Snow is forecast for Sunday afternoon through into mid-day Monday..maybe a max accumulation of 6" or so..but the high temperature both days is in the mid-30s F..but I noticed today when I took a walk just after 14:00 that the ground after the cold the last few days is frozen..at least the first couple of inches so at least some of the snow probably will accumulate on the ground..but Winter does come early in the Northcountry..
Decided to take a late afternoon/early evening walk now during the Summer time that's usually between 17:00 & 18:00...but the sunset today was at 16:27:19..so the late afternoon/early evening walk was rescheduled for just after 14:00..just 9 hours and 9 minutes of sunlight today..and growing shorter everyday..walk up to the convenience store..had thought about going there from Price Chopper yesterday..just a short detour on the way home..but when I changed my plans and added Aldi to yesterdays walk..I went in the other direction..could have waited to early next week but with the snow forecast decided to do it today..came back by way of the lobby and got my daily toffee coffee..
The hotel part of the facility I live in has been a "zoo" the last couple of day's..fully booked with the horde of bargain hunters and the sales going on at the mall and the plazas in the area..mostly Canadian shoppers..we're just 30 mils or so from Canada..straight down I-81 [part of the interstate highway system [link]]..and if they stay in the US for 48 hours they can take 400$ worth of merchandise back to Canada duty-free..part of the NAFTA accords..
Just a few things left to attend to so will say my good-nights..

The facility I live in is having trouble with the WiFi..and is being worked on..so this posting may be very short..interrupted..and finish sometime later..
Because of all the "Black Friday Sales" which continue through the weekend..[start of the Christmas shopping season]..which because of the late date for The Thanksgiving celebration the "season" is 6 days shorter than last year..Thanksgiving by federal law is always celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November [in the USA]..the hotel that the residence building that I live in is booked solid for the weekend..just pretty lousy timing for WiFi issues..
It was my original intent to walk just to Price Chopper this morning and then to Aldi tomorrow..all I really needed was horseradish root..and some garlic..and a baguette..which they didn't have..oy vey or any rolls I like..but spotted some nice small potatoes..and got a bottle of Adobo spice [ah another new word for the spell-check dictionary]..was almost out..found some in other stores but all I had found so far had Sazon added [ that's two new words to the dictionary in the same run on sentence]..now I have Sazon and use it but not every time I use the Adobo..found the same brand I've been using and was very happy with [Goya]..besides I had forgot to use my built up value card refund earlier in the week and it disappears at the end of the month..so extended the walk to Aldi..and got what I had intended to buy there tomorrow and some rolls as well..
Still have a few things to attend to both on and off line so good night to  you all..

If you lived in the Northcountry as I do you would be used to the every changing weather forecasts..because of the potential of change based on the fact that Lake Ontario is less than 20 miles to the west of where I live and the slightest change in the wind direction can be a major factor in our weather..we live by the adage "If you don't like the weather..wait 15 minutes..and it could change"..now whether that change will be for the better or the worse..flip a coin and call it in the air..
Despite what I wrote last night..I decided to brave the high winds..needed bananas..or rather I probably was bananas to walk to day..but except for a close in-counter of the driver who obviously either didn't see me..was in a hurry..and his/her cellphone..or forgot that a pedestrian under New York State traffic code..when in a crosswalk with the "walk light" has the right-of-way..but I was just under 1/2 way across when I saw him/her coming..so had time to evade..but they chopped the corner..and it was closer than what I find comfortable..oy vey...

It was actually quite a nice day for this time of year..most of the day it was partly sunny and temperatures were in the mid to upper 30s F..but for a late Autumn day here in the Northcountry of New York State..it's pretty normal weather..took my usual walk to Big Lots..they didn't have the one spice I was looking for but they did have a jar of Harissa a Moroccan spice I have wanted to try..and a few other items I typically get there..so since it was on my way back to my rooms to see if Aldi had it..oops..dried mustard power..they didn't but they did have ground clove..which I also have wanted to try..and while there got another wedge of sheep's milk cheese..and just before dark..[sunset today was at 16:33:50 UTC-5]..checked at Ollie's they didn't have the spice either..but ended up with a bag of good dark chocolate candy..and a pair of copper infused gloves..my hands have been stiff and sore of late..probably to much mouse & keyboard action..early days but me thinks they might be helping a little..and a stop at Dollar General for a bottle of Powerade zero sugar..good hydration is an important element of dealing with the cold weather..
A cartoon posted on "The Farthest Side" today reminded me of an incident that occurred many years ago..Summer of 1972..I was working the 4 pm to 12:20 am shift at the plant and lived north of the city..on my way home up US 11..there was a long 45 mph speed zone..I was driving a '65 VW bug..and a car was tailgating me with the high beams on..I drove that road everyday so knew there was a spot I could pull off and let the other car..I was doing maybe 43 mph..so I used my turn signal and pulled off and park..at that point..the flashing lights went off and he pulled in front of me..cutting me off..dang..I knew what was happening..he was trying to get me to speed up so he could give me a ticket..I was tired and in no mood to put up with this nonsense.. so this county cop..comes back to the card..[I had long hair and wearing an American Flag sweatshirt]..and he says "License and Registration"..said 1.."May I have your name and badge number..Sir" a reasonable request which by law he must give if asked..he replied "Why"..said I "because I intend to make a citizens arrest and charge you with tailgating with you high beams on"..after a brief pause.."Well you can go"..oy vey..

The weather was not good today..a little snow..a little rain..a little freezing rain..the dreaded "winter mix"..but thankfully no  was bad as was predicted..was planing on walking tomorrow and may still..but  will check conditions and since the forecast for Sunday is a tad warmer my wait until then..
Have spent the day as I often do but spent a couple of hours watch a flick on FX..Now You See Me I've seen a few times but enjoy it..but as often is the situation..there is a sequel..which frankly I can't tolerate..same thing with Pitch Perfect liked the first and can't stand the sequels..and don't get me started on the rash of remakes of some of the older classic flicks..
But  the end of the day is upon me..still have to do day-end on "Trollie's Game Room"..another look in at the FB group "The Farthest Side"..were I'm a moderator..we are approaching 35K members..and check my emails..nite all..

[snow and winter mix forecast for most of tomorrow..temperature in the lower 30's F]
[Now Playing:["The Best of Gershwin"]]..
The forecast for tomorrow had changed..when I looked last night..it was predicted to be a tad warmer and more rain than snow..but now looks like it will be winter mix..now I hadn't intended to venture out tomorrow but thought that if we got the rain originally predicted the sidewalks would be clear Saturday so decided to wait and take the "long walk"..T J Maxx..Price Chopper..Aldi..and maybe Big Lots..but with the conditions in doubt..decided to walk today to Price Chopper and T J Maxx..got some assorted peppers, a parsnip or two..a nice size horseradish root..a couple of bottles of what I call "21st Century Kool Aid"..little squeeze bottles with fruit flavoring for water..and a pre-packed meal of egg plant pram..and up to T J Maxx..a bottle of mixed pepper corns.. and another bottle of dry shallots..the sidewalks were a mess..in spots I don't think that any effort has been made to clear them..so fortunately the traffic was light and I spent most of the walk on the side of the street..I was hoping that if we got the rain original predicted that my short cut to the plaza with Ollie's, Dollar General & "The Thrift Store" would be open..have to wait and see until Saturday..if so will probably go there Saturday PM..Aldi in the morning..if not and I  have to go the long way..maybe Sunday..
Except for the hour I was out this morning have spent the day quietly as is my custom..just  the usually online activities..still a few things to do before I that my rest..nite all...[19:49]..just found this Winter Weather Advisory in my FB news feed...I live in Jefferson County...oy vey..[pix best viewed if you open it in a new window]

[Now Playing: Bach "The Art of the Fugue" [listen]]..
I get the updated from the National Weather Service regional office in Buffalo NY  to my FB news-feed..the most the overnight lows for the cities in the region..ours last night was -1*F..[-18.3*C]..now sub-zero temperatures are really no big deal in these parts in late December or January..several years we had a January that the temperatures were below 0*F at some point during all 31 days of the month..and my memory is a little fuzzy on this but it never was above 0*F for 11 or 12 straight days..Watertown is about 70 miles north of Syracuse NY..in January of '95 we took my daughter to Syracuse for a music audition..it was -25*F..and sunny..about half way there we went through a patch of very unsettled weather..when we got to Syracuse it was mid-40's F and raining lightly..when we returned in the late afternoon..in Syracuse still mid-30's F but the rain had stopped..same patch of unsettled weather..and when we got to Watertown it was still sunny and had warmed up to -15* F..true story..but sub-zero temperatures in November..that's "a different kettle of fish"[link]..it does happen but it is rare..
Because of the cold weather today and the questionable sidewalk conditions have spent the day in my rooms..no pressing need to walk so I didn't..but will either venture out tomorrow or wait to Saturday after the Friday rains have cleared the sidewalks and hopefully my short cuts..
Have the last chip drop on the free poker site I play on in a little over 40 minutes..and then time to close book on my online day..maybe a late snack and of to bed..nite all..

I did some thing today that in retrospect was pretty dang stupid..and the fact that except for the fact that my left knee has been complaining to me a little..i got away with it..it didn't snow near as much as predicted..apparently the first predictions were that the winds would be out of the w/s/w..with means they come along the long axis of Lake Ontario and we in the Northcountry gets dumped on..the dread "Lake-Effect Snow" but apparently the winds shift to the w/n/w and across the short axis..rather than hitting the eastern shore of the Lake, it hit the  southern shore..Rochester/Syracuse area..anyways we got maybe 3 or 4 inches of snow...but it was also quite cold..now I'm starting my 10 Winter living where I do..mostly plazas..big box stores..fast food  restaurants..and almost everyone drives..and it usually takes at least 24 hours before all the sidewalks are passable..I know this all to well..besides I really had no good reason to walk anyways..until Thursday..when the  temperatures will be above freezing for the first time in a few days..however..I hadn't been outside since Saturday..and the thought of staying in for 4 days was overwhelming..and despite my better judgement..assuming I actually have better judgement..I took the short walk to Aldi..and as I had expected the sidewalks were a mess..but the street was wet but clear..I walked in the street  to the crosswalk..but was walking "against traffic" so I could see what was coming..got to the crosswalk but the sidewalk was so bad I couldn't get to the button to engage the walk light..but know the lights  very well and walked when it was safe..got what I needed..or rather what I would have needed if I walked Thursday..same deal on the walk light on the way back but traffic was light..but  didn't dare walk in the street with traffic..not the way peeps drive in this area..in the spring I was walking in the cross walk with the walk light..and when the car finally stopped I had a hand on the hood of an "econobox " trying to remember my best matador ole move..window rolls down..and this rather ditzy female millennial says to me "I'm sorry I didn't see you"..oy vey..I may not be that big..but it was broad daylight..probably on a smart phone..I trudged through the shoveled sidewalk..and that's when my left knee starting singing it's sad song..seems to ok now but will rub it with icy/hot before bed time..speaking of which..things to do before I sleep..nite all..[dang..another novella]..

It's been snowing now for a few hours and so far we have only gotten a couple of inches of snow but more is expected..have put a copy of the "Winter Weather Warning" from the National Weather Service in the footer..this is really no big deal other than it is the first "real" storm of the Winter..oops I mean late Autumn..according to the calendar Winter  doesn't officially begin until December 21st @23:19 UTC-5..but apparently up here in the Northcountry of New York State..the weather doesn't have a calendar..or just ignores it..
Have been in my rooms for the 2nd straight day..and probably won't venture outside tomorrow either..because I don't drive anymore and walk everywhere..and with experience in this area..know that it usual takes about 24 hours for the sidewalks to get cleared properly..in fact by local ordinance the property owners have 24 hours to clear the  sidewalks from the end of the storm..besides my Winter..oops late Autumn pantry is full..and if I have the need or desire to "stretch my legs"..there are some long hallways here that I can and often do use for that purpose..there are to different adages locals use to describe the seasons up here..1] "We have two seasons here..Winter & Construction:..or..2] "We have 3 seasons..Winter..Just was Winter..& Soon will be Winter"..but except for 9 semesters of college [all in the northeastern USA]..I've spent my whole life either in the lee of Lake Erie [Buffalo NY area] or up here in the lee of Lake Ontario..so I  know how to deal with Old Man Winter..as I get older myself..don't particularly like him very much..but I can handle it..still things to deal with before I call it a "day"..nite all..

I never put on my outdoor shoes all day..just lounged around in my "dorm shoes"..aka: slippers..but to think about "dorm shoes" and was reminded of when I was in college as a freshman I lived in a dorm..and to help keep the floors clean each of us had a spot in the shoe rack..and were expect to change our outdoor shoes when we came in and exchange them for our "dorm shoes"..well we had an RA [resident assistant] that was a real pain in the tuckus..and I had acquires some pull string firecrackers [see pic in the footer]..and we'd put a tack on each end of the string..push one in the shelf in his slot in the shoe rack and the other in the heal of his shoe..revenge is best served with a loud bang..he never did figure out who was doing it..I was a freshman in college in 1966 so am quite sure that the statues of limitations has run out..I think I've mentioned before that I was a bit of a prankster in my youth..nite all..

Been an interesting day..took a walk this morning first to the ATM to  withdraw some "walking around" money..something I do every 10 days or so..and then to Aldi..was still below freezing but the sidewalks were reasonable seeing we only got a couple of inches of snow..as to the shopping I did some thing I almost never do..remembered the list..got everything on the list..and nothing else..mid-afternoon walked to Ollie's and Dollar General..basically to look and get a bottle of dish-washing detergent..well..between the two stores ended up spending the better part of a 20$..oy vey..but found something I'd been looking for for quite awhile..a bread knife..at Ollie's and Dollar General they finally got in a size of paper plates I've been looking for..and a couple of items for my "winter  pantry"..by the time I walked it was above freezing and the Sun was out..so most of the snow was melted..
When I got back this morning I was hungry..and had just a few minutes before a movie started "The Bourne Ultimatum"..so flip the mid-day meal..heated up a pre-prepared meal..and then this evening made my usual frittata..may decided to do that more often..
I'm very picky about what gets posted to my FB timeline..I've posted more than once asking peeps not to post to my timeline..if they see something they think I'd might like..tag me to it..send me a link through messenger..and everyone save one has complied..but one peep  just keeps truckin'..they did it again last night but before I saw it others had commented so reluctantly I left  it..but they did again tonight..so I deleted both and "snoozed" the individual for 30 days..hate to do that..but I really dislike that..although tis person only posts puns and such..which they think I'd like..everyone of which I've seen before and chose not to post it..but the really reason I'm picky is I have FB friends on both sides of the political debate..and I almost never post anything political..and I don't want a "flame war" on my timeline..still things to do before I sleep..nite all..

Was a cold day..and there was about an inch of snow cover..normally I would have walked today if necessary but as the weather is fine for tomorrow..and I had no pressing need to do any shopping..do need to stop at the ATM sometime this weekend to withdraw some "walking around money" from my checking account..was going to do that today..but with the snow cover I was concerned that the footing would be a little dicey..normally not a serious concern..I have balance issues periodically due to my essential tremors..and my balance has been shaky at best today..so unlike most times I let my better judgement prevail and stayed in my rooms all day..except for to trips to the lobby..but by tomorrow the sidewalks should be clear..although I probably have to go the long way around to things as my short-cuts maybe impassable..
I flipped the script as it were meal wise today..normally I eat my main meal of the day around mid-day..but got involved with things..got hungry and just made a sandwich which I could do quickly..and some chips [usually a supper thing with me]..and made my egg white frittata just a couple of hours ago..have given so thought about making that switch but at this point probably will usually keep the usual order..

I walked just before 09:00 this morning..needed to make stops at both at Price Chopper and the convenience store..just a few things that could have waited until tomorrow or Saturday but decided to do it today..temperature was in the mid-30's F..which compared to what lies a head really isn't that cold..but my first cold weather walk of the season..decided I didn't need the heavy cold weather gear..left the Carhart jacket and lined sweat pants in the closet..just put on one of my heavier hoodies and my lined flannel shirt over my indoor clothes..and a wool hat..and wore my winter shoes..they have tread on them that an off-road tire would be envious of..the shoes are waterproof..but low cuts..not fit for trudging through deep snow..but I can't wear any type of "high cut" shoe or boot..when I played soccer years ago I had the misfortune of straining one of my Achilles tendons and it complains very loudly even to this day if I dare put a high cut shoe or boot on it..it had just started snowing lightly..just tiny grains of snow when I  got to Price Chopper..a couple of different peppers and a baby egg plant..but I always check out the international food section..love finding some thing unique.something I've never tried..but found something in the Italian section..now you can find so called Romano cheese everywhere..but if you look at the ingredients it's made with cows milk..and if you can find the really stuff..Pecorino Romano [made with sheep's milk]..it's very expensive..but found a container of grated Pecorino Romano on the shelf..[a good brand "Cora"]..more expensive than the cow's milk variety..but..bought a jar and it's wonderful..will still use the other..but will save the "real" cheese for special occasions..[had to teach spell check that Pecorino is spelled correctly..oy vey][got a very early start this morning before 05:00..and just had to re-enter my WiFi password]..by the time I left Price Chopper it was snowing harder..but not a lot more..we got maybe an inch of accumulation..but the wind was out of the north/north/west..and most of the way back to my rooms was walking into the wind..but was warm and comfortable..and actually enjoyed the walk very much..
I still have a few things to deal with this evening on-line..a late chip drop on the line game I play in about an hour..and the usual other things..so will bid you a good night..

When I walk this morning to Aldi for the usual food stuffs..it was quite windy..temperatures in the lower 40's F..and a very bitter, biting wind..and the weather appears to be turning colder..I always re-act poorly physically to the weather when it's unsettle..cool one day, warm the next and :bouncing between the two extremes..if it's got to be cold..then let it be cold..after living almost most of my 72 years either in the Buffalo NYS area or up here in the Northcountry of NYS [save for 9 semesters of college all  of which were in the northeastern USA]..I know how to deal with Winter..mind you I said I know how to deal with it..not that I enjoy it..but it's what I known..
As Winter approaches I'm reminded of years ago the mechanic at the garage I took my car[s] to when asked if he had heard how much snow was predicted in an up coming storm would always reply.."a trace to 8 feet"..but you get so used to it after many Winters that we practically ignore any snow fall under a foot..I'm also reminded of a store clerk [obviously from the south..probably an army wife who's husband was posted to Fort Drum [link]]..saw it snowing lightly..and thought it was a blizzard..I just shook my head and had to tell her she hadn't see nothing yet..
Besides the morning walk have spent a quiet day..and I dearly like and enjoy quiet..stress free days..for many years I ran the shipping/receiving/warehousing departments of a small local factory..plus was responsible for inventory/inventory control..and order planning not only for my departments but also the majority of the raw materials for the production department..so high stress days and long hours were my constant companion..but those days are thankfully behind me..never to return [knock wood [link]]..

I guess for whatever reason I slept as much as I did last night feel decent today..walked twice..first mid-morning..just was the overnight rain was abating..to Big Lots..just some black sea salt. a jar of caper berries, some basil, and 2 bottles of prickly pear soda..and then about 15:30 to Ollie's..some beef jerky, and a cheese knife..a stop at the Thrift Store..got a box grater..and discovered that like Big Lots they have a senior discount on Tuesday..will have to remember that..and a stop at Dollar General for a jug of veggie juice..and on my the way back to my rooms encountered a very biting bitter wind..oy vey..winter is just around the corner at least here in the Northcountry of old New York State..have a late drop on the live poker game I play [due to my late start this AM] and then off to bed..nite all

Tomorrow being Tuesday it's the day I generally walk to Big Lots to take advantage of the 10% senior discount offered on that day..but usual walk there mid-morning..and since the weather prediction is for rain through mid-afternoon will decide tomorrow whether I"ll go or not..

[Now Playing: ["Hec Ramsey"[pilot]]]..
It was a very wet and damp couple of days until mid-morning when the rain ceased..but the winds until around 14:00 were in excess of 29 mph. and gusts over 30 mph..even after the decreased the winds were in the high teens..
I had intended to walk after the winds had subsided some what..but thought better of it..earlier in the day while preparing my mid-day meal I turned and reached for something and if I hadn't brace myself on the table I was working at..I probably ended up on my tuckus..because of my essential tremors..I experience random balance issues..knew I'd might have trouble in the high winds earlier but after the episode I had thought better of it and stayed in again today..
According to the forecast temperatures for the next 2 week daytime highs in the mid-40's F and overnight lows as low as mid-20's F..snow showers are possible for about 8 of then next 14 days..but winter has a habit of coming early in the "Northcountry of New York State"..
Just a typical day for me except for the fact that I didn't take my usual couple of walks..as well has my concern about my balance issues in the high winds..because of the rain, dampness and low barometric pressure my right knee has been "talking" to me all day..and what it had to say is never pleasant..of course I can only blame myself for the condition my knees, feet, one hip, both shoulders, and back are in..between playing sport with a bit too much enthusiasm when younger..35+ years spent on a cement factory floor, and many hours driving forklift..plus I have been know from time to time being somewhat of a klutz..and have been know to attempt to do somethings that in retrospect probably weren't something I should have done..
A few more things to attend to before I lay me down to sleep..nite all..
[[Note]: tomorrow's post I will still list the time as "UTC-4"..but starting Sunday it will be listed as "UTC-5"..I"m not moving..Daylight Savings Time [link] ends at 02:00 AM Sunday morning]
