Watertown, NY, USA . "Public Square" (vintage, date unknown) but the monument is honoring veterans of the American Civil War so the date of the image is late 1800s

Scientist fears 'genetic apartheid' i posted the link to an article a few days ago on what i thought were rather dangerous comments by a genetic scientist....apparently i wasn't the only one worried.

(below is a repost of that)

DNA Discoverer: Use Genetics To Improve IQ if i may qoute in part from the article ""If you really are stupid, I would call that a disease," James Watson, 75, the American biologist who in 1953 co-discovered the structure of the molecule for life with Britain's Francis Crick, was quoted by The Times of London as saying. The lower 10 percent who really have difficulty, even in elementary school, what's the cause of it? A lot of people would like to say, 'Well, poverty, things like that.' It probably isn't. So I'd like to get rid of that, to help the lower 10 percent."" i guess that orwell and huxley weren't that far off the mark, i don't know about you but that kind of perspective scares the hell out of me, i just don't think we know enough about it to go manipulating our genetic code, either by engineering or cloning....besides in science, particularly medical science, today's breakthrough all to often becomes tomorrow's nightmare.....

although our concerns are not identical...i glad that i'm not the only one who is worry about the possible effects of what has been embarked on.......it's about time we should learn the lesson that before we ask the question can we, we should answer the question should we
