Watertown, NY, USA . "Public Square" (vintage, date unknown) but the monument is honoring veterans of the American Civil War so the date of the image is late 1800s

work went okay this morning, got outa there in two hours, played a little blogshares, and went out to do a little grocery shopping and eat lunch, but after i got the food stuffs i was looking for , just cam home and made a sandwich...
the last couple of weeks i've been cooking saturday afternoon for sunday meals.....sunday is usually very hectic and i just don't feel like cooking, and besides i usually make a fairly big pot of stuff so i have some quick meals the rest of the week, actually i won't have had to do it today, because i got an invite for dinner tomorrow at my daughters for fathers day...
what i tend to make is kind of a cross between a boiled dinner and soup.....there is always cabbage, onion and pasta/noodles in the mix and the rest varies according to what i have laying around or what i feel like throwing in, i had a couple of links of chorizos and was looking for some boiling beef but they didn't have what i was looking for so bought some hot italian sausage, those went in the pot, a few red skin potatoes as well, and decided to add a can of tomato paste this time, just salt, pepper, basil and a bit of nutmeg...putting nutmeg in tomato based soups/stews is an old tradition in my family and it adds a taste i like....but it just throw stuff in to test and then simmer it until very thing is on the verge of falling apart.....used red cabbage this time, usually use green but was looking for a small head of cabbage and all the green they had was way too big...besides the red gives the dish some color...
one of the things that bugs me about cooking for one, particularly from scratch is that it's had to find stuff in small enough sizes/packages....seems like the opinion is that if you cook from the raw ingredients, your cooking for an army....they should have singles only grocery stores, with sizes and packaging for the single......besides it would give me another place to try to pick up chicks.....
