There is an old adage that goes something like this "the best laid plans of mice and men"......and in this case as many times before this adage applies in spades to the MadTrollie.....I had really wanted to walk yesterday but the rain prevented me.....today no rain..and warming.....and my right foot is stiff.....oy vey.......
I was looking thru the TV listings and saw the movie "Transforms Age of Extinction" and the first thought that jumped to mind was "Oh Please"......lets get rid of them once and for all....
I use two different local radars.....to plan a good time to walk......but I have a proverbial bone to pick with both of them......the default setting is past radar......now why in the name of Abigail Adams would i want to know that.....I have a window.....now they both have a future setting...but why isn't that the default..silly trollie.....oy vey......

("Berlin Celebration Concert" 1989)
I found the piece I'm listening to in my recommends on YouTube this AM, it's Beethoven's IX....the "Ode to Joy".....played in this case to celebrate the fall of the Berlin Wall.....an interesting note is that at the conductor's ( Bernstein) suggestion in the choral part the word "freedom" was substituted for the word "Joy".....hence the "Ode to Freedom".....(note: sung in German.....with an orchestra made up of players from both East and West Germany....and some from the allies)
Last night on a close inspection of my "Summer" hat it is what we used to call "a bit shop-worn"..okay more then a bit, a snap brim hat, on the golf course referred to as a "Hogan Hat"......but I hesitate to wash it because I'm quite sure the that the material used to stiffen the brim is cardboard.....so decided to take a walk today and find a new one.....however the weather had another idea......a solid day of rain....so the "Quest for Hat" will have to wait 'til the morrow

(Elgar: "Enigma Variation")
This piece is interesting on to levels, Firstly: it's a beautiful piece of music....and Secondly: normal you have with this type of music you have..theme & variations......in this case Elgar starts off with variation #1, and never actually states the "theme".....which has caused as you might guess some speculation by people more versed in music then I...my 2 cents for what it's worth is that maybe variation #9.....is the theme "disguise".....but on the other hand 4 fingers and a thumb......
As a nice warm spring day until the rains came, but by then hand already did my shopping and taken another walk.....just to take a leisurely walk with out having to "bundle up".....

Just a warm, beautiful spring day.....very light winds which is unusual not only for spring in these parts, as where I live is a proverbial stones throw off the east end of Lake Ontario.....also the day that I've looked forward to since last October.....on my walks today.....no hoodie.....I have several of various thickness, and the hood helps block the windchill, and no woolen cap either.......now one of the lighter hoodies probably will see some duty before fall....but the heavy Carhart coat (w/hood) will spend the spring and summer months in well earned rest in the closet....i'll still from time to time complain about the weather, but it will be because of heat, humidity, and/or pollen count......whether because of my age, or because I no longer drive.....which because of my eye sight and night vision or rather lack of night vision I no longer do.....I get around on my own two feet as it were.....

(Beethoven: "Christ on the Mount of Olives" )
It's been a mixed day both weather wise and my state of mind.....I was frustrated early with both the weather, more rain, in particular  and my mood in general....I glad to report that both have improved greatly.....
I as fooling around earlier with changing my style of play....poker wise....with very poor results..the only bright side was that I wasn't playing with "real money"...but after my second walk I resolved to go back my time tested style, tight and slow play, keep the pot size as small as possible.....except when I have the proverbial "Hammer"......and in that case swing it......and made back virtually all my losses, I just need to slow down and be smarter about when to make an aggressive move........which is difficult sometimes to be patience, because of the speed of play.....but I think I'm figuring it out.......

One of the groups in this particular mix is an eight member acappella group called Voces8.....just found this group on YouTube within the last few days....the interesting thing about the group the alto parts are sung by two countertenors, they are very good,
The weather today was as predicted warm but rainy, okay so the weather report got this one right, hadn't planned to walk regardless..
I have mentioned this a couple times but over the last six months have made some life style changes......I guess that even at 70 years old, the old dog can learn new tricks....except for the pain and stiffness from old sport/occupational injuries.....I feel better then I when I was a mere lad of 60....and even the joints have been better......and then the big one.....today marks 6 months sober...

Finally after the ridicules mess winter and the first month of spring the weather has put us through finally a beautiful spring day.....had planned to walk today because thee next two days are predicted for rain, but awoke this morning to a sore left foot with a twist.....not the usually culprits, but the ankle..although the problem there ( which I'm only reminded of rarely )....not a bad twisted ankle.....but I rolled said ankle so bad that I scraped the skin with covers the little ball scraped bone on the inside of the ankle.....at about 1 mile into a planned 10 mile training run, which I finish, sat down and the ankle grew about 3 sizes.....but that was approximately 48 years ago (+/-).....and can't remember the last time it bothered me.....but it loosened up enough for me to talk my walk.....it did bother me later, but a bag of ice put that to rights......

Beautiful Spring day....took a brief walk....and in the process heard a bird song/call I had never heard before...or at least I don't remember hearing it before......didn't get a clear view of the bird..and the little guy won't hold still long enough to get a positive look but jumped on the net and after a bit of research found what I'm pretty confident this was the little rascal.....the sound i heard was a "weep weep" and the most likely candidate was the "Least Flycatcher" and once I saw the picture I'm reasonably sure that's the bird I heard/saw ( see photo at bottom of page)..besides I have a wise old owl...an orthodox parrot here.....why not a "Least Flycatcher".....I mean it's the least I could do.....

(Byrd: Mass for 4&5 voices)
Weather is definitely improving, although a bit nippy this AM.....by noon temperatures in the mid 50s......no reason to walk today.....but then when did I ever need an excuse to walk on a nice day......
I posted on Facebook a blurb about how I can still remember because of the dairy lobby you couldn't buy margarine the same color as butter, and it came with a dye pack.....one of the comments brought up the old complaint that margarine was one molecule away from plastic.....while it is true that margarine has a similar backbone structure to plastic..so does butter.....and for that matter any of our bodies fatty acids......the whole "scare" was a ploy by the dairy lobby to discredit a product they saw as a threat.....that is why fact checking is so important...that kind of thing is still going on today.....if you read what can only be described as an attack on a product, or a belief....fact check it....yourself.....don't accept the word of another that says they have fat checked it, and it's true or false....even me......besides I never knowingly use margarine....for one simple fact.....I prefer the taste of butter...(link)/(link)

I know if you've read this before, however today was one of those times when how we perceive things is relative to our experiences......I walked twice today both times the temperature was in the mid 40s F.....and wind chill in the high 30s F....but it actually felt quite pleasant, coming off 4 months of winter weather, but lets look forward until September or October on the first day that the high temperature is mid 40's F, and we will perceive that day as quite chilly.....how two people see the same event, or condition is relative to their experiences. or how we as individuals can look at similar events or conditions and react to the two completely different.....

(Mozart:"Requiem in D minor)
The Mozart Requiem is an amazing piece of liturgical music, with an interesting "back story", he had started the composition of the piece and sketched out the parts he hadn't completed.....and it remained unfinished at the time of his death, and then the funny begins.....in point of fact this issue is one of the major plot lines in the movie  "Amadeus"....if you're interested you can start here.......
I went to bed around 10 last night, awoke just before 6 this AM.......and decided there was no point in rolling back over, so started the morning ritual......in point of fact needed to get something from a 24/7 store so walked just after 6.....had checked the weather and if I waited until 2 PM it would have been all of 40*F instead of 32*F.......from the forecast the days starting tomorrow are going to  be more "Spring Like"......it's about time.....

(Beethoven:"Christ on the Mount of Olives)
I've basically been stuck in my lodgings since Monday AM, multiple issues, the weather and my chronic and reoccurring problem with my feet, they don't bother me all the time, but when it flairs up, really restricts my mobility.....the crew that is changing over the TV service here from dish back to cable was in mid-afternoon to install the hookup in my rooms.....don't know when the actually change over will happen.....but after they left, feet were behaving themselves....of rather were behaving well, so took a quick walk over to Aldi to pickup a few groceries.....
I'm very careful where I go online, to avoid the possibility of picking up a computer virus.......also cuts down on spam......but over the last few weeks rather then maybe 4 or 5 spam emails a day.......the amount of spam has increased to 35+ per day......I've begun to play on two "free" sites, neither of which run any ads......the one slots.......does offer to exchange some of my real money for game coins.....which is not going to happen.....the other site a "free" poker site......no real money changes hands.....but I wonder if one or both of the sites are selling email addresses......?????......the spam covers the gamut from "free?" offers to those that offer me great deals......and some are a chance for "free" chat and/or private photos......oy vey

(Best of Smetana)
It had been my firm intent to walk today, few things I would have liked to to pick up, and the weather while not perfect, no rain/snow/winter mix......however my feet had a different plan, when I awoke this morning the both of them were quietly sing the song of "Pain & Stiffness"....not very loudly...and way out of tune.....but just loud enough to get my attention......so unless they loosen up as the day goes on....will wait til the morrow....
On one of the Facebook groups I follow, one of the members posted a rather critical post that nobody takes the time to write a post anymore, but expresses themselves in memes.....and it is true to a greater or less extent depending on the group or Facebook in general.....came to the same a conclusion I reached months ago....and then realized that the personally written "post" is what blogging is for in the first place......so on Facebook I "speak" in memes.....and here have removed most of the memes and "clip art"......heaven knows I've tried, but the owl and the orthodox parrot just won't leave.....anyways extended entries on Facebook just make no sense to me.....so the memes stay in Facebook....and my self written gibberish remains here, and my other two blogs.....besides if there is something I'd like my FB friends to see, I can always post a link to the entry on Facebook......

(Best of Wagner)
Late last night my right foot was yelling at me..whether the walk or the weather or it was it's turn.......my joints tend to take turns bugging me....but it was still stiff this AM but has loosened up quite a bit........didn't plan on walking today anyways
Weather forecast is still mixed and on the cold/damp side...but starting Monday the forecast is for several days in a row with highs in the mid to high 50s, and overnight lows in the 40s.....I've lived in this area too long to get to excited about the forecast, plus I have little if any confidence in forecasts....but if true.....it looks like Spring is coming, belatedly.....but I'm not going to be sure or make plans until I see it with these old nearsighted eyes.......
Someone posted a blurb on Facebook that Barbara Bush had passed, and listing CNN breaking news as the source......first of all I get breaking news emails from CNN, FOX, & NPR.....and saw nothing about it.....I had read she was in failing health..plus the link was dead......did some digging and sure enough just more "fake news", just another internet hoax ......one of the thing that drives me nuts with social media......is peeps post anything and everything they come across with out fact checking, it's probably both my mind set, and also my education, but I accept nothing as fact until I do my research and can make my on judgement on its veracity, got me in deep waters more then once when I was in a Bible school run by a particular baptist denomination, because after much research on my part I kept coming to erroneous conclusions, well at least from their rather rigid point of view....I have a major problem accepting something is "set in stone".....without making up my own mind on an issue whether it's religious, political or social......

I'm not addicted to YouTube, I mean I only have subscriptions to 156 channels, I mean I think I've used great restraint, considering the huge number of channels available....well it's my story, and I ain't changing it....
It's been raining, snowing, sleeting, but at least no hell fire and brimstone.....but caught a break in the weather and took a walk to pickup a few things, and had a very close call, ok on my way back to my lodgings it was just before dusk, and was , misting, but I had a light color windbreaker on, no I'm not sure why this happened, but I was in a legal crosswalk with the walk light in my favor, and a driver either didn't look or was not paying attention, or in a hurry, no clue, but took off probably for a left hand turn way too fast for the wet conditions, and if I hadn't been watching his Audi, and stopped short, I'd be a hood ornament......good grief..and oy gavalt.....I guess if you're in a hurry and driving a luxury car, you and not the pedestrian has the right of way......

(Bach: Mass in B minor)
We got a some freezing rain last night, maybe a 1/4" or so......no power outages right here but I'm sure there were some...obviously the "wobbly walker" that I am, was not dumb enough to even stuck so much as a toe outside, and with rain and snow predicted thru Friday morning, In all probability will be in my rooms until then....unless I can catch an hour or to when the snow and/or rain abates........but with temperatures in the mid-40s and rain, the ice should be gone by late tomorrow.....although I stock up for events like this, will probably run low or out of perishables, but got more then enough canned goods to eat well......and more then enough meds to last the week......

Just lovely weather we're having plus for the next week until Saturday, some or all of the following will occur, rain, freezing rain, snow, "winter mix", & high winds....looks like there might be a "window" for me to take a walk Wednesday thru Friday...before the weather breaks on next Saturday.....now I'm stocked up pretty good, except for bananas, but as per usually the forecast maybe subject to change, but whether better or worse.....I'd call it a coin flip.....now bad weather is not uncommon up here in April or even early May for that matter..but this winter has been no doubt on of the weirder ones that I remember in my 70+ years....

(a "Lord Peter Wimsey" episode)
I had not intended to walk today, needed a few things but the timing of the shopping made more sense if I walked tomorrow, had nothing to do with triskaidekaphobia something I do not suffer from, but in the process of my morning ritual of checking the weather forecast, being a walker, and wanting to avoid rain/snow/winter mix.....et al.....rain was beginning this mid-afternoon and thru Saturday changing late afternoon to winter mix......I may not have a fear of 13, however I definitely have a fear of slipping in wet or icy conditions and falling on my butt....this stems in part from taking a fall on ice a few years back and pretty much destroying my left shoulder.....so is it fear or just not wanting to take the chance as it were.....as they used to say back in the day....."6 to 1 and half dozen to the other".......so just back from shopping...

( Brahms: "A German Requiem" )
Has been a mixed bag king of day, nice this morning, then rain this afternoon, and now the rain has abated, but it's still quite dreary....
Resolved to take a brake from the poker and slots games I play on line, except to collect the bonus that drop at regulated intervals, although I did play the required number of hands (16) to gain an advantage with the poker bonus.....may play a little later but......as to the slots I need to amass a large stake to really play effectively...which the game will generously do......that is if I'm will to exchange real money for game coins......but since there is no way to exchange game coins for real money...I'll pass....so much for "free game"
While I was shopping this AM, I got a bottle of Kalamata olives, (oops, another word that spell check doesn't recognize), already pitted, I have the standard green olives with the pimento, but I like the kalamata for certain things...but it reminds me of a story from years ago,
We had invited a couple we knew for dinner, and had gotten a nice olive assortment, pits not removed, and so warned them of the fact, now the lady was a sweet thing but to put it simply was not the brightest bulb in the package.....she honestly thought that olives grew with the pimento inside...oy vey.....

A nice day out til mid-afternoon when the rains or predicted to fall......not really need for a walk....but probably come up with an excuse to walk anyways.....
The other day on Facebook I was looking for a "not equals sign" no luck however I just discovered on blogger (≠).....also found Greek and Hebrew letters......this could get interesting.....very interesting......

(The Best of Tallis)
It's been a very typical Tuesday...housekeeping was in to do the weekly cleaning and fresh linens........didn't walk out today and spent most of the day playing online poker.....no real money changes hands......but since the game has only been back up for a couple of days.....the number of players is down, each table holds 10 players, and since its return it's hard to find one with more the 3 or 4 players....to use a poker term I'm a tight player......I rarely take any big risks......I try only to play good start hands.....but with just a few players the play is sometimes "helter skelter" and my normal full table style doesn't work so well......but have basically had a good day......
Based on the extended forecast rain is predicted for the next 7 days.......I guess April Showers are finally upon us......one of those days it may be in flake form......however in a couple of cases rain is only predicted after noon.....so will pick and choose when to brave the average mid 40s temperature, to get groceries, I have adequate storage for non-perishables, but food that needs to be kept cold and/or frozen is a differnt matter....limited refrigerator space.....but will work something out...maybe a call to my sis or bro.....but live in the area.....

Decided to walk today, despite the right foot was bothering me a little, but decided to reverse my normal route and stop close first and decide, but foot really wasn't any worse so complete the long ou and back.....although it was the foot that bothered me Saturday, I think it was more the high wind/wind chill that was the real culprit...
The poker site I was playing which was down for a few days...with some of the "bells & whistles" removed, plays just a tad different, but still is the best site I've found.....
"Operation Pacific"..a sub movie w/John Wayne starts on TCM in a few minutes so I'm off ( there are those who would say I've been off for years, but that's another subject entirely )

( Final round coverage of the Masters)
Been watching more "boob tube" today then usual...some reruns of "Law and Order"...then for awhile was bouncing between the friendly between The US and Mexico ( the ladies won 6-2) and the Masters but with none of the pros I follow in the hunt, it just deserves a quick look from time to time and between the reruns and the bouncing watched the movie "Zoom" not my typical watch however I freely admit to watching or not watching a flick based on the cast.....did I mention that Kate Mara was in the flick......okay anyone whose read this slag heap I call my blog nows that:
1) I'm not dead
2) I may be too old to do anything about it
3) but I'm not too old to look
4) or to remember
After the problems with my foot yesterday, it's back to what I refer to as the new normal, never will be like it was when I was younger.....thought about walking out but the weather was pretty much same-same as yesterday, some I did listen to my better judgement, which I ignored yesterday with negative results...but the weather looks from the forecast to be on the raise.....maybe in the 50s next weekend..so will probably walk the coming week...

I pride myself with being relatively intelligent, but every so often I pull a stunt that reminds me that even I can be mistaken.....I needed to walk today for 2 things, the rest could have waited....but created 3 shopping lists...3 different stops.....was going to wait until it warmed up a little (temperature as I write this is about as warm as it's been all day)......but got antsy and walked just after nine.....when I awoke this AM my right foot was stiff and muttering quiet curse words...but had loosened up a bit.....and usual a walk will loosen it up more.....so considered to cut the trip short......but went for it.....well to make a long story short...I obviously miss calculated..I took the long walk and by the time I got back my right foot was screaming at the top of its' lungs.....took an hour and one half nap.....it's better....but oy vey

Back to the deep freeze, but at least the winds have abated from the 30mph range....although a check off yesterday's weather revealed gusts in the 60+MPH range in the area..haven't heard of any major damage.....haven't walked outside since Monday, and really need to take a walk to pickup a few items....but will wait until mid-afternoon when it warms up a little if low 30s with a wind chill in the low 20s.....if that can qualify as warm..oy vey......
We have snow in the forecast for tomorrow, yes sometimes our April Showers present themselves in frozen form.....but not until midday...so I should have no real difficulty taking the short walk to my semi-annual checkup with the doctor....

(Bach: Mass in B minor)
I was always musical vocally, and while in grade school sang in both school choirs, kids choirs, and duets with my sis...but started piano at a young age....when I entered Junior high started taking French Horn lessons from the band teacher ( hereafter referred to as Mr A ).....made band at the end of 7th grade.....but also sang with Junior High Chorus, and two church choirs....no conflict with band.....but in 9th grade i would have moved up to Senior High Chorus, and became first chair horn in the band, and they rehearsed at the same time, and although some of the "lower chairs" were allowed to split time between the two..I was not....so I chose band ( was still sing with 2 choirs at church, and the church "orchestra" )
At the start of my Senior year because of the loss of musicians to graduation, band dropped from playing grade 6 music to grade 5.......and I probably could have sight read the music and played in a concert, however I also was playing in school with a woodwind quintet.....and I wanted to continue that.....so I hatched a plot...I went to the chorus director and asked if I could be in chorus 2 days a week..he agreed but asked if I had talked to Mr A yet....I said no I just wanted to get your approval first....I said it's either 2 days chorus and 3 days band...or 5 days chorus....chorus was singing some Bourque pieces which I wanted to be part of........well Mr A agreed...
However it did present some difficulties.....at the Senior High Christmas concert, 5 groups were performing and I was in 4 of them....each wearing different outfits......many runs to the boys locker room.....but it was fun, and I enjoyed every minute....my Senior year between church and school I sang or played with 7 different groups....and that didn't count Sectional band and All-County chorus.....

(an episode of "Lord Peter Wimsey" (a different one then earlier))
Rain has stopped for a few hours, but they've updated the forecast and between 7AM & 9AM we are predicted to have a thunderstorm.....about the time I usually awake.....probably would be redundant to set my alarm clock..oy vey.....the wind direction means the storm will come of the east end of Lake Ontario which is due west of where I live, and thunderstorms up here can be quite violent.....
Most of the quizzes you can take off Facebook are a joke......I love the type which tells me I can't get more then 10 out of 15 correct, and I almost always get 15/15, and by enlarge those difficult quizzes i find to contain questions that I would consider common knowledge......I think the whole purpose is to get you to look at the ads that are all over their pages.....I just took a web based free IQ test, and the results were basically dead on with what results I have gotten before on regular IQ tests that I've take during my trips down the "halls of learning"...and no I'm not going to reveal the number.....
( you can find at the bottom of the page a picture of some of the damage in this area 7/15/95, a severe thunderstorm, which qualified as a microburst )

(an episode of "Lord Peter Wimsey)
Has been raining on and of for the last hour or so and according to predictions will continue through tomorrow noon and then high winds and the possibility of either rain or snow Wednesday evening.....I stocked up yesterday and won't need to go out until Thursday at the earliest, or even Friday or Saturday...will need to get out Friday if only for my semi-annual checkup with my doctor.....hopefully just routine.....the forecast calls for snow changing to rain Friday so I need to keep an eye on that..and may have to make other arrangements rather then me walking, my appointment is for 8:45, if it is only snow or light rain I'll probably walk.....but that's a concern for another day.....

( a "Lord Peter Wimsey" episode )
Took a long walk this AM....basically on a quest for the elusive banana..now I don't know how many people know this but bananas are picked green, and ripened on the trip to market in special insulated and climate controlled containers, discovered that years back when i was running a shipping and receiving dept for an irrigation company...and one of our customers was a banana grower, and when we shipped product to them it was on one of the specially build containers....anyways a have a banana for first meal everyday, and the place I do most of my shopping in, gets their bananas in a not quite ripe condition....so when I have 2 bananas left....I've got pretty good at picking the not quite ripe bananas that will be ripe on the 3rd day.....but not over ripe when I finish the hand.....( or bunch if you prefer....both terms are correct..but I grew up using the term hand ).......the price is not the really factor, although the price is a little cheaper, but that store is closer to my lodgings......and I do most of my food shopping there.......

(+33*F...w/wind chill)
( a "Lord Peter Wimsey" episode )
Been a quite day so far.....decided I wasn't in the mood to take a walk, really didn't want to deal with the weather today, but awoke with a left foot that was a tad stiff, and from experience realized that if I did walk it would losing up....so walked the halls of the establishment where I live
TNT is showing all 7 (or should I use VII) episodes of Star Wars from episode I thru VII......a binge watches dream.....but I have watched a little, but first: I'm not a huge Star Wars fan. and second: the first episode started at 2:28 AM.......unless it was a "Game of Thrones" or a "Westworld" marathon...there is no way I even consider getting up that to watch 20+ straight hours of anything
On my shopping trip yesterday I got two of my fav foods....Gravlax and Spaetzle.....the Spaetzle will be devoured at a later time, but some of the Gravlax...was eaten for first meal...lightly toasted bagel, cream cheese, a couple of cracks of black pepper, a dash of dill weed, and some capers.....
Spaetzle if you're not familiar with it is basically german gnocchi......( oh Gravlax....this was from Norway....in the USofA commonly referred to as lox......but lox is also used as an abbreviation for liquid oxygen....both useful items...but hardly interchangeable )
