[Now Playing" [Today's My Mix]..
As the farmers I knew while growing up in a dairy farming area outside Buffalo, NY...the weather today is not fit for man or beast..and certainly not a gimpy, grumpy, old codger with balance issues like me..I wasn't out of my rooms all day except for trips to the lobby..one for breakfast, one just to "stretch my legs"..and one just a short time ago to get my evening toffee coffee..even once the rain subsides tomorrow..I'll wait for the wind to "die down".. because of my essential tremors I at times have balance issues..last year I made the mistake of walking in high winds and I got twisted around and if it  hadn't been for the cane I carry anytime I walk outside I would  have certainly gone down..so since then I avoid walking in high winds..
I for one am glad that tomorrow puts to an end what has become a month long celebration of Halloween..nothing on most networks but horror/Halloween movies for an entire month..even "The Farthest Side" an FB group where I'm a mod has been besieged by a flood of Halloween posts..oy vey..I can understand with the thought of free candy and a chance to dress up like your fav super hero or whatever can appeal to a child or even a young teen..but "The Farthest Side" is by-enlarge an adult group..good grief grow up people [rant over]..
Barring having to wade through a bunch of Halloween posts..It's been a quiet, calm, restfully day..and probably will stay in for the majority of tomorrow as well..still a few things to wrap up both on and off line before I place my head on my pillow to sleep..nite all..

A morning walk to Aldi..just the usual fare but in addition got a bag of crusty rolls..just about out of the baguette i got at Price Chopper..and decided to try the rolls from Aldi for my sandwiches that I have some evenings..but I also will sometimes use naan bread..more of a roll-up then a traditional sandwich..had been to Price Chopper yesterday and they didn't have any  baguettes..and later a walk to Ollie's and Dollar general...just bits and pieces..
Watched a couple of the NCIS reruns on the USA network..but the majority of them were old Halloween episodes and quite frankly I've had my fill of Halloween related shows and horror movies that have seemed to have been virtually the only thing aired for the entire month of October..
Other than the walks have spent a quiet day in my rooms..a few things left to do both on and off line this evening..nite all..

Took an early walk this morning just up the hill to the ATM..my every ten day [+/-] to get my "walking around" money..and later my usual Tuesday walk to Big Lots..seniors get a 10% discount on Tuesdays so..a couple of bottles of cherry lemonade sparkling water [which I usually get]..but one of the reasons I like that store is they quite often have unusual food items..now I have used capers for years in my cooking..but have never seen caper berries for sale anywhere I've shopped..saw them used on the Food Network..and always wanted to try them..well now I can..had a taste when I got back to the rooms and I like them..also got a bottle of Sarsaparilla..never have had the either..but a bottle is now chilling in my frig..maybe crack her open with my evening snack..and a late afternoon walk to the convenience store for my chew..I know a bad habit which I've had for over 40 years..and besides it's the last bad habit I have..I mean everyone should have at least one..well that's my story and I'm sticking to it..
The other routine on Tuesday is the visit from housekeeping..I had just pulled my mid-day meal from the microwave..so sat in my recliner..ate my meal and stayed out of their way..
Watched some TV and of course the usual online time..a little poker..a little spades..the usual 11 solitaire games..tending to my three blogs and my mod duties on the FB group "The Farthest Side"..still a few things to attended to before it's time to call it a day..both on and off line..nite all..

I think I mention that I had been looking for a poetry group or two on FB..joined two..but after seeing what was being posted..oy vey..the poetry was by enlarge pretty bad..plus there were too many posts that had nothing whatsoever to do with poetry..so have left both groups..dang I wish G+ was still there..

It didn't rain near as much as predicted..when washing up the dishes from both my first & second meals I discovered that at some time during the process the glass I use for my veggie juice had acquired a small chip out of the lip of the glass..not guess one how that happened but rendered it unusable..and since I only have one other suitable..a replacement was needed..because of my essential tremors I can't use light glasses..I need something with a little weight to them..I found that a "rocks glass" is the perfect fit for my purposes..so just after 14:00 the rain had stopped and checked the local weather radar on my desktop..was clear for a couple of hours..took a look at Ollie's but all they had were in sets of 4..and I wanted a single glass not a set..off to The Thrift Store..they have used glasses..and found a perfect one..then off to Dollar General to pick up the last few items I needed for my "winter pantry"..sometimes in the winter whether it's the weather that keeps me in my rooms or my knees bothering me..I may not get out to shop for several days..I always keep a couple of weeks of canned food for those times..the weather cleared again later just be for dusk and I walked my evening loop..coming back by way of the lobby to get my nightly toffee coffee..
Watched more TV than /usual..a couple of episodes of "Law & Order SVU"..didn't play as many online games today as I usual do..just relaxed..
Got more hits both here and over at "Trollie's Game Room" from not only from the "porn bots" but a bot for a barter site..oy vey..but so far the security settings I use have prevent any potential problems..just more hits for the old "hit counters"

It's been a rather busy day today..but also quite enjoyable..yesterday I had used the last of my gallon zip-lock storage bags and although I already had a back for the quart size ones..that to was almost empty..best place to buy them is Ollie's [read: cheapest] nut was already dark at the time and because of poor night vision I don't walk out after dark..and had planned to go to Aldi today because I was almost out of bananas..but since the stores are in opposite directions means I'd have to walk to one then walk past my rooms to get to the other..makes no sense in my orderly universe..had two topic I also wanted to post to "Trollie's Game Room" and time was limited by something I wanted to do on the live game I play..needed to do it at an exact or nearly exact time..so went to Ollie's got the bags and a box of granola bars..back to the rooms..posted one of the two topics..took the action on the game..went to Aldi got my bananas and a couple of other items..and then back to the rooms and posted the other topic..and order was restored..the trip to Aldi took longer then what I had originally planned but had an interesting chat with one of the kids that works there..and I'll always make time for that..[note: my definition of a "kid" is someone who is more than an hour younger then me..if more than an hour older it's sir or madam..and if it's a female..and cute it's "lady"]..Look I realize I'm a grumpy..gimpy..old codger..but the day I stop "looking" is the day that they nail the lid over my head..
Got to thinking about the fact that it's almost the end of the month, and I prefer to do things when I  think about them..always been that way..so paid my rent for next month..so that it's done..
Today is a kind of anniversary for me..today marks 2 years sober for me, that and a change in diet and I'm in the best health I've been in for probably the last 10 or 15 years..

It rained on and off most of the morning and into the early afternoon..spent the morning as I often do online..but the rains had stopped around 14:00 and decided to walk to Price Chopper..when I had filled the prescriptions for my meds awhile back at the in-store pharmacy they had been out of the B-1 that the Doc had prescribed..just like they had been six months ago..and ways I had a lot left..but had wanted to get all three at the same time..anyways decided to go and pick it up today..and while there see if the had any baguettes at the in-store bakery..they did have any when I was in earlier this week..had a couple of different kinds but I got the multi-grain..and again wedged in my sling bag and walked home with the last 10 or so inches sticking out the top of the bag..there are very few things I enjoy more then eating a good hunk of crusty bread..especially when there's some cold cuts and cheese nestled inside..
Besides that it's been a fairly peaceful, stress free day, except that the damp weather has been "playing hob with" my knees [link]..I've had a problem with chronic tendinitis [link] since I was 15 years old..and damp days with low barometric pressure has always effected my knees..I played sport with a tad to much enthusiasm when I was younger..played what we in the USA call soccer..and among other sports ran 20K road races, a couple of marathons [including "Boston"]..and volleyball to name just a few..actually almost any sport that involved a ball..
Stayed up a little later than normal for me tonight so I'm starting to nod off while typing this post..still have to button up "Trollie's Game Room" for the day..just after 20:00 and check the TV listing for tomorrow as I always do..a last check at "The Farthest Side"..emails..and maybe a snack..so will say..nite all..

It's funny how sometimes a random occurrence will trigger a long forgot memory..just before I started to post this I had been vetting new member requests on "The Farthest Side"..and the name of the person I was vetting at the time trigger a memory from my past..and as it often does..it was a song from long ago...from age 8 to age 15 I spent a week or two at a boy's summer camp..and except for the first year was at "Camp Hickory Hill" near Warsaw, NYS..and except if it rained we'd sit around a campfire every night and sing campfire songs..and put on skits..both were pretty silly looking back on it now..but I enjoyed the memory very much..so off to Youtube and actually found a recording of that silly/crazy song [listen]..and those times were over 55 years ago..and I don'y think I've thought of that silly song in years..but as a trigger it brought back fond memories from those weeks spent at camp those many years ago..
Except for a short walk this afternoon have spent the day in my rooms..most of the morning and early afternoon watching "NCIS" re-runs on the "old boob tube"..and for the most part just watched from the comfort of my recliner..took a "mini-vacation" from my usually playing online games..did play some but not as much as /usual..walked my usual late afternoon/early evening loop but in reverse so that I'd pass by Dollar General just before getting back to my room..and bought a jug of veggie juice which has found it's place in my day's first meal..
I have something I want to do online in about an hour..so will probably check in on my emails and "The Farthest Side" but plan to just as we use to say back when we connected to the internet through a telephone line...I'm going to "surf the net"..been awhile since I've done that..nite all..

Dang..raining now through about 01:00 tomorrow..then clear until AM Thursday..which is almost completely different from the advanced forecast the week which I made my shopping/walking plans on..rains never began today until just a few hours ago..and actually walked twice...early morning to Big Lots...got a couple of bottles of cherry lemonade sparkling water, a bottle of Powerade zero sugar, and another spice mix..then later to Dollar General..a bottle of salad dressing and when I got them home the wrong size paper plates..not that I won't use them..but had enough of that size..was short on the size I intended to buy but didn't..dummkopf..although I have some nice microwave bowls for cooking..I eat off paper plates..I hate washing anymore dishes than absolutely necessary..I fact more often than not I just eat my meals out of the bowls I used to cook the meal..
But because I had pre-planned to stay in tomorrow to avoid the expected rain, I probably will anyways..at least in the morning to early afternoon..USA network from 08:00 through to 15:00 is showing 'NCIS" re-runs..and the episodes from the Ziva era..the new ones I just can't tolerate..but then most of the TV shows and movies I watch off Youtube are older..I almost never watch the major network programming..unless for the occasional sporting event..
I love the fall..it is by far  my favorite season..but I have grow to hate the month of October..as far as TV programming is concerned..I see no reason why several of the cable networks are showing nothing this month except for Halloween or horror movies..good grief..I have never been terribly fond of horror/monster/Halloween flicks..for that matter of the fuss made over Halloween..even as a kid I could take it or leave..of course part of that was because I grew up rural..I never saw any value in of walking a mile to visit a half dozen houses to get a couple bars of candy..I did however pull a gag on our church youth group as a teen..I let be known that I wasn't going to attend the annual hayride/Halloween party..and the girl next door..told everyone she was bring a girl from school with her..anyways when the masks were removed at the end of the party it was it was me dressed up as a witch..and nobody has figured it out..did I every mention I love pranks[link]..I spent many hours in the principles office in high school, and also the Dean of Students office in college..but they were never able to actually prove my involvement..but I don't need Halloween to pull a prank..which reminds me its been awhile since I've pulled one...hum..

Almost took a header this morning when getting ready to go to the breakfast buffet....now back in the day I was a pretty good athlete and had very good balance....but one of the effects of the essential tremors is it affects your balance....so had put on my hat [never go outside the rooms with out a hat]...and took a quick spin to grab my cane....and if i hadn't steadied my self on the nearby wall would have fallen....the problem is my mind remember how to execute the maneuver....the body however is no-longer capable of said maneuver....as to the hat....force of habit....I managed an industrial warehouse for many years....a very dusty warehouse....and the hat kept my hair relatively clean....besides the trucking companies that we used were more then happy to give me a never ending supply of hats....of course with their logo on it....no left now...just a  few things to wrap up....nite all....[note: since I mention Essential Tremors from time to time have added a link on the sidebar in "Useful Links"]

[Now Playing: "Classical Autumn" [listen]],,
Took my regularly scheduled walk to Big Lots this morning....didn't get more than a bottle of dried chives and a bag of white cheddar corn puffs....and then a quick stop at Aldi on the way back to my rooms three bananas, an english cucumber and a bag  of green onions or you can all them spring onions or even scallions....there are several different varieties....what you call them just depends  on where and probably when you grew up....when I was a kid we lived in a rural area to the east of Buffalo NYS....and had a big garden....and a chicken coop with 12 residents....and we'd always plant green onions....most of which never made it to the kitchen....dad had made a small shelf above the outside water faucet....a shaker of salt, one of pepper & a cruet of vinegar was always there in nice weather....and many of the veggies never got any closer to the kitchen....and especially the green onions....
Also just walked the loop I often do in the evening....but as the days grow shorter heading towards the winter solstice if I do walk....it will be in the afternoon....and if that fails there are always the hallways here....which I often walk in the winter when I can't get out....
"Trollie's Game Room" is already buttoned up for the day....I got involved both online and off and missed a importunity by nearly an hour....so decided to close up shop as it where early....me and typing on a keyboard when I'm tired is a non-starter....because of my essential tremors it's a challenge even when I'm wide awake....but when tired....oy vey....still a few other things to wrap up....a snack and off to bed....nit all...

It was a cloudy day, with a stiff breeze when I walked about 10:00 this morning....a stop at the Pharmacy @Price Chopper....there are 2 others in the general vicinity but both of the others are farther and the fact that the one I use is in one of the markets I shop in....plus there are two other stores in that plaza I frequent.....it was time to re-fill my meds [every 3 months]....so I stopped in talked to the clerk....and off to T J Maxx....a bottle of Tikka a spice from India....and another bag of Yuca chips....[dang....two more words added to the spellcheck dictionary]....and then back to Price Chopper to pickup my meds....and later a walk to Ollie's....I noticed my mouthwash which I use nightly is down to just under a half full....and I tend to when things like that get half full by a replacement....truth be told I tend to get it when I notice it....I hate to run out of anything I use on a regular basis....especial with winter around the corner....there have been times when between weather and my feet and/or knees are misbehaving....I haven't been able to get out for several days....hence the winter pantry....still have to do an inventory and make a list of the few last things I need to assemble....
Other then that it was a typical quiet day spent online....tomorrow being a Tuesday, housekeeping will be in....I was thinking of not taking my usual walk to Big Lots to take advantage of the 10% senior discount that day....I had stopped there yesterday.....but when checking the pantry I realized that with rain predicted for both Wednesday and Thursday....I should get a few things at Aldi tomorrow....and since both are in the same direction will "kill two birds with one store" or rather stop at two stores on the same walk....all that's left is to check emails....a last visit to "The Farthest Side" and maybe a late night snack and then off to bed....nite all....

Had a nice dinner and chat with my sibs and there mates....as I write this if everything went according to plan....there should be in or near Gettysburg Pa now....on there way to their winter digs in Florida....and there until May....truth be told....I have never contemplated as more south....I grew up in the "lake effect snow area" [link] off Lake Erie....thee family moved to Watertown NYS....the summer after I  graduated high school....and except for 9 semesters in college [all spent in either the southern tier of NYS or northern Pa.] I have spent the rest of life In the "lake effect snow area" off Lake Ontario....I like the seasons....sure if the wind is out of the n/n/w we get out weather off Hudson Bay....back in the '70s we had a day with a low temperature  of -55*F and 55 mph winds....windchill in excess of -100*F....only day I can remember the city here was shutdown  by the cold....but I can deal with cold....dress for the cold....better than I deal with the heat and high humidity....
Have spent the day as I almost always do....in my rooms and online....except for a brief walk to Big Lots....while checking my spices this morning realized I was almost out of Turmeric and a look in the pantry revealed I needed [okay wanted] a couple of bottles of Cherry Lemonade sparkling water....the sparkling water I usual get at Aldi [cheaper price] but they don't carry that variety...and decided to walk today rather than Tuesday....my excuse was I didn't want to forget the Turmeric but the real reason I needed an excuse to walk...also took my late afternoon early evening walk....which is occurring earlier every day....tonight the sunset was @18:22:59.....and in December the sun will rise around 07:30 +/- and set around 16:30 +/- ....when I was still working there were many a day when I left for work in the dark and went home in the dark and I was working day shift....
Still things to do before I head off to bed....nite all....

Well apparently the rain predicted for this afternoon is/was/will be a no show....when I checked the weather forecast it was there....and now it ain't....but I live about 20 miles "as the crow flies" off Lake Ontario. and the weather can change in a "heart beat".....we have a saying up here...."If you don't like the weather....wait 15 minutes....it will probably change...."
Because of my dinner tonight with my sibs I've had to truncate my play today....or rather try to cramp a day's worth of gaming, blogging and modding on "The Farthest Side".....basically what back in the day we would have called a blivet [link]....but anyways....have got "Tollie's Game Room" almost buttoned up for the night....and still need to check emails and one last look at "The Farthest Side"....and get ready to see the sibs....
A quick walk earlier to Aldi....just the usual stuff except a different cheese I don't remember every having....Wensleydale [link]....nice and some hummus....never have actually tried it....jury is still out....and yes we have bananas....
If I get back in time I might add to this....but I have to re-enter my WiFi password just after 21:00....and if I'm back after that....probably won't....so....nite all....

Walked a couple of times today....first to get another bottle of a generic brand of veggie juice that I have a small glass of every morning with my first meal....and a couple of cherry hand pies....from Dollar general....but no small cup of ice cream....that's a Summer thing with me....
Nothing much else was happening today....just the typical routine....which is to me never boring....I tend to like things to be in order....I always like to have a plan, a schedule, and do my best to keep to it....I have been accused in the past of having OCD....I always reply that I don't....but I do have CDO....when asked "What's That"....I reply....it the same as OCD....but I insist that the letters be inn  alphabetical order....actually I don't have either....but I do prefer a orderly stress free life....or as much as is possible....

Housekeeping was in today just as I was removing my finish 2nd meal from the microwave, mixed root veg....4 different varieties of peppers, some red onion, the aforementioned sausage....a few baby greens....a little evoo....and 10 differnt spices from my ever growing collection....and some cheddar and blue cheese....and of course the liquid egg white....dang almost forgot the fresh grated horseradish root I have on hand....did I ever mention I like my food spicy....so I sat in my recliner, ate my meal with a bottle of fruit flavored sparkling water....and stayed out of the way....a small piece of good dark chocolate for dessert....
Time to wrap up the day and head off to bed....night all....
