   It had been my intent to stay pretty much in my rooms most of the day..I had gone to bed just before 20:00 and everything was normal..but about 21:00 awoke and was quite chilled..room was normal temperature I was just cold..now I normally just sleep in my underwear and am fine..but resorted to a hoodie..sweat pants & heavy socks..took awhile to feel warmer but except for a couple of interruptions slept well the rest of the night and never surfaces for good until well after 05:00..but felt fine most of the day a and by mid-afternoon had every thing well in hand..now when I walked yesterday because my right knee was complaining I didn't go to Ollie's but just Dollar General..ergo..off to Ollie's..while checking my budget before hand..had an odd 6 dollars in my "mad money" and decided to take that alone..a container of ground cloves..a package of granola bars..a tin of danish butter cookies & a box of thin mints..went up to checkout and danged if the bill wasn't exactly 6 dollars..I probably couldn't do that  again if I tried..../....Have to remember to re-set the clock by my bed before I go to sleep tonight as the USA is going off Daylight Savings Time@02:00[UTC-4] to Standard Time[UTC-5]..don't have to worry about the computer clock..that usually takes care of its' self..../....a couple more things to button up and a movie to watch..ergo..nite all..../....

   It has been a very chilly day here in the old Northcountry of NYS..windchills have been in the mid to lower 20s all day..but did need to take the short walk down the hill to Dollar General..a six pack of 7.5 oz. Sprite soft drink..a jug of tomato juice..2 packages of snicker doddle cookies and a package of pens..the windchill was 22*F when I walked with a brisk breeze out of the north at that point..bundled up but just a hoodie and my lined flannel shirt..my heaviest sweat pants..even dug out my thermal long johns..probably won't have needed it all but earlier in the day while sitting at my computer experienced a very sharp pain in my right knee..been there..have had it happen before..and immediately took the precaution of applying a generous amount of a topical analgesic..and it felt a lot better and decided I could take the planned walk..but took it slow...../....Have no plans for tomorrow except for it to be just my usual routine day..it had been my plan yesterday to stay up a little later than/usual so as to make the transition back to Standard Time easier..was sitting in my recliner watching "Beat Bobby Flay"..almost dozed off a couple of times and was in bed before 20:00..well the best laid plans of mice & men often come to naught..../.....still a couple of tasks ahead..including a hot shower to help relax that right knee of mine..and I sure a light meal is calling me as well..ergo..nite all....

   Originally we were to get some rain this afternoon thru mid evening..and I had been periodically checking the radar and the storm was coming out of the w/s/w quite a large storm and it looked like we were going to catch the northern edge of it..but except for a few sprinkles got almost nothing..bur when I  check the radar before posting here as I always do..the wind had shifted to westerly..and the storm went south of us..Friday's weather is going to be on the cold side..however nothing I haven't dealt with before..except for nine semesters of college I have spent the last 54 years plus in the Northcountry and grew up to the east of Buffalo NY in a rural area so cold/snow are not new to me..although I must admit that as I get older I don't handle either as easily as I once did..in the mid-70s we had the only day I can't remember that the entire small city I live in basically shutdown for a day because of the cold..temperature was -55*F with 55 mph winds..windchill was in excess of -100*F..and frostbite 7/or hypothermia could occur in under a minute..the next morning I got in my 1972 Ford Pinto..with a 1600 cc German built engine...took awhile until all for pistons fired but off I went and was one of the few peeps who actually got to work..will probably bundle up tomorrow and take the short walk down to Dollar General..just need a few things..../....Did take my walk to Aldi this morning around 09:00..mid-40's F and not a bad day to walk atall..the usual fare save for a bottle of red wine vinegar..I have malt vinegar and balsamic but wanted the red as well..they didn't have the mixed cold-cuts I was seeking but when looking thru the sliced meats and cheeses saw they had a wedge of my favorite cheese..a blue Stilton..almost bought two..../....Two of my live games are still down so have had some extra time on my hand..episodes of "NCIS".."Treehouse Masters" & "Beat Bobby Flay"..have had a very enjoyable day..but still a couple of things to deal with..ergo..nite all.....

   I was a very lazy lad this morning..and never rolled out of bed until just after 05:00..but as I mentioned below somewhere the USA is going off Daylight Savings Time at 02:00 Sunday and we set out clocks back the 1 hour that we set them forward on March 8th..so I'm not that concerned..I was thinking of letting it slide towards 05:00 the end of this week so that once we set the clocks back I'd be back to my accustomed 04:00..apparently maybe because of my double walk yesterday my body "decide" to take care of that problem..../....although the temperature is to warm up a little over the weekend the temperature for the next two days will be turning colder..and with the predicted winds for Friday at around 10 mph..I assume that the windchill for Friday will be in the lower 20s or maybe the upper teens..ergo..the walk to Aldi's that I had been trying to decided if I would walk either Thursday or Friday the forecast has made that for me..tomorrow it will be..../....except for a brief walk thru the parking lot to the lobby for my afternoon coffee have spent the rest of the day in my "fortress of solitude"..Wednesday is the day that the USA network shows re-runs of NCIS episodes from 08:00 thru 19:00..and after looking at the schedule realized that the only one I really cared to watch was on at 09:00 so took a break from my online gaming and watched the episode while eating my 1st meal..../....Two of my live games are still down so things have gotten done soon than/usual..../....One of the several things I like about living in a hotel is that I don't have to take any part in the whole deal around Halloween..including have little peeps at my door yelling "Trick or Treat"..when I was living alone before I sold the house..I would turn off the lights except in the room I had my computer in and pretended not to be home..there had been incidents of peeps who had been adulterating candy/apples with foreign substances and even razor blades..and an old man living alone might be accused..not that I would ever do such a thing..but..../....one or two things left to do..ergo..nite all....

   Due to the fact that two of the three live games I play are still done..re-arranged the day a little..stopped play just before 08:00 to prepare my first meal and rather than eat it at the computer as/usual decided to eat while watching an episode of NCIS on the USA network..the one that introduced the re-occurring character Abigail Borin..a CGIS agent..one I enjoy..and when that was over I decided to take the walk to Price Chopper I had been planning..Worcestershire sauce..fresh garlic & shallots..4 burritos..2 tins of anchovies..a piece of horseradish root..and a package of nice black angus beef..and back to my rooms and had now soon sat down to play "Crescent" solitaire..only of my favorite games and one I've played probably the most games of over the last few years when I heard the knock on my door announcing the scheduled Tuesday arrival..do to what I was told was a family issue it's been two weeks so it took  them a little longer than/usual but have been assured that it resume to the weekly schedule..later in the day when checking my pantry and supplies I remember that I had been thinking about a stop at the convenience store to pick up a tube of my chew..and it had completely slipped my mind..dummkopf..checked the radar and had enough time to take the walk again..and rather than cross Arsenal to Price Chopper..crossed Western Boulevard to the convenience and got back to my rooms before the rain began..except maybe during the rain it will warm up a little but so far today it's never been out of the 30s..../....With today's walks completed next penciled in walk is for Thursday or Friday to Aldi on quest for the wild bananas..depending on  the weather..forecast is for rain in the morning hours tomorrow and then clear thru Saturday..../...still one or two things to button up for the day and a movie on@17:30 that I'd like to watch..ergo..nite all....

   I over slept this morning..never "rolling out" of bed until nearly 04:45..now that may not be a bad thing atall..at 02:00 on November 1st..we will be going off Daylight Savings Time as the USA goes back to Standard Time..We Spring forward an hour & Fall back an hour..so my /usual wake-up time around 04:00 will become 03:00..and I am tying to get that back to 04:00 once the clocks change..so after Saturday rather then listing my time as UTC-4..will revert to UTC-5..with out moving..../....So I logged on to take my first drops of the day on my three live games and neither Poker or Blackjack-21 would load..but Video Poker Live did..now Poker has a history of disappearing from time to time..but not Blackjack-21..now a couple of times recently during the FB format change none of the three would load but that was a FB issue..what bothers me is that the two that won't load are "sister games"..so that gives me some pause..../....The rest of the day has run quite smoothly but because of the time I didn't spend on the down games have not only gotten all of my other normal tasks down in record time..so as mentioned above have spent time on other things..../....although the rains have ceased now..it has been raining most of the day and except for two trips to the lobby..once this morning to pickup a few things from the breakfast buffet..and this afternoon for my afternoon coffee [have switch back to regular rather then the toffee coffee of old]..&..used the walk to pay my November rent..it is my habit to always take care of that task earlier then is required..I dislike being "in debt" as it were to anyone..if I can't afford it..I don't buy it..I have long ago paid off and destroyed my "credit cards" and taken the vow never to be in debt again ..the Good Lord willing...as of yesterday I have been sober for three years..and intend to stay that way as well..../....few things to attend to today than /usual..but still one or two..ergo..nite all....

   I slept fairly well last night and with the minor issue I had experienced yesterday decided to walk to Aldi & Big Lots today..when I checked  the weather just after 04:00 the temperature was a balmy +32*F...I had a block of time just before 09:00 and checked the temperature..up to +35*F..and I decided to try again about 11:00..now when I was working up here in the Northcountry my job sometimes required me to be outside in the winter when with the windchill  the temperature was -40*F..two things are important..I had my Carhart winter clothes & I was getting paid very well..I still have my Carharts but I ain't getting paid before..ergo..if the either the actually temperature or the windchill is below 0*F in winter..I don't walk..and while today was nowhere near that cold..as the first really cold day of the season I'm not accustomed to it yet..and while I do usually try to get to Aldi around 09:00 on Sunday to avoid the heavy crowds that descend on it between 11:00 & 19:00 on Sunday..felt the wait was worth it..a hoodie..a lined flannel shirt..a neck scarf..and a wool hat and I was quite comfortable when I walk just before 11:00..stopped at Big Lots..and in a rare occurrence found nothing I wanted..then up to Aldi..just the usual fare except a very nice wedge of cheese..a combination of sheep's & goat's milk..and back to my rooms and just an hour or so ago I walked to Ollie's..even a rarer trip there with no purchases..and Dollar General..4 pocket cherry pies..a bottle of Gatorade Zero..a jug of tomato juice and a bag of cheddar popcorn..and back to my rooms to prepare for the end of my day..still just a few things to do..and a light meal to attend to..../....as it is predicted to rain for most if not all of the daylight hours tomorrow will be content to stay warm and dry in my "fortress of solitude"...../....nite all....

   I awoke in the middle of the night with a minor issue in my lower GI tract..controllable..but unpleasant..and although it has improved throughout the day I though it wise because with the restrictions in place because of the CV-19 deal none of the public bathroom facilities are open to not that even  the short walk yo Ollie's and Dollar General that I had planned for today..but feeling better this afternoon decided to talk a shorter walk around the grounds here and maybe get a coffee..so got ready but was thinking about anything but the walk..stepped out door and then realized I didn't have my key-card..dummkopf..so up to the lobby to get new cards and while I got my new key-cards..also picked up my statement for my main debit card..now when I looked at my receipt from the withdrawal from  the ATM..it looked off..I thought the money I had moved to a CD was done last month and that maybe my SSI check that is direct deposited every third Tuesday had not come..but once I saw the balance I realized everything was okay..but with all the screw ups of late with my medicare..I guess I've been a tad paranoid when dealing with bureaucracy..besides it's not paranoia if they really are out to get you..../....had noted that TNT network was showing the 1984 original "Red Dawn" movie at noon today..now they had s\how the 2012 remake recently..from my POV pure trash..but enjoyed the original..ergo..I planned my day around the 2 hours of the movie from noon to 14:00..turned on the old boob tube..yup they advertised the original but were showing the re-make..oy vey..but it begs the question why to studios insist on remaking some of the great flicks the past and producing a very poor version..I loved the movie Midway(1976} with an all-star cast..and the 2019 remake stinks..haven't they ever heard the adage.."Leave well enough alone"..oy vey..[end rants]..../....Have otherwise had a very quiet..calm..and relaxing day..and if I'm feeling up to it will probably walk to Aldi tomorrow as rain is expected Monday..but have bananas thru Wednesday so if worse comes to worst Tuesday is also a possibility..and of course Aldi does deliver..../....just a few things left to complete the day..ergo..nite all....

   I slept reasonably well last night and got a pretty normal start to  the day and got almost every thing done a little early..now I had not intended to walk today..but did take the short walk up to the ATM for my "10 day walking around money"..../...have spent the day as I generally do online spending time playing a three live games..Poker..Blackjack & Video Poker [aka poker slots]..a Spade sim..and several Solitaire..some I've select for the pure entertainment..but others to kept my mind sharp and others to exercise my rather damaged hands..I have not been kind to them to say the least either occupationally or in sport..and they can be rather stiff and sore at times..among other things..when playing soccer in college we only had two goalies on the team so it was decided that we needed a field player who could fill the net in an emergency..if both got hurt &/or ejected in the same game..both had rather quick tempers..I got the nod..so I trained one day a week with keepers..taking my turn in the nets in practice one day..had a low hard slider to my right knew I couldn't catch it so I dove and had my extended fingers together to deflect the ball past the post and out of play..did just that but caught the 4x4 hardwood post with all 8 fingers and sprained both wrists..and they that is my hands tend to remind me of that event from time to time....so apparently I let out a blood curdling scream..and the coach & trainer came running..I was there with my hands under my armpits and insisted that before I looked at them they had to check the ground to see if I had knocked any of them off..sure felt like I had..needless to say they were a lovey combination of blank and blue for the next few days..but thankfully none were broken..../....but the end of the day approaches and as I have a few more things to accomplish..ergo..nite all....

   I had mentioned last night that because of the weather forecast for Saturday I had decided to walk to Aldi on Friday..but then when I looked this morning the forecast had changed and Saturday would have worked as well..then re-check my inventory of bananas [the controlling factor in when I shop for groceries and discovered I need to walk either today or tomorrow..[[note]: as a form distance runner & soccer mid-fielder I am prone to periodic visits from "Charley Horse" [aka: leg/foot cramps]..and potassium helps reduce but the severity and frequency of his visits..bananas and tomato juice are both good sources of potassium..and since I was mostly done with my online gaming early decided to walk today..some rolls..bananas..green & red onions..3 bottles of fruit flavored sparkling water..&..a couple wedges of New York style cheesecake..but the interesting thing was the checkout clerk is as we would have said back in the day..is in the "family way"..and commented that she as well was eating a banana a day to reduce her cramps..../....and I'll probably walk to Aldi Sunday as well..usually every three days or so..firstly it's a short walk..secondly because I carry every thing in a sling bag there is a limit of what I can carry at any one time..and lastly I also have limited frig space...../....Have spent the day other than that in my "fortress of solitude"..../....although it is basically dormant I do have a poetry blog and have written poetry since my early teens..and have been looking for a poetry group on Facebook since G+ has ceased to function..was on a couple of sites there..so I found one and was accepted in to membership..and I'm looking forward to that,,[if interested you can find a link to my blog in the side-bar]..../....just a couple ,ore tings to finish off for the day..ergo..nite all....

   I had one of rare decent night's sleep last night and got a fast start on my online playing to the point that I was pretty much done by 11:00..and watched some NCIS episodes  on the USA network..I has planned to walk Price Chopper tomorrow to get my meds and maybe a stop at T J Maxx..I had forgotten that the pharmacy closes for lunch between 13:30 & 14:00 everyday..and got there about 13:15..and initially got told I had to wait.but after the clerk check with the pharmacist she got my meds right away..of which 1 was grateful for..I've been getting my meds there for the 7 or 8 years or so every three months and have developed a decent relationship with the staff..then off to T J Maxx in hopes that I could find another jar of the peppers I bought the other day..no luck..but did find a large jar of capers..a brand I have had before and was quite satisfied with them & a grinder bottle of mixed pepper corns..had been out of them for awhile and was glad to find them..and then back to my rooms..../....I hand penciled in my next trip to Aldi for groceries for either Friday or Saturday..the timing is controlled by how many bananas I have left..but a look at the five day forecast made the decision for me as rain is expect most of the daylight hours on Saturday..because of my less than stellar night vision and my balance issues I avoid walking after dark..unless absolutely necessary and always carry a flashlight if it's unavoidable..../....[a brief pause as I'm off to collect timed drops of free chips/coins on the live games I've play]..../....once I say "nite all" I'll only have one more set of drops..a final posting to "Trollie's Game Room" before I take my leave of the day..[took leave of my senses many years ago]..ergo.."nite all"....

   Although it quit raining a couple of hours ado I have not ventured out of my "fortress of solitude" all day and have no intention of doing so this evening..just felt like spending some alone time..I think I would have made a great hermit..../....I play daily a sim of the card game Spades..my "partner" and both opponents are computer generated..and I refer to my partner as the "Artificial Idiot"..[AI]..among other things the programming treats all four suits the same when computing the players bid..and doesn't given  extra "weight" to Spades[always trump]..anyways I've come to the conclusion that while probably a very good programmer..he/she had read a book on Spades but has never actually played the game..../....When I was running a shipping/receiving department many years ago one of the trucking companies brought in a brand new trailer..and a new design..a 32' wedge design..with the front of the interior high then the back..so you drove up an incline entering and down exiting..apparently more aerodynamic and to save weight rather the a wood floor or at least panels of wood where the tires of the forklift touched the floor..polished aluminum..first time driving in one was mid-January in the Northcountry & outdoor temperature was a crisp -30*F..me and the 8'K lb. forklift w/a 2K lb pallet on the forks got into the nose of the empty trailer fine..I dropped the pallet..put the lift into reverse..took my foot off the brake and before I hit the accelerator slid back off the trailer and bounced off both walls in the process..oy vey..floor was like a sheet of ice..and I came to the conclusion that the engineer who designed it..had never seen a trailer..never been on one..and certainly never driven a forklift on one..in the winter anywhere where sub-zero temperatures were common..they eventually add slip resistant striping to the floor so that you could get in and out of them without ice-skating with an 8'K lb forklift..if you've never tried it..don't..I had a very interesting conversation with the terminal manager..which shall not be repeated here..../....have spent the day online as always..been busier on the FB group "The Farthest Side" where I'm a moderator..still a few loose ends to tie off..ergo..nite all....

   As far as the physical part of 6 monthly checkup at the doctor's office every thing went well..now I had a problem with my medicare card/cover...and thought that I had straight that out over a moth ago..nope..apparently I'm listed as having another health insurance..when I was working I was on a health plan thru work which I paid only a percent of the fees..but that plan only covered me when I was employed there..and I haven't been for over 13 years..so I try both online and by telephone for quite sometime trying to correct the problem an d got noway..oy vey..finally gave up..mainly because I was getting frustrated and very annoyed..and decided to just give it a rest..the local Social Security office is just down the street from me..a longer walk then I usually take but well within my range..and take that walk and see if I can finally get the problem taken care of..I'm a true believer of Murphy" Law: "If something can go wrong it will" & the corollary "Murphy was an optimist..I't did indeed rain every so lightly for my walk to and from the doc' but I have very good rain gear..a hood..elastic on the cuffs and at the waist & a high zipper..only one problem when must be very careful when zipping the jacket when on has a full beard..I've got hairs from my beard caught in the zipper before and the results were quite on pleasant..../....Despite the fact that between the office visit and the aborted attempts on phone and online to correct the issue took up a couple of hours of my time..and I am a little behind my normal  schedule but will get every thing done if a bid later than /usual..../....with rain part of the day tomorrow and Wednesday as well and with nothing pressing that I need I probably will spend the next couple of days in my "fortress of solitude"..just a few things to clean up before day's end..ergo..nite all....

   I have my /usual appointment with the doc for my regularly scheduled 6 month check up..as I been feeling reasonably well I foresee no major problems..except that the weather forecast for tomorrow is for light rain/showers and according to the percent chance it's highest during the time period of my walk to and from the appointment..[shrugs]..it's a short walk..maybe ten minutes at most..and I do have some decent rain gear & a umbrella..so unless it's a down pour I should be okay..now last week after my last previous trip to Aldi..Monday seemed like a perfect day for the trip..as both to the  doc' office and on the way back I pass the crosswalk I take to cross the street to Aldi..but this morning when I saw that the advanced forecast looked to be right..decided that rather then increase my exposure to the rain by taking the trip to Aldi decided to do that this morning..so about 09:00 off I went..bananas..liquid egg-whites..fruit and grain bars..of course cherry..3 bottles of fruit flavored sparkling water..and when checking the deli items saw that they had one package left of the italian dry salami..so although not on the list it found it's way into my cart..../....Have spent the day as/usual but I use some all  purpose labels to mark my spices and to mark the cartoons of liquid egg-whites I use with the date I opened one..according to my research you should use it within 7 days..so off to Dollar General and a package of the labels and a pair of red pens...../....After figuratively speaking "jumping through hoops" for better part of the week on "Trollie's Game Room" trying to keep it looking orderly..first when the poker game I play was down and I lost the usual report..and then when I came back up undoing what I had done..but I think that with it backup things hopefully will return to normal..or as normal as it ever is..now for me to literally "jump through hoops"..a] i haven't jumped in years..my knees & feet would never permit it..b] I'd probably catch my cane in the hoop..fall..and bust my tuckus..so I'll stick to the figurative..../....a couple of things yet to do..ergo..nite all....

   I was pretty well done with the majority of my online game play..now I had decided to take a walk this afternoon to get some needed supplies..but as I was pretty well done I decided to walk just before 11:30..first to Price Chopper..some peppers..poblanos..fresh garlic..shallots & a bag of small golden potatoes..I've tried a few different kinds of potatoes over the last few months..and of all the types I've tried these seem to be the best choice..not only do I like the flavor but they "keep" better then the other types I've tried..then off to T J Maxx..found a bottle of preserved mild piquante peppers..had hear of them but had never see them in a store and of course I had to immediately try them on I got back to my rooms..they're not really "hot" but the do have a nice flavor and a bit of a hint of some heat to them..very nice and a nice addition to my pantry..and then to the convenience store for a shelve of 5 cans of the chew I use..just a pinch between the cheek & gums..yup..I know..a bad habit..but it's the last one I've got..25th of this month..it will be three years since I hopped on "the wagon"..I was a heavy drinker & I'm surprised that a couple of liquor stores didn't have to declare bankruptcy..and I don't chase woman any  more..they're way too faster for this gimpy..grumpy..old codger & besides I probably trip over my cane and bust my tuckus..I started with the chew when I was working machine maintenance maybe 45 years ago and have done so since..it helped me deal with the stress of my job..and when I made the switch to running the shipping/receiving/warehousing departments the chew came with me..if anything a more stressful job the other..maybe one of these days I may decided to quit..but then..a fellow needs one bad habit..doesn't he..../....besides the walk have had a very enjoyable..restful day..not the best day at the games I play..but a good day none the less..but a few more things to tie up before I can take my rest..ergo..nite all....

   Have spent a quiet day in my rooms saved for a short walk this afternoon down the hill to the Plaza just a short walk from the hotel I live in..I had had a problem with my mouse..the rubber grip on the left side had become loose..so off to the shelves and grab my bottle of Gorilla Glue..which I discovered much to my dismay the glue was now as hard as a rock..ergo..since the loose grip was annoying me..off to Dollar General..in search of glue..got a bottle of Loctite Super Glue..[which apparently spell check has never heard of]..and since I was there a package of cookies..a bag of white cheddar popcorn..a bottle of Gatorade Zero..and a can of pitted black olives..speaking of Gatorade back in the 60's the sports staff at the college would make a cooler of it for sporting events..in those days..not a pre-bottled drink of today..but in powdered form and added to water and ice..a short chat with the clerk and also one of the kids from Ollie's was there and a short chat with her as well..../....Thinking of college I decided to go out for the soccer team..now back in the day the rural school I attended didn't have a soccer team but I had learned the game on the sand lot..from to kids who's parents were missionaries in Haiti and were home for a year because of  their mother's illness..and had learned the game in Haiti..I had enjoyed the game and decided to give it ago in college..different sub rules in those days you could sub-in..sub-out..& back in again..what we called "free substitution" but you could only designate 4 players/game..I picked the formal game quickly and was 1st sub off the bench by halfway thru the season..and played all but a few minutes of the last game of the season at center-mid when the starter pulled an Achilles tendon..and we won the game..but the one thing I could never figure out was the team name..now I attended a very conservative Baptist bible school..and they did not trace their roots to the Reformation but to independent christian churches that exist before the Reformation..so why as the name for their sport teams did they pick the name Crusaders..warriors of the Roman church..didn't dare ask..but often have wondered..../...a few things still require my attention..ergo..nite all....

   Except for the short walk by-way-of the halls I've not been out of my rooms all day..the usual  online gaming..my duties as a mod. on the FB group "The Farthest Side"..searching Youtube for some new videos for my playlists..and watched some "Rizzoli & Isles" & "Beat Bobby Flay"..pretty normal day for this gimpy..grumpy..old codger..../....I am not by nature a political person..sure I've voted in the past but when I first registered to vote..back in the 60s..voting age was still 21 years old..the Republican Party in NYS was just too liberal for my liking and the Democrats were even worse..so I registered as a member of the NYS Conservative Party..a few years later I was asked by a friend who happened to be the county chairman if I'd be a ward committeeman for the party and I decided I would..thinking that the worst thing about politics was it was run by politicians..and maybe I could as a non-political person make a difference..a couple of years later I was asked to be a member of the county committee..and accepted..thinking maybe I could make a difference..about a year after joining was an "off election" year..no statewide or national votes..but local elections..now I knew the outgoing county DA..who was running for county judge..so the two candidates from the two major parties came looking for our endorsement as well..one had a very good educational background & was the current top ADA..the other a less stellar education and a family lawyer with little if any criminal court experience..I  thought the choice was cut & dry..problem was the former was female & Pro-Choice..the later male & Pro-Life..and on that fact alone against my protests..the committee endorsed the later..I saw the chairman on Sunday at church..and resigned...now I'm Pro-Life..but to make a choice in a local election on one issue..and an issue which that office has no control over..oy vey..the lady won and I voted for her every other year for the next 20 years until she stepped down..I'm now registered independent..no party affiliation..besides I've never made a positive vote for national office..always voted for the candidate I disliked the least..../....still a few things to tie up before I take my rest..ergo..nite all....

   I've had a decent day..not the best but by far not the worst nights sleep..walked just after 09:00 to Aldi for some groceries..a package of hard rolls..4 bananas..3 bottles of fruit flavored sparkling water [cherry/lemonade]..a quart of liquid egg-whites..& another wedge of Romanian cave cheese..apparently it's aged in brine and the stored in a cave..and Aldi only has it due the Halloween season..I find it most enjoyable and usually pickup a couple of wedges and store it in my frig..../....have spent the day as I most often do online..playing live games..sims & solitaire..tending to my duties as a moderator on the FB group "The Farthest Side"..and updating "Trollie's Game Room" & of course tending & creating new playlists on Youtube..../....Away back when in school I played on the school baseball team my senior year..now I had played in an adult slow-pitch softball league since I had been 13 yrs. old..and hadn't played fast pitch hardball since I was maybe 11 or 12....but they needed a defensive outfielder..and I "fit the bill"..besides a couple of my "friends" made me an offer I  couldn't refuse...we were playing an away game..closed park..four foot home run fences..and this dude from the other team hit a deep fly ball my way..my back to the fence I knew what I needed to do...moved about ten feet away from the fence and as the ball came my way ran to the fence..jumped..leaned over the fence and made the catch..one problem..I hit the wall with my center of gravity above the top of the fence and went over..hit the ground on the other-side fortunately fairly soft..but knocked the wind out  of me..knew I had to show I had the ball..stuck my glove over the fence and drop the ball into the field of play..I'm told that as I made my run for the fence our coach buried his head in his hands knowing what would happen..but I caught the ball and we won the game so it was worth it..well that is until the next morning..I felt that catch for days.....but then I tended to play sport with maybe a little more enthusiasm than was necessary and looking back now it was probably not to wise either..as my joints remind me from time to time..../....Still a few things to tie up before I take my rest..ergo..nite all....

   I thing and another if it wasn't the rain than it was me feeling poorly the other morning and also with the low barometric pressure and dampness and my joints complaining as they often due I hadn't been out side for 2 days and had only taken 1 short walk up to the lobby this morning to get my breakfast items from the buffet..and after checking the weather for the next few days decided that baring the zombie apocalypses I need to walk at least to Aldi tomorrow..and decided rather that stop at the ATM then would take the quick walk up the hill to the ATM for my "ten day walking around money"..and anyways today was the correct day for that errand..../....another less that decent night's sleep but at least this morning I feel pretty sharp mentally..and was in a much better mood..by the joints and the morning rain precluded any walk other than the short trip mention above..../....had most of my online play done by noon and have spent the day until just taking the free chip/coin drops periodically on the three live games I play..and watching a couple of episodes of "Rizzoli & Isles" on the Lifetime network..and enduring some the networks other offerings..can someone explain to me why peeps would want to watch "killer cheerleader movies"..what am I missing..and another thing..now I complained before that for the whole month of October two of the networks are showing nothing but Halloween/monster/horror flick..but staring the 3rd week of October Lifetime is starting to show "holiday" movies..and I don't me Halloween or Thanksgiving..their starting to show Christmas flicks..oy vey..but then if they didn't show "R&I" I'd never watch anything on that channel anyways..I've been noticing that some of the stores already have their Christmas decorations on display..??...../....I guess I'm just a gimpy, grumpy. old codger that's stuck in the past..when it was at least from my POV a more orderly and dare I say civilized universe..[can be see stepping down from his soap box]...anyways just a few tasks remain and with this another is completed..ergo..nite all....

   Got another decent night's sleep last night and a pretty typical start to the day save for the fact that the live poker game I play is still down..was pretty much done with the majority of my online play by just after 12:00 so decided to take the walk I was planning to Aldi this morning..just the typical fare except for a bag of corn chips..I like them as a "scoop" when I have some bean dip or hummus..and later the short walk to Ollie's..spent time looking at Ollie's but didn't find anything that I needed &/or wanted..then off to Dollar General..a jug of tomato juice..a bottle of Gatorade Zero..& a bag of cheddar cheese popcorn..and back into my rooms..../....have not been spending the amount of time I had been as a moderator on the FB group.."The Farthest Side"..the number of new member requests have dropped off considerably..but there again we have at present about 45'K members..and I got the feeling we may have hit the "high water mark" in numbers..../....Earlier today while I was playing a game of "Spade Sims" I looked at the score after a hand and "they's" score was 144..and for some reason what "popped" into my mind was.."What a gross score"..when I was a kid when you bought paper..typing/copy paper..in bulk it was package of 144 sheets..a gross..a dozen-dozen sheets..one of the possible meanings of the noun form..of course as an adjective it has a rather disgusting meaning..../....just a few more loose ends to tie off until before I take my rest..& I'm quite sure that a snack is in my future and maybe some more wanderings around Youtube to find a few more old memories of my youth..ergo..nite all....

   Been an interesting day..had the best night sleep I've had in quite awhile..usually I "hit the sheets" between 20:00 & 21:00 most nights..but last night I was trying to fall a sleep in my recline about 19:00 so I gave up and went to bed about 19:15..and the next time I saw the clock it was 23:30..took care of the issue that awoke me & and rolled back over & the next time I saw the clock it was 03:40..a little early but I was well rested so decided to start the day a little early than/usual..the free live poker game I usual play daily was still down so I got through the rest of my normal routine by just after 11:30..so decided to take a walk more for exercise than any other reason and then decided to go back to the convenience store and see if they did as was said and did get a shipment of the chew I use..which they did..and the way back decided to stop at Dollar General..a six-pack of ginger ale(7.5 oz cans)..a bag of chips & a Heath bar..and back to my lodgings..and the rest of the day I've spent mostly on Youtube working on my playlists and the "loop" playing to night is one of my new ones..I remember see "Dragnet" when I as we would have said back in the day "knee high to a grasshopper"..../....One of the things that drives me nuts when trying to compile the weather for my postings is the wind direction...on one page it's an arrow..which looked like the wind was from the west/south/west..on another page it was listed as south/south/west..so when I check the radar there is a light rain in the area..and the winds..out of the north/west..ain't technology wonderful..oy vey..you'd think they'd have somebody proof-reading the dang report..[shakes his old grey head]..on the other hand most peeps probably only look at the wind speed and really don't care what the direction is..but as I live in a "lake affect snow belt"..we do..in the winter if a storm is coming and the winds are out of the west/south/west you expect the worst..../....with the poker game down few tasks still remind..ergo..nite all....

   Except for a walk to the lobby just after 07:00 for some items from the breakfast buffet..and again around 14:30 for my afternoon toffee coffee..that trip by way of the parking lot..and a sit-down on an outdoor bench to enjoy but the weather and the coffee..save for the brief visit by housekeeping..so my rooms are clean and fresh linen has been provided..The rest of the day has been just as it usual is..gaming online..several visits to the FB group the "Farthest Side" to deal with my duties as moderator..I finally think I've got a "handle" on the changes the new FB format made to the pages we use in the process of approving/declining new member request..and to approve or decline pending posts..all  the tools are still there but the arrangement changed..one thing I really like about the new format is the "dark mode"..black background rather then white..easier on these old eyes..and a recent add allows you to select it as your default..../....now the new format on Blogger..don't like it however..but moving to another platform is really not an option..ergo..just accept it is what it is..and just keep doing what I've been doing except for about 5 years when I didn't have internet access since 10/29/02..../....because of the weather forecast for tomorrow I did a check of frig and pantry to make sure I didn't need to get anything today..in point of fact probably won't need to my a grocery run until Friday or Saturday..../....was basically done with the majority of my gaming by 12:00 and have watched a little TV..and just "kicked back" and relaxed..../....It's bad enough that a couple of the network are airing nothing but Halloween/horror flicks for the whole month of October..but I saw a blurb today on another that starting October 23 there will be starting to run Christmas/Holiday themed movies..it's things like that they make me thankful for Youtube..../....still a few things to do..and a snack is calling..ergo..night all....

   Was actually a very pleasant Autumn day..took a walk over to Aldi around 09:30..just a few of the normal items..nothing hew &/or interesting caught my eye or demanded that I take them back to my rooms with me..something that actually happens quite often..but one of my fav checkout kids was working today..she's a farm girl..loves to talk about her horse..but she reminds me of many of the girls I knew when I was in school..I grew up in a rural area..a dairy farming area about 20 miles or so east of Buffalo New York..I knew three sisters that lived close by..neat thing as you drove thru rural areas back then you'd often pass a farm with a sign.."somebodies' name" and Sons..well this farm had a sigh that read "......" & Daughters..nice kids..a couple of years ago I looked at a satellite photo of the area where I grew up..and their old homestead is now a series of small ponds..now there was a gravel pit nearby and I got the idea maybe the farm was sold to the pits..we used to swim in a couple of the pits as a kid..but not one..apparently while digging they hit an underground source of water and the pit filled with water so quickly that they didn't have time to get the steam shovel out..and you could see the top of the rig in the middle..but that was 55 years ago so I sure it's just a pile rust on the bottom now...../....been another quiet day..save for the walk to Aldi..just the usual online deal..watched a NCIS episode..some of the first Harry Potter movie..and maybe some Law & Order later..and still a few things to finish before I take my rest..nite all..../....

   I was thinking today about some of the crazier things that have happened to me in my life..and it's a very long list..../....this one occurred in the fall of '71..at the time I was attending a college in the southern tier of New York State..south and west of Rochester in the Genesee Valley..since it was 49 years ago I have no idea why I went home for the weekend..but was headed back to school Sunday afternoon in my "65 VW bug convertible..1300 cc engine and a top speed of 70 mph..downhill with a tail wind..headed down I-81 toward Syracuse..and the interchange with I-90..got my ticket at the toll booth & headed down the on ramp and there was a line of about 8 or 9 cars..all '60s era US made muscle cars..GTOs..Roadrunners..et al..well a space opened up in the middle of the line of cars and off we go head west at about 75 mph..[speed limit was 65 mph]..and I'm just riding the draft..didn't even have my foot to the floor..so there's a long straight stretch of road just before you reach Rochester and the exit where I'd got off to head south..looked in the side view mirror and here came a New York State Trooper car..oy vey..pacing every car inline..me thinks if they pulled anyone over it would be me..because my car didn't belong..in size &/or horsepower..well two Troopers in the car..passenger looks at me and nods..I nod back..he turns to the driver and then back and makes a gesture as if to ask "How"..and I shrugged as if to say "No idea"..he laughed..and they took off..there was a pickup pulling a camper ahead of us..going maybe 60 mph but weaving a little..and the Troopers pulled him over and let us go flying by..[from what I could  see all the drivers of the cars were college aged..probably heading back to school just like me]..anyways made the trip probably a 1/2 hour quicker than/usual..and got great gas mileage..apparently at least that one time there was safety in numbers..../....still a few tasks as/always before I can  put my online day to "bed" for the day and then follow suit..ergo..nite all....

   Although I have been out of my room briefly twice today I have spent very quiet day..walked just up the hill before 13:00 to the ATM..despite the fact that technically I wasn't due to get my "ten day walking around money" until the morrow I wanted some fresh air..so that's done..later I had decided to walk my loop that I have described many times below..but got put the backdoor and decided that a chance of plans was in order..or rather my left knee decided so shelved that idea and just took a slow stroll through the parking lot and got a toffee coffee..when my knees or feet take to me I listen..../....not the best day on the live games I play..just haven't been catching cards on either "Poker" or Video Poker Live"..but some days you eat the bear and some days the bear eats you..../....Had one of my better nights sleep last night..actual slept for 4 hours straight..usually I walk up every two hours or so..but not last night..so at least mentally feel sharp today..but the damp/cool weather and low and falling barometric pressure over the last few days have taken their toll on my joints and physically I'm a tad more stiff and sore then is /usual..I always have a certain level of "background" pain and stiffness..but the last few days..oy vey..but then it's nobodies fault 'cept mine..I played sport with as I look back on it now with probably a little more enthusiasm & intensity than was absolutely necessary..and then there were the 35 some odd years on a cement factory floor and a many hours spent on a forklift..an 8'K lb. beast..indoor lift..with a stiff suspension..and every bump you hit..you felt..some day I'll have to recount the time we needed one in a hurry and a drove one down a couple of public streets..on a Friday..in the summer..during "rush hour"..but we'll save the details for another day..and yes I am a bit meshugeh..okay..maybe more than a bit..but still a few things to deal with before I slept..and watching a "Bourne" movie is one of them..ergo..night all....

   I'm not pleased with the appearance of the posting now that Blogger has changed to a "mobile friendly" format..my real issue is that I can't single space between lines..so as not to have a lot of empty spaces and increasing the length of a post..I've just been running everything together..even more than I used to..so decided to try something..so I wrote a short poem..but used another word processing program that I and then copied and pasted it to "Trollie's Poetry Corner"..no joy..double space between the line..rats..now my sis also uses blogger but doesn't post on a regular basis..so I don't know if she's tried the new format yet..but I assume not..because I'm sure she won't be pleased anymore than I am and sure to get a pm from her when she does..../....now I didn't look outside but we had a fairly loud anyways thunder storm in the early afternoon but I did walk after it had abated and so no signs of severe damage..but it was loud..../....just a short walk down the hill to the close by plaza..a couple of days ago I had bought a small bottle of a spice mix I hadn't tried before..at Ollie's..garlic..smoked paprika & cayenne pepper..and thought that it was a nice addition to my ever growing collection of spices and hot sauces..but being that I got it at Ollie's an outlet store..if you try something and like it then  you'd better go back and buy another for the pantry because once it gone there is a high probability that they'll never have it again..and then off to Dollar General..just a 6-pack of 7.5 oz. cans of Canada Dry ginger ale..and another two cherry pocket pies..and then back to my rooms..../....I tried to watch a episode of "Beat Bobby Flay" after I was offline last night and almost fell asleep in my recliner..so was in bed before 20:00..and never got for good until after 04:30//but despite the late start to the day I got everything well in hands save for "End of Day" on the three live games I play..ergo..nite all....

   I had noticed that on one of the TV  channels I watch the programs were starting a few minutes early..and I should have tumbled to the problem when my very punctual sister was already waiting for me when I thought I was a couple of minutes early..and again today on another channel..now we have lost power briefly in the last few weeks and I've always re-set my alarm clock to my computer time which in the past has auto-re-set..but decided it's got to be my problem..used google and searched "current GMT time"..[it's now a bookmark under my "library" bookmark]..yup..my computer clock was 6 minutes slow..oy vey..so re-set that as well as my alarm clock..which I don't think I've ever used as an alarm clock..because I'm retired and rarely have to get up earlier than usual for an appointment..I'm up one side or the other of 04:00(local time) every morning anyways..and besides on the rare occasion I need it..I live in a hotel..I call the desk..ask for a walk-up-call..the phone rings at the pre--arranged-time and a canned voice tells me to get my ugly tuckus out of bed..well not quite in those words but the meaning is the same..../....Most of the morning I was checking the local radar and just before 11:00 the rain had past..so just after 11:00 took the walk to Aldi's that I had hoped that the weather would allow me to make either today or tomorrow..didn't get any thing other than the usual fare..accepted I was tempted to get a wedge of Romanian cave cheese..bought one the other day and it's in the "'Aldi finds" section so when it's gone it gone..../....one of the networks I check everyday is AMC..and starting today until the end of the month every movie they're airing is a horror/Halloween flick..oy gavalt..probably my least favorite genre of movies..thinking of deleting the bookmark until November 1st..../....still just a few things to accomplish before I take my rest..ergo..nite all....
