Another pretty typical early Autumn day here in the Northcountry of old New York State...nothing really to watch today on the "old boob tube"....but American style football....really not a big fan of it, never played organized team american football as a kid....some pickup games....no equipment....soccer was my game....what the rest of the world calls and rightly so football....played on a small college team, mostly mid-field, but in a pinch could play goalie....and a bit of striker....but would run in the off season about 50 mills a week to keep in shape, so a friend suggested that I try some 20K races, which I did, also a couple of marathons....all I had to do is bump the mileage in training up to 75-100 miles a week....and the added endurance helped on the soccer pitch....
Did take a short walk needed a few things at Aldi....besides that just kicked around the internet most of the day....did spend quite an amount of time fiddling around with the layout and theme of both this blog and my other 2....no major changes....did try a few things that I didn't like, so did apply them to the blog(s)....you can try a change and preview it, and if it's not what you want....you just do apply it to the blog....did make a few minor adjustments....may not even notice them....but I will

A nice early Autumn day, walked briefly....didn't really need any thing....other then the walk....and the sounds of the geese flying over head....usually during the year they stay in extend family groups usually 3 to 5 pairs of adults and this years hatch....but this time of year they tend to start collecting in much large groups, in preparation for their flight south, generally only as far south to find up (un-frozen) waters....
2nd attempt at a microwave egg dish, using the liquid egg product mentioned in an earlier post....along with the egg....some diced onion....a few diced kalamata olives....and grated cheese....butter, salt and pepper....and a dash or 3 of Texas Pete's hot sauce....with the added bulk took 1 minute and 45 seconds....I really like the fluffy texture of the eggs....
Been another quiet day, but I like quiet days, for several years I was the supervisor for the shipping/receiving/warehousing departments for a small factory....also took care of inventory/inventory control....and planning and scheduling the delivery of most of the raw materials for the production department, very few quiet days....been retired for over 10 years...but still have occasionally a "work dream"....when I was working it was almost every night....I've earned my quiet days....

It's late, got involved on a Facebook group I follow and was ready to go to bed, and realized I hadn't posted today....did walk briefly....needed a few things from Aldi....but have spent most of the day online....
First attempt at making liquid eggs in a microwave....I have a small, oven/microwave safe dish about 4" square, poured about a 1/4 of an inch of the liquid into the dish, a dash of pink sea salt, black pepper (freshly ground), and some cubes of a extra sharp white cheddar cheese, and cooked it for 1 minute....still a little runny, so cooked for an additional 30 seconds....very nice fluffy eggs...next time maybe I'll add some chopped onion, or some spice, or....whatever my mood at the time might think of....one thing I will do different is to butter or oil the dish before adding the liquid egg, et al, it did stick just a little, but a good soaking in hot water took care of that....but first try was a success, and many more to come....but since the directions state that once open product should be used in 7 days....so think I'll stick to the pint size container....it might be noted that I tend to be a little finicky when it comes to salt and pepper, and for that matter spices, and the ingredients that I use....but that's just me....

Another nice, early Fall day, walked twice, mid-morning to Ollie's and Dollar General, and then early evening to Price Chopper.....I've been wanting to try the liquid eggs out, but didn't have the right dish....I was looking for a small porcelain ramekin, but couldn't find the size I was looking for....so this morning while in Ollie's I saw a oven/microwave safe glass dish, square not round but about the right size....so about new I tried out the dish with some small potatoes and it works well, so the evening trip to among other things, pick up a pint of liquid eggs, I would prefer to use actual eggs, however since I walk, and carry all my goods in a sling bag, I fear that the attempt to carry a cartoon of fresh eggs from store to  my lodgings might result in scrambled eggs and a mess before I got them safely home....therefore the experiment with the liquid eggs....they do come in a quart size, but because I'm sailing as it were an uncharted sea....I got the pint....(oops I just tumbled to the fact that many of my hits on the blog are from countries that use the metric system) a pint is approx .473 of a liter....(also I will add a link over on the left to a metric conversion calculator)

Walked late the Science network was showing a 6 hour block of reruns of one of my fav shows "Mythbusters", when the hotel I live in change TV providers a few months ago, the Science channel was not one that I down loaded the schedule for....it seems that every time I channel hopped past it they were show "Battle Bots"....which I don't have any interest in....but a couple of days ago when i hopped by it they were showing reruns of "Mythbusters"....and now I have their schedule down loaded....but took a walk just before dark to Aldi....they had a small bag of bite sized potatoes....now all I have to cook with is a microwave and a coffee maker....but with a little ingenuity either would work....after all a coffee maker is really just a small hotplate....but put some in the microwave....will take a few tries to get the timing right but even the first attempt was good....
The weather has really turned into early Fall weather, no frost as of yet, so no Fall colors as of yet....but the Canada Geese of which there are a large number of them that spend the spring, summer, and early Fall here, are assembling in large groups, in preparation for their yearly flight south to avoid the winter....

It's been raining on and off since last evening, and it's predicted to continue thru tomorrow evening with thunder storms predicted....and if the weatherman was wrong, my right knee is quite an excellent predictor of stormy weather and it's been signing its' doleful song since mid-afternoon yesterday and is still humming right along.....so even if there was a break in the weather, I'm pretty stiff and a bit sore today so no walk, but made sure yesterday that I had everything I needed thru Thursday...so except for my weekly visit from housekeeping it has been a quiet day.....mostly online...not much on the "old boob tube" today.....but that fact is more common then there being something I'd like to watch.....

I had only intended to walk once this today, and did so this morning, needed some juice and Powerade.....but early evening checked the extended forecast rain overnight and for both Tuesday and Wednesday as well....so needed to pick up a few items so walked just before dark.....but seeing as how Autumn is my favorite of the seasons I really don't need much of a reason to walk....
I follow several groups on Facebook....not as many as I once did.....but I'm getting a bit disappointed with one of them.....I love puns and play on words.....and have been following a certain site for the last couple of years but lately it seems that many of the posters have no idea what a pun/play on words is.....or the just post ones that are so old the first time I heard them I kicked the slats out of my crib.....but of all the sites which feature puns/play on words this is still the best.....I guess I'm just getting grumpy in my older years......

It seems that Autumn has made its' entrance on cue this year for the next several days, highs in the mid-60s, and overnight lows in the mid-40s.....just one short walk today....just a few things I needed, and a couple of things I was unaware that I needed until I hear them calling to from their places on shelves and freezers.....a bag of kale chips w/sea salt....never tried them before....actually not bad...in fact quite good.....will never replace my fav ripple cut potato chips, or corn chips....but from time time why not....and a bag of frozen baby shrimp....I like shrimp salad, and have been using can, but the price of the frozen was similar and we'll see.....
Spent sometime watching the Bills vs Vikings american football game.....I grew up in the Buffalo area..home of the Bills.....a great game if you happen to be a Bills fan.....not so go if you root for the Vikings.....other then the walk it's been a quite day.....BBC America is show a Bourne movie later, so will probably watch that.....

A crisp day although Autumn doesn't begin until 21:54 tonight, looking at the 10 day forecast the weather is going to be Autumn like for the foreseeable future......Actually walked three times today....an early morning walk to a convenience store, later a trip to Ollie's more to see if the had gotten in anything new...which I didn't know I needed....which they didn't..a spot at Dollar General.....a bag of white cheddar popcorn.....and a chat with the manager...nice lady.....and later a quick to the ATM to visit my money...some of which insisted on leaving with me......
Had a phone call from my big sister.....well actually she smaller then I am so big sister may be a bit off..make that older sister.....we hadn't talk in a while.....they're in the process of moving to a retirement community in Florida....but intend to keep a small apartment in the area.....2 of their 4 live locally.....except for when we were in college and away....we've lived near each other for well 70 years...going to be...well different......

I nice day, a tad windy, but after doing an inventory of my pantry, needed to restock a few things, so a quick trip to Aldi....for many years at the factory I worked at, one of my jobs involved keeping the inventory.....eventually.....because I was in charge of shipping/receiving/warehousing....it was only natural the having to deal with entries and exits from stock would fall to my department....but eventually was also responsible for entry of the products from the production department.....also the monthly and year end inventory....not only the collecting of the data, but resolving any discrepancies....a real bear of a job, but I was good at it, I have discovered you can be both good at something and hate it at the same time......but was always good at math, and finding solutions to problem......so fast forward to the retired Madtrollie....I must admit I'm a little obsessive, when I finish for example a bottle of salad dressing, that I merely have to open the pantry and grab the new bottle.....and immediately add a bottle to my shopping list.....old habits die hard......well with most people this may be true.....but with the Mad one old habits never die, they just get older......

I had planned to be watching the reruns of "NCIS" on the USA network, but the last few have been post Ziva, post Tony......not my cup of tea....so a bit of "Have His Carcase" a Lord Peter Wimsey murder mystery
I pulled the ultimate klutz move day, decided to go over to Aldi...now I never carry all of my cash when I walk...but walked out with out checking what was in my wallet...I got to check out and no cash.....and their credit card machine was on the blink.....oy vey.....the last time I did my cash count I must have forgot to put any in my wallet....now I usually look before I leave my rooms to make sure I have enough cash for my intended purchases and a tad more...you never what may strike my fancy.....must have been distracted twice.....once one I figured my budget and forgot to put money in my wallet.....and again when I didn't check before leaving my rooms.....oy vey.....
So re-walked later, Aldi and a stop at Dollar General.......but as my dad was fond of saying "If you don't have it in your head, you have to have it in your feet"

A awoke in the middle of the middle of the night with a minor, physical, problem which was controllable, if seems better now, but the was no way I was going to get back to sleep so have been up since 02:30 local time, except for a couple of short naps, not sure what thee cause was, whether I'm coming down with something, or whether it was the quick change in the weather from hot and humid to cool and damp.....I wasn't planning on walking today...and didn't need anything so keeping to my rooms wasn't a problem
I thought there might be problems with the WiFi here again, I tried to log on to Facebook, and the 2 of the online games I play.....both are through Facebook....but had no trouble getting on non-Facebook pages.....but it has apparently been dealt with
Speaking of Facebook, every so often I'll get friend requests from "sweet young things" who I don't know, who have no friends, just another internet scam......although I've only been on Facebook for a little over 2 years....I've been online for 22 years....and have seen most of the scams online....and although I was born in the morning, it wasn't this morning.....

otherwise it has been a very quiet day, had one of my best nights sleep in quite awhile, just the usual surfing of the net, some online games, and USA network was airing some NCIS reruns....and may watch some of the Monday Night Football broadcast....

A nice day....high 70s but low humidity, and a nice breeze, just a short walk around mid-day, really could have waited a couple of days but the weather was too nice, not to walk
The Haydn Mass now playing in the original was called "Mass in Time of Trouble", I was fortunate enough to sing this piece several years ago with the local choral society....had a monster tenor....very difficult.....and I always loved a vocal challenge....and this one fit the bill....before age and essential tremors did I number on my voice.....I sang with several different size and styles of music, and started young, although I have only vague memories of the event, I sang a duet with my sister in church at 5 years old, and already sang harmony.....although I remember learning to read, I don't remember learning how to read music.....also I was blessed with perfect pitch.....which actually can be a pain, if someone is singing or playing off-key.....it's very irritating....but when younger I also played French Horn....and being able to "hear" a note of a certain pitch before you play it is a big advantage.....of all the music I've sung or played I've always been most fond of the music of the Baroque period.....the music of Bach, Handel, et al.....and in particular the liturgical  music, the mass, the oratorio, the cantata.....but also have sung and or play pieces from Gregorian Chant thru contemporary Christian, and most everything in between.....Music has always been a place for me to enjoy. to relax, to renew, and yes sometimes to hide.....

I have the sniffles and sneezes that I typically get with the change of season but beyond that my health is as go as it's been in many years.....with a change in diet, a significant weight loss, and I been "on the wagon" for over ten months and counting and intend not to "fall off" the proverbial wagon....

A comfortable late Summer or early Autumn day......the actual start of Autumn is Sept. 23rd at (21:54 UTC-4)....but living where I do, Autumn seems to come a little earlier then in some more southerly climes.....nice weather for a walk, just cool enough for me to ware one of my many hoodies.....picked up a few things for "stock" if Autumn is almost here then Winter can't be far behind, and the larder must be full for it's coming......also got the last free things that I needed and made a batch of gorp (I  realize that in the civilized world it's called trail mix, but few if any who know me know that I'm not civilized, dang I'm barely housebroke......

Will probably watch some of the american football game between the Bills and the Ravens.....I grew up outside of Buffalo...but I'm just a causal fan.....I played what the rest of the world calls football but in the USA we call it soccer while in college.....and much prefer it to american football.....and thinking about it i prefer rugby over american football as well.....I did many years ago play a game I really like that was called speedball or speed away......which went talking to a niece who lives in Europe and plays Celtic football.....that speedball is very similar to Celtic football....

It's a nice day today....my kind of weather....but a few things probably will mean that I probably won't walk today.....firstly I really don't have any needs which would require a visit to the stories...because I live in an area that can be quite cold in the winter and/or get heavy snowfall....I live in a "lake effect snow" zone (link)....during the "Blizzard of '77"....we got over 170' of snow in 8 days, and over 275" for the winter....and in the early 70's there was a day with a low temperature of -55*F...55 mph winds..windchill in excess of -100*F.....starting this time of years we tend to stock a supply of non-perishable goods....checked my larder and with what I've been picking up and what is left from last winter I have a few weeks of food if I can't get out either because of the weather, or the difficulty of getting around in ice and snow, I walk with a cane, and have some balance issues.....secondly.......the TV this week has been pretty thin when it comes to anything I would watch.....and the USA network is showing 12 episodes of NCIS back to back.....may not watch the last couple...new shows.....I just can't get into the new, replacement cast.....and thirdly.....I'm feeling a little more gimpy today that what has become the new normal....so I think I'll just do some surfing the net, and watch me some NCIS.....

(now playing: My Mix (link)
Now playing a very eclectic mix, but it defines my taste in music, and everything else about me for that matter, a bit of umpapa, a dash of polka, a pinch of light classical, and of course some Handel.....and even a bit of bagpipes....sorry about the ads....but it off YouTube......
The weather today is far removed from yesterday.....pleasant, nice breeze, still a tad humid....it's still summer.....but the rain overnight has had a big effect on the temperature....
Enjoyable morning walk, most everything I got this morning was for "stock" except for the tin of Danish style butter cookies I forgot was the reason I went out yesterday.....oh and the required morning ice cream.....got two more bags of horehound candies, and another bag of cashews..but both of these I bought at Ollie's...one rule of shopping there is if you see it and like buy a couple 'cuss you probably won't see it again...here to day and gone tomorrow fits what is an outlet for overruns and buy outs.....really no fixed stock.....but the prices are great.....
In my defense for forgetting the cookies the other day I was distracted by the horehound candies.....which is one thing I've noticed about growing old, it's not precisely my memory that's the problem, I've always forgot things, but it's that I get distracted more easily then I used to.....if I was concentrating on something I could "go into the zone" as it were and not even notice anything else....
Case in point: 4th year in college, running cross country....with a severe case of shin splints in my left leg....race day, home course, 4.6 miles.....maybe .6 of a mile relatively flat......and one brutal .5 of mile gradually up hill, about a mile and a half to the finish, and I was hurting....but knew at what we call the oak tree turn (guess why it was called that)..coach would be there with instructions......I was using all the mental strength I had to force my body to keep moving.....but I had to see coach and hear him, made the turn and heard....." you need to get two and take Karl with you".....Karl was on my 6, didn't see or hear any one else except coach and Karl.......turned my head and said to Karl "stay tucked" and speed up to mile pace.....and with 300 yds to go dropped the hammer....full out sprint ( even after a long run I could always find a sub-4:30 mile.) caught the 2nd guy in the last 100 yds and Karl stayed tucked...we won by 1 point.....afterwards our scorekeeper came up while I was hanging on to a tree, left leg in the air waiting for the equipment manager to cut off the tape which ran from just above the ankle to just blow the knee.....she said "how....you look near dead at the turn"......I replied "You were at the turn".....then she "right next to coach" me "was anyone there"  she with a strange look "about 20" me "making noise" she now really worried "of course"....truth be told I never saw or heard  anyone but coach and Karl......I might add she and I had just started dating......she insisted on cutting the tape off over my objections.....the leg swelled up and turned black and blue and she threw up......that basically was the end of that relationship

It's just dang hot today....I walked earlier when it wasn't quite as hot as it is now.....the heat index is predicted to reach +100*F by late afternoon.....but (knock wood) the forecast is for thunder storms and rain over night until tomorrow morning bringing cooler weather, mid-70s......which will be welcome......until then there is my AC....cold drinks.....and if worse comes to worst....a cold shower....
Well the peeps who select program and schedule daily programming on the 60 some odd channels I get have out done themselves today.....there is squat, zilch, nada, zero, nothing, and slim & none and slim just left town.....now there are days when they have gotten close to absolute zero before, but they have out did themselves today.......should be thankful that there is still YouTube.....and my 100s of bookmarks of music, movies, and old TV shows.....
I was shopping this morning at Ollie's.....wanted to get somethings to add to my own concoction that where I live is known as gorp or as it is more commonly known, trail mix, I've never found a store bought one that I really like.....although the actually mix may change either out of necessity, or whim...but it's always nuts, seeds, dried fruit, and M&Ms......so was lurking in the candy aisle, a bag of peanut M&Ms.....a bag of cashews.....was going to get a can of butter cookies (no not for the gorp) and a bag caught my eye...Horehound candies......forgot all about the butter cookies....well I get them the next time....if I'm not distracted again.......but back to the Horehound candies....the farmers where I grew up usually would have a bag in a pocket of the bib overalls they wore....and were the chosen cure for sore throats and colds,,,,,but although similar packaging and printing to what I remember......the words...."fat free" and "gluten free" were never on the original package......
I have at the moment 3 blogs....two of which, this one and "Trollie's Game Room" which I post to every day......and "Trollie's Game Room" more then once and I tack on to the existing day's post.....and if I'm not paying attention and don't select the right blog on my "dashboard"  I get the wrong post on the wrong board.....dummkoph.....
I see from the fact that I'm at the bottom of the page in the word program I write my posts with....ah another novella.......time to stop.....

(10:42 UTC-4)
(+77*F.....partly cloud)
(now playing: "Godfather II" on AMC)
Temperature is on the raise, going to be another hot & muggy one.....wanted to pick up a few things.....so walked right after 08:30 local time while temperature was still in the mid-60s, I mostly needed some generic veggie juice like V8 juice but a better value and actually I can't really taste a difference.....and some ballpoint pens......Dollar General didn't have the ones I got there before, but they did have a similar pen, thicker barrel and a rubber grip, it's easier for me to use considering the tremors......as to the juice.....I decided to re-institute my old habit of a glass of veggie juice with many and sundry spices and condiments.....however one add-in will now be left out, no vodka.....I'm done with vodka and all its' cousins.....be a year 10/25/18.....
When I was a kid one of the adages as was told was "You attract more flies with honey than you do with vinegar" now I know that they weren't talking about attracting or catching flies, but were talking about human interaction.....but if you were to apply it to catching flies.....fruit flies for example...the statement is 100% wrong, had a bit of a problem with some fruit flies.....googled "fruit flt trap"......and the attraction agent to use is.....you got it...vinegar.....

(13:52 UTC-4)
(+86*F.....partly cloudy...heat index...+94*F)
(now playing: "The Godfather 1&2" on AMC)
It's just dang hot today.....and if it was for a brisk breeze (+/- 14 mph) it would be unbearable.....at least to this gimpy, grumpy, old codger.....but was basically out of fruit, I was down to  my last banana......also was down to my last cucumber.....as prefer the "seedless" variety..also seen them labeled as "English" or "European" cucumbers, they're not as wet, last longer, and most of all you don't need to peel them.....also needed some butter....got some spreadable butter made with olive oil....an a small bottle of preserved artichokes.....but am now in for the day.......my computer, my TV and me...and of course my AC......

(11:41 UTC-4)
(+78*F....cloudy)
(My Mix off YouTube (link))
The mix I'm listening to is an eclectic to say the least...it run the gamut of music from Gregorian chant....Baroque.....Big Band..Umpapa....Gospel....acappella.....but stops abruptly some time in the mid-70s.....and steps over country music completely.....
Just a muggy day....and will get into the 80s as the day wears on.....reality humidity is 86% and the dew point is 73*F....ugh.....and if it wasn't for a nice breeze (10 MPH +/-) it would really be unbearable......not for me.....it's games  on my desktop, posting to my blogs, a little Facebook, and my AC....and the following 3 days are forecast to be much the same.....no walks just to walk.....only if I really need something.....downside is the only good thing on the old boob tube today is one of the "Bourne" movies but that doesn't air until 19:00 local time
I follow 6 groups on Facebook...one a pun group.....one a collection of Larsen cartoons and similar ones...on about the town I grew up in.....a group about an old online game which is no longer but some of the old gang still posts from time to time.......and a site for "Baby Boomers".....and one remembering the US in the 50s and 60s.......for those who aren't familiar with the term is the generation born in the US between 1946 & 1964.....which includes me.....

(12:11 UTC-4)
(+78*F......partly cloudy....wind 11 mph)
(now playing "The Martian" on FX)
Actual although the temperature is on the raise, with the breeze, was a very comfortable early walk, a little later then usual for me,  I never rolled out of bed until past 07:30 local time, late for me usually one side or the other of 06:15 local time, roll  out of bed to go to work time, and although I been retired for ages, still the habit of 30+ years prevails.....ah the walk....found a container of grated Romano cheese at Ollie's........now I just acquired a glass cheese shaker and went to fill the shaker and my essential tremors as per usual picked the most awkward time to effect me, and I dropped the shaker, and the grated cheese went everywhere, the downside of course was the mess, however the upside is the rooms smell wonderful.....I love me some Romano cheese.....
As to the Matt Damon movie "The Martian".....definitely along with the Jason Bourne movies all would find a place somewhere in my fav 25 movie list.....
   Nothing planned for the Labor Day weekend.......holiday Monday....wait a second.....I'm retired.....everyday is a holiday......
At one point, before I started on Facebook, I was "into" G+, over time I've left most of the groups I've followed on G+, until only two were still remain and one is a private family group...but the last public group.....has evolved into something that's not what it once had been, so today I dropped the group.....
