpy,  gimpy, old man and do my laundry such as it is, never amounts to much.......have spent the rest of the day mostly online, multiple solitaire games, and some online free poker.....no real money changes hands......just "game" money......also watched a bit of the Tour de France......and decided to watch "Justice League"......with the death of Superman at the end of the last movie I was curious as how the contrived to bring him back......a tad hokey but what the hey........on the other hand with Gal Gadot, and Amy Adams in the cast it was entertaining.......I maybe older then dirt but they haven't nailed the lid over my head quite yet......

(+86*F.......fair......heat index +91*F)
( Best of Handel......Choral Work)
I'm tripping out on the best of Handel's choral works, age and essential tremor has taken my voice...once a very good liturgical high tenor voice, but still remember the parts and  enjoy that period of music......I've always said; "If it's Baroque don't fix it.....sing it"
Another hot day......but had a few errands to run, not that I'm not capable of running anymore, and went out before it got really hot..........heat  index was in the 90s today......but in December we had wind chills in the -30s........I try very hard to limit my time out in either of the 2 extremes......
I have spent quite a bit of time today sorting through my bookmarks.....mostly deleting those that are no longer valid.......and then one of these days I really should sort through my YouTube subscriptions.....there number has now hit 264.......I really should.....but knowing me I probably won't....and most probably add to them rather then subtract.........

Sunday, July 15, 2018

(15:39 UTC-4)
(+86^F.......sunny......)
( movie: "Contender)
Had been feeling as they say "under the weather" the last couple of days and hadn't been out and did need too pickup a couple of things.....first to Aldi and then to Dollar General.......basically in opposite directions......Aldi's  expansion starts this week and they will remain open for a couple of weeks and then close for a month or so before re-opening.......be only a slight inconvenience, a a bit more expensive doing all my food shopping at the place I used to shop..actually still shop for a couple of items....but over the next few weeks will stock of on things from Aldi that I have room to store........
So back to the walk, just need 3 things, all that should be refrigerated, and it being hot, and humid, rather then just pass by my lodgings as I normally would have done..stopped off and took care of my purchases.....and then put the back way to Dollar General.........because of the higher humidity today worked up a pretty good sweat......

Saturday, July 14, 2018

(09:41 UTC-4)
(+77*F......mostly cloudy......)
("Law & Order" re-runs)
Not a bad day weather, a little cooler, but cloudy, and higher humidity then usual....but a nice day none the last.......probably a nice day for a walk......however I've got a minor cold, sore throat, post nasal drip......plus for the first time in awhile my knees are singing a audible dirge.....luckily I took care of all pressing business and shopping I needed to do yesterday.....so am planning a quiet day.......
Two of the cable networks get are running "Harry Potter" marathons this weekend......but except for the first one I really don't find them very entertaining......so I'll skip that one......and not much else to watch on the "boob tube" today.....so probably surf the net, and play some online games......

( Tour de France....on NBCSN )
Took a walk earlier, wanted a cup of ice cream,, and a bottle of Gatorade, but saw that instead of a buck plus tax for 32 oz's of Gatorade......I could get Powerade...same size bottle for 65 cents......yeah I known a grand saving of 35 cents, actually 38 cents if you factor in sales tax....I come from a long line of penny pinchers ....by buying used or off brands my golf bag and 14 clubs came to about 400$ as opposed to 20K plus dollars for named brand equipment.......actually did have a Titlist 4 wood, which I got for 5$ out of a barrel at a pro shop.........took a lot of heat from the players with the high price clubs....until I beat them regularly.......

(John Wayne movie "Hellfighters")
Nice day and needed a few things so walked earlier when it was still in the 70s.....but still managed to work up a nice sweat.....gladt I was pro-active and turned the AC on in my rooms before I left......
I've mentioned before the fact that crossing the street I live on can be an adventure......even in the cross walk and even with the walk light......well I had a close one again to day......left turn light comes on when the cross walk light does......so I saw the small SUV at the light from a side street.....no turn signal on so I assumed the car was going across not turning thru the crosswalk.......so all of sudden there it was, I stopped the SUV stopped, and we both went on are merry way......the only differnt thing was the SUV was a city police  vehicle.......dang if any body knew the traffic laws pertaining to crosswalks you'd think a policeman would .......oy vey......

Been a very lazy day, from my view point, I have my good days, and my not so good days, but today wasn't really either.....just one of those days when my get up and go, got up and went, and left me in my rooms......nearly fell asleep trying to watch the World Cup game.....
I've been looking for some coasters to put under glasses of cold liquid...with no luck..was in the thrift store looking for something completely different and happen to look at the shelve of bit and pieces.....so I now have my coasters
I always get a charge out of  it  when peeps...."I looked all over for my ( insert what ever) and found them in the last place I looked".....I what so bad to say of course you found them in the last place you looked, after all after you found (what ever)......you quit looking......oy vey

( acappella gospel mix)
As much as I love the liturgical music of the Baroque period......sang with different choirs and the local choral society as a high tenor, and loved that style, but for it's pure simplicity I love the acappella style....particularly with gospel music, or certain pieces of what is know as "contemporary  christian music"......have sung with several groups in that style as well......
A pleasant day howbeit  warmer then the last  two days but a nice breeze and quite comfortable for my morning walk to a local outlet store.....if they got  it.....they got it at a great price.....and spent the rest of the day watching a little TV, and a bunch of time online......mostly playing solitaire......but also keeping up with Facebook.......and some online poker.....a free site...no funds change hands.....just faux money.......

Another pleasant day, walked a couple of times, but spent most of the day watching the last of the quarter finals of the World Cup.......with the USA not qualifying......as we used to say when I was growing up.....I don't really have in that hunt......but enjoy watching the game that I played in college many years ago........

Weather finally broke and a very pleasant day, if a tad on the windy side......is predicted to be in the 70s tomorrow and then back to the heat and humidity.......never had the AC on all day........
Watch the 2 quarter final games played today in the World Cup.......really wasn't rooting as it were for either side in the 2 match ups.....actually with the USA not in it, i reverted to the land of my forebears and Germany......what can I say......rats

I've been in my rooms the past 3 days avoiding the heat wave outside, preferring my rooms and my AC.....but my frig was getting empty....so I braved the weather, twice, and now have an ample supply of veggies, and some frozen dinners, also got some nice cherries, Gatorade, and some swimming shorts.....I've never have taken advantage of the pool which is at my disposal, but this dang heat may drive me to it....... The WiFi was out again for about 24 hours and has only been back on for the last couple of hours

( a "NCIS" rerun on USA)
Been a very quiet day, a very hot humid day, and I stayed in all day, and according to the weather forecast, it's going to be even hotter tomorrow, but rain is predicted for early Friday morning, and the temperature is predicted to be in the mid-70s.......and I have fresh food thru Friday, a cupboard of canned food, and there is always delivery, so will plan to walk after the rain ends on Friday.....

("Hornblower-4)
Been in almost all day enjoying the World Cup and my AC.......not in an particular order.....did stick my nose outside once as it were...considering a few stops I need to do before the weekend and decided to forget about it.......as to the England vs Columbia match.....was that football or pro wrestling.....plus I haven't see so much "flopping" since the last time I saw fish out of water.....I thought that the ref lost complete control of the match, check that I'm not sure he ever had control.......I wonder if the rough play that followed the "take down" of Kane in the penalty area..had drawn a red card not a yellow IMHO the foul deserved red.........I liked the final result, but not the game in general.....

Actually the present temperature  is cooler ( if 82*F can be called cool) then it was mid-day...up in the mid 90s......walked just a while ago.......would rather be in my rooms which are a very comfortable 70.....but there are things that must be done.....Friday thru Sunday highs will be in the mid-70s.....and a predicted AM thunder storm on Friday......which should cut the humidity
One of the advantages with the new TV provider is the USA network is one of the channels we didn't have after the last change......"NCIS"  & "Law & Order-SVU" even reruns are 2 of my favorite shows.......

In one of my recent posts I made comments about the fact that lately the vast majority of my spam has been from woman with questionable intend......and where were the honest Nigerians when you needed one........and for my sins I received a spam email.......just a man's name......and something about my new ATM card.......so I searched the surname........oops......country of origin.......you guessed it.......Nigeria...Beware they seem to be at it again.........
