   Got involved last night re-arranging some of my playlists on Youtube and never got to bed until nearly 21:00 and as would be expected never awoke until nearly 05:00 this morning and when I checked into the FB group "The Farthest Side" there were far more new member requests to deal with than has been /usual of late,,but despite all the obstacles I was done with all but the games I play on "World of Solitaire" just after 11:30..checked the weather..windchill was 2*F and decided to walk over to the ATM & get my "10 day walking around money"..had to take the long way because the snow has made my short-cuts impassible..back and breezed thru the games had a sandwich and off in the other direction to the convenience store..Ollie's & Dollar General..the windchill had warmed up to a balmy 4*F..actually except for some icy conditions on some of the sidewalks the walk was quite pleasant..me and my Carhart handled the conditions quite well..besides I have a pair of winter shoes that have tread on them that a four wheel drive tire would be envious of..some mouthwash & dish washing detergent at Ollie's..(note to self..under no circum-stances get those two things mixed up and grab the wrong bottle(hehe))..and at Dollar General a six-pack of 7.3 oz. cans of Dr Pepper..3 packages of cookies & a card of pens...and back to my rooms..../....Have everything basically done and BBC America is showing the movie "The Patriot" this evening..starting in just a few minutes..which I intent to watch in it's entirety..ergo..I'll take my leave of you..[have taken my leave if my senses years ago]..&..wish you a "good night"....[16:22]..../....

   I got a more normal start on the day than/usual..and was finished with my Sim&Solitaire games by just before 13:00 and since I hadn't ventured out of my warm and cozy rooms save for some visits to the lobby for various reasons was starting to feel the effects of "cabin fever" so decided to take a check of the weather and the current temperature at that time was +16*F & the windchill was +6*F and decided that me and the Carhart and wool cap  couldn't handle that no-sweat as we used to say back in the day..ergo..took the walk to Aldi and got everything I needed..even remembered the butter..but unfortunately the champagne cheddar was gone..drat..but did get another piece of the Pinot Grigio cured dry italian salami..and had a couple of chats with two of the "kids" that work there..and then back home to my rooms..had a sandwich of some dry italian salami on a ciabatta roll.. green onion..black olives..and smoky gouda cheese..salt..pepper..red wine vinegar..evoo..basil..oregano..red pepper flake and some sweet hot mustard..75 sec. in the microwave and a can of Dr. Pepper..salt of choice today was himalayan black sea salt..it got a slight different "tang" to it than regular salt..[link]..I also have the pink himalayan sea salt.. Mediterranean kosher sea salt..grey salt..and several different salt/spice mixes..not to mention black.. mixed..green & white pepper corns..and to many spices and hot sauces to mention..and eat simply but I love me some spicy food..although as I grow older I have learned to use them in moderation..because while I still love spicy foods..sometimes now they don't love me back..so now sometimes less is better..or at least from my stomach's point of view..../....just a few loose ends to tie off and with nothing on TV worth my time tonight will probably kick around Youtube & Goggle Images for awhile and probably another session on "Pokerist"..and a meal.. before I take my rest..ergo.."nite all"....[16:02 UTC-5]..../.....

   It's been a cold day here in the Northcountry of NYS..but a sunny one..the windows in my room face to the south and this time of the year at with the latitude being 43.9748* North..the sun does get very high in the sky and it felt like it was shining directly into my rooms..just a little to bright for my liking so I've had the drapes closed most of the day..../....Now with the "Wind Chill Advisory" in affect until noon today I had no intention of leaving my rooms atall..but this more I got to thinking..dummkopf..you haven't paid you rent for next month yet..although it's nor technically due..I usually paid about a week ahead..if I think about it.. which I hadn't..anyways..went up just after 06:00 and got it paid..because of my essential tremors..my writing which was never very good has become depending on the day somewhere between hieroglyphics & hen scathing..ergo..I let the desk guy fill in the check and I sign it..after checking it of course..and to my great surprise this morning the signature was as legible as it can be.. when I got my meds the other day I had to sign on a glass vertical screen with a stylus pen..it looked more like a jumbled ball of string than a signature..oy vey....got a quick start to the day and then I only played on Pokerist for 23 minutes rather than the usual hour plus..the game froze mid-game..and because I had already complete the 2 "Quests" for the day decided to leave it there and not look for another table..ergo..I've been just kicking around the internet and watching a little TV..just sitting back and being a little lazy for a change..just a few things left to do and will  probably take another go at a session of poker..the forecast is for the continuation of the cold weather thru Sunday afternoon so have no intention of venturing outside until then or even Monday..have plenty of grub until then..besides there's always delivery..ergo.."nite  all"....[16:31 UTC-5]..../....

   My brother birthday is today and posted on his FB timeline the story of the trip my mom and dad wade in the middle of the night thru a bad snow storm to get mom to the hospital about 25 miles away..dad got here in the hospital and went to park the car.. when he got back he was asked if he'd like to see his son..they had gotten there in the nick of time as it were..but it reminded me of a wild ride I took about 45 years ago..../....I was working on the 16:00 to 00:30 shift and as it was a Saturday it was my lob t shut the plant down as we never worked Saturdays and check with the night watchman before I left..now white tail deer season opened in the Southern Tier on that coming Monday and the wife and I were planning to go down to Wellsville NY to hunt the next week with her dad (had the week off)..now the first part went fine Interstates from Watertown..to just south of Rochester..and the regular road the rest of the way..well just past Letchworth State Park the road drops into the Genesee River..and we hit "pea-soup" fog..couldn't see more than 30 feet ahead..so I'm crawling along at 15 mph in my ford pinto and just past Houghton were I had spent a semester at the college there a few years before..I don't know if I saw something or what but I stopped and pulled off on the shoulder..wife asked what was wrong..didn't know just didn't feel right.got out of car walked about 20 feet and there in the middle of the road was a farm cow..oy vey..went to the farm house..got the farmer we got the old girl back in the pasture..had a couple of cups of coffee and off we went to finish the trip..friends told me it was my "Guardian Angel" they also say that my "Guardian Angel" deserves to receive "Hazardous Duty Pay"..which probably at times isn't far from the truth..../....still a couple of things need my attention before I take my rest..ergo.."nite all"....[16:24 UTC-5].../....

   After checking the weather this morning and the extended forecast and a quick look out the back door to see if the possible freezing drizzle predicted for overnight had indeed occurred..while we did have a couple inches of fresh powder there was no evidence of any freezing drizzle/rain..and a look at the extend forecast call for lower temperatures with daytime highs in the lower teens to single digits and overnight lows in the -F* range..and came to the immediate decision that as I needed to go to Aldi sometime during the next couple of days it better be today..and just before 09:00 was all but finished with the "Spade" sim I play..had already played a session on Pokerist and had finished today's posting s to "Trollie's Game Room"..that it was the right time to get bundled up and head towards Aldi was obvious..on the way there there were a couple inches of snow cover on the sidewalks..but under city ordinance the property owner has 24 hours after the snow stops to clear the walks..and the snow had only stopped a couple of hours before..but was pleasantly surprised that on the way back about 30 minutes later those that I crossed had been recently cleared..I had intended to just get bananas..liquid egg-whites..a couple of bottle of sparkling water..a bottle of flavoring for water and a block of white cheddar and butter (which I forgot to get) but the asparagus looked fresh..they had a small piece of Champagne cheddar on markdown..and a brick of Havarti w/dill and a piece of italian dry salami aged in Chianti also snuck in to my bag..as concerning the Champagne cheddar..I tried a piece when I got  back to my rooms..had never had it..and if they still have some left next time I'm there will grab a couple more and store it..truly excellent..../....after I got back made a couple of open face sandwiches which I ate while continuing to finish up my solitaire play..and had a rustic frittata which included asparagus while watching the first part of "Now You See Me" and I'm freshly showered and medicated..and have the rest of the day to kick around the internet..maybe more poker before I take may rest..ergo.."nite  all"....[16:45 UTC-5]..../....

   What a different day all round from yesterday..rolled out of bed preciously @04:00..and with no walks penciled in for the day got right into my online day..only interruptions would be a trip or two to the lobby breakfast/toffee coffee & the weekly visit from housekeeping..checked FB..started the daily posting to "Trollie's Game Room"..and off to play "Pokerist" but unlike yesterday except briefly it was an all-in free-for-all and I got my "Guests"..played an hour and booked it..then to "Spades"..played one more game than yesterday and finished in a short time..and then of to Solitaire..in fact if I hadn't been interrupted by housekeeping I would have been finished before 13:00..which is both a good thing or a bad thing depending on your particular point of view..It's given me lots of time to wander around Google Images & Youtube..and I suspect that I'll be bombarding my FB timeline with so of the nutty and off-beat humor of which I'm fond..and maybe a little will sneak in here as well..../....So the story goes a gent was on Safari in Africa and while strolling thru the jungle happened to see Tarzan..who was painting white stripes on black Zebras & black stripes on white Zebras..when he inquired about this with one of the  local residents the guy  replied "Don't You Know "Tarzan Stripes Forever?""..which lead me to find a neat arrangement/video of the march..[link]..and actually these wanderings actually started yesterday when I found this crazy song from my youth [link]..../....anyways..maybe some TV..another go on "Pokerist" and a meal are in my future before I take my rest..ergo.."nite all"....]16:18 UTC-5]

   It has been a very busy..crazy day..never got online until 04:25..not as late as yesterday..but between checking in on the FB group "The Farthest Side" and posting yesterdays Sims & Solitaire results it was nearly 05:30..and found a table that except for a few minutes at the end of the session was playing my kind of game..very little in the way of pre-flop nonsense (aka:all-ins) but aggressively played post-flop..and rather than the /usual hour+ played 2 hours..well by the time I got those results posted it was after 09:00..now I was planning to walk to Price Chopper & T J  Maxx sometime this week..needed to get my HBP prescription filled..and just to see if anything was new and interesting at T J Maxx,,today was mid-20s F sunny ..and little if any wind..and tomorrow has snow predicted for the majority of the daylight hours..so decided to take the walk and do it today..some peppers..shallots..a boule & a bottle of sweet-hot mustard..of which I am fond..I had about half a bottle left and as I usually only get to Price Chopper once every week to ten days got a bottle today..and at T J Maxx a bottle and founds a bottle oriental sweet chili sauce..which was really nice on a dry salami sandwich I had mid-afternoon..so I got back and off to play a Spade Sim that I play everyday..usually a minimum of four games..but today my computer generated partner was either failing its' part of the bid or making way too many bags..and the four games took way longer than/usual..and when I finished play on another site..was past 14:00..had the aforementioned sandwich and by the time I finished play on the third site I play..solitaire games..it was after 16:30..another meal a re-run of "Law & Order" on  BBC-America...and then setup my stats' sheet for tomorrow..checked the weather and sat down to compose this post..so at this point my usual PM session of poker will either not be played or be truncated severely..still have to check back in on FB ..ergo.."nite all"....[18:54 UTC-5]..../.....

   I was a little later then normal turning in last night about 20:15 but have done that before and still awake one side or the other of 04:00..well I rolled over and checked the clock just after 03:00 and decided..too early..and rolled back over..well the next time I saw the clock it was 05:00..oy vey..but with a slight re-arrange of the normal order I do things in was done with most everything by just before 14:00..and although the temperature was in the mid-teens..a beautiful sunny day and no wind..so decided To take a walk and since I normal don't just walk with no intended "mid-point" decided there were a couple of things I needed from Ollie's and besides had received last week a coupon worth a 15% discount off one complete purchase..and I did get a few things I wasn't looking for did get the item(s)..I have been using flexible plastic sheets made for the preparation of veggies and other items for cooking..they are very easy to keep clean and for transferring the pieces to the cooking dish..but after at time the get scratched and marred..usually last a year or so..and I was due for a new set..also got a couple more bottles of the imported lemon juice I mentioned in a former post..and a bag of Cheddar potato chips flavored with horseradish..they don'y always have them and I pickup a bag when the do..and off to Dollar General..a couple of pocket pies..a Heath bar..and a bag of hard candies..and back to the rooms..and really enjoyed the walk..../....just a few more things to attend to..ergo.."nite all"....[17:19 UTC-4]..../....

   I got another late start to the day..but had a hard time falling asleep last night to the fact that I overslept a little again wasn't a real surprise..was done with most of my online activities by just before 14:00 and made a meal and watched the end of the 3rd episode of Star Wars,,with the intent of watching "X-Men The Last Stand" at 15:00 (on SyFy)..started to watch and then remembered I only like the last half of the flick..ergo..despite the fact that the temperature was +8*F..and with the windchill factored in it "felt like" +2*F..being an old hand at dressing for cold temperatures..I've lives in the freezer we call the Northcountry since July of 1966..and have been here ever since..save for 9 semesters of college all spent in the northeastern section of the USA..and besides it was a beautiful..bright..sunny day..usual is when temperature is in the single digits or lower..and knew I could take the short walk  to  Aldi..pickup my groceries and be back for the last half of the flick ..the part I like..just the usual fare save for a piece of a very nice dry italian salami that was cured in part in Pinot Grigio (apparently spell check is not schooled in italian wines)..made a quick sandwich when I got back..very nice..hadn't had it before but it's definitely a "keeper"..../....now I've gotten around and worked outside in the winter up here on days when it was -25*F & a -40*F windchill..if you know how to dress for it..you can do it..but I confess that there was one day in the middle '70s when the city was shutdown because of the temperature..the temperature was -55*F and there were 50 mph winds..windchill in excess of -100*F..and they said that frostbite & hypothermia could set-in in under a minute..and I was in no mood to prove them right or wrong..but truth be told at this point in my life..I don't handle extreme cold or heat for that matter as I once did..if the temperature or windchill is below 0*F..I stay in my warm rooms..and if the temperature is over 80*F with the humidity over 80% I stay in my cool rooms..I have a HVAC unit..../....The hour is growing late and I'm contemplating another short session of poker..ergo.."nite all"....[18:51 UTC-5]..../....

   One look at the overnight lows for today & tomorrow being in the single digits & add to that winds from the northwest @10+ mph..I don't even want to know what the windchill would be..../....Well we didn't get near the amount of snow predicted..and by 14:00 the snows had ceased and for the most part the sidewalks and parking lots were wet but no snow..just a couple of spots..so decided to at least take the walk to the ATM and get my "10 day walking around money" and a little extra because I need to refill the prescription for one of my meds within the next week..will just probably pick the first decent day..but with all my shortcuts impassable had to take the long way around..but had also taken my sling bag with me in case both conditions permitted it and I was feeling ok..but was feeling better than ok..the walk and fresh air had done its' trick and I extended the walk to make a stop at Dollar General..again the long way around..a jug of tomato juice..a bottle of Gatorade Zero & a 6-pack of 7.5 oz. cans of Dr Pepper..so as I was walking back to the hotel and still in the plaza park-ing lot a nice lady offered me a ride..I thanked her but explained I only had a short way to go and needed the exercise..after getting back to my rooms and getting my purchases away and doing a little math in my budget book..did fell a tad stiff..but with the weather being what it had been of late I haven't gotten enough exercise..but a hot shower and some topical analgesic cream and all seems to be well..as a former soccer mid-fielder..track and long distance runner..sore and stiff joints and muscles and I are old "friends" and I know what to do to quell their complaining..probably be a tad stiff tomorrow morning..but then at my age I'm usually a little stiff every morning..there are mornings that I think I may have past the use:by:date on my body..(hehe)..../....Most of today's tasks are completed..a couple more checks of FB..another meal.. maybe some more poker before I take my rest..ergo.."nite all"....[17:11 UTC-5]..../....

   I sleep much better last night then the last couple..awoke with nothing more than the/usual stiffness of a 73+ year old back..but slept a little too good maybe..never rolled out of bed until past 04:30..but with the impending weather and neither a need nor a desire to venture out of the warmth and safe rooms..save for a trip to the lobby to get my afternoon toffee coffee..didn't need to go up for breakfast items..I only do that every other day and pickup things for 2 days..the staffs' idea and I works well for me besides..so by just after 12:30 had the greater bulk of my online tasks completed..and have spent the rest of the day just kicking around..played just short of two hours of Pokerist this afternoon..more often than not just play a morning session..watched a couple of episodes of "Pawn Stars" on the History Channel..and kicked around Youtube adding videos to my various playlists..and tending my duties as a moderator on the FB groups "The Farthest Side" and of course tending to my blogs..../....in theory tomorrow is the day I would by rota go to the ATM to pickup my "10 day walking around money"..but with forecast and the fact that I've not been outside the hotel I live in..I have sufficient funds and food for that matter for a few days..and besides..both Aldi & Price Chopper deliver..and I have 2 debit cards..so no worries.. except of course of a sudden outbreak of the Zombie Apocalypse..(hehe)..seriously it amazes me that peeps get so involved in the multiple TV shows and movies about zombies..sorry mate..they're a figment of your imagination..there don't exist..but I guess they may qualify for "mindless entertainment..not mine to be sure..../....Maybe some TV..or a couple more games of Spades..but differently a meal before I take my rest..ergo.."nite all".....[17:52 UTC-5]..../....

   We did get a little fresh snow overnight..maybe 2 to 3 inches max..and although the sidewalks and spots in the parking lots were snow covered they weren't at all slippery so although I did slow my normal pace down a tad id was actually a very pleasant walk to Aldi..windchills were in the upper teens but was warm and comfortable encased in my hooded Carhart coat..and the sun was shining brightly..there is some thing about bright sun bouncing of fresh fallen snow that always seems intense to me..I guess it's the reflect off the snow..pretty much the usual fare save for a nice piece of imported Swiss cheese..and although I'm am a world class packer..years running a shipping department and very high scores in the cognitive skill spatial relationships..even I was a little surprised I got every thing in my sling bag..but did manage it..but I carry a cloth bag for the very purpose just in case..also if I buy chips I put them in the cloth bag to avoid crushing them..and back to my rooms..../....am running a little late today but when this post is finished the bulk of the days online and offline tasks will be completed..and maybe an episode or two more of the "NCIS" re-runs on the USA Network and a snack or three before I take my rest..ergo.."nite all"....[17:32 UTC-5]..../....

   One glance at the weather forecast this morning for the next couple of days and the walk to Price Chopper..T J Maxx & the convenience store that I was trying to decide weather I'd take it today or tomorrow was made for me..ergo..just after 09:00 this morning I headed out..now we had received a dusting of snow over night and the sidewalk had a thin covering of fresh snow..so I as a precaution slowed my pace down a little fearing that it might be a little slippery in spots..but it wasn't..first to Price Chopper..fresh garlic..shallots..two poblano peppers..a bottle of prepared horseradish and a box of Little Debby Star Crunch bars..also looked for a baguette but their didn't have the multi-grain one that I like so passed on that..T J Maxx..just a bottle of Rosemary spice..hag used the last I had and was having trouble finding it..well that's not entirely true..Price Chopper had it..but at a price I wasn't willing to pay..I got it at T J Maxx at a fair price and better quality to boot..now I prefer to think of myself as frugal..now I've friends who call me a "penny pincher"..now a likeness of Abe Lincoln appears on that coin..now when I do pinch the occasional penny they suggest to Lincoln that he stop by Urgent Care..but my dad..when he pinched a penny they sent Lincoln directly to the ICU & alerted the morgue..so I learned my frugality at the feet of a master..finally a stop at the convenience store for a tube of my chew and another pleasant chat with the manager whom I've know for last several years..and then back to my rooms..will have to schedule a walk to Aldi later in the week but not before Wednesday or Thursday..have spent the rest of the day online and a little TV..have everything pretty well in-hand and am trying to decided how to spend the rest of my evening before I take my rest..ergo.."Nite All"....[16:52 UTC-5]..../....oops I apparently for got to publish this last night..this is the post for Monday and what follows is Today's..dummkopf..../....

   We've gotten very little fresh snow..but with the winds out of the west/south/west i'd be surprised if the high elevations to the south and east of use didn't get more than we have..most of the heavier snow falls in these parts occur when thew prevailing winds are from the aforementioned direction..during the Blizzard of '77 we here in the Northcountry of NYS got clobbered over an 8 day period & the prevailing winds were from the w/s/w..but one of the factors with that storm were that the temperatures were in the mid-teens..which is typical of heavy snowfalls in this region..this storm with temperature in the mid to upper 20s..general snowfalls are far lighter despite coming from the same direction..../....

   Except for a brief trip up the hallway to check with housekeeping about the approximate time of their arrival to do my regularly scheduled cleaning of my rooms I haven't been out of my rooms all day..didn't want to get involved in anything I didn't want to be interrupted while doing..the last few mornings I've awoke with a little stiffness in my lower back..and haven't done anything I was aware of to cause that..so it's been awhile so I had them "flip" my mattress..I'll see if that helps..has in the past when I've had similar symptoms..../....Some decent movies on this evening on AMC..and intend to watch the last part of "G I Jane" and most of "Shawshank Redemption"..but a shower first & a meal and probably a snack or three during the flicks..Had a pretty good AM session on Pokerist this morning and although I usually play again in the evening I think I''ll probably forego that today..also one or two things still on my online addendum for this afternoon.. ..ergo.."nite all"....[16:03 UTC-5]..../....

   Just by observation out my windows I think we actually have less ground cover of snow than we did before the "Winter Storm"..the rain and warmer temperatures that preceded the snow fall melt more of the previous snow ground cover than the overnight snows "replaced"..now I do live right in a small city which was not within the area that the heaviest snows were expected..that area is just below us to the south and east..Tug Hill..a high plateau..is known for heavy snow fall..but as of right now have heard nothing about how much they may or may not have gotten..but at least here where I reside..the storm was a bust..other than keeping me in my rooms for the last couple of days..which I may have done anyways..../....The weather for the next few days while turning colder there are no storms in the forecast and I'm considering a walk tomorrow to Price Chopper and T J Maxx and then to Aldi on Tuesday..../....

   At this point the predicted storm hasn't amount to much..all we've gotten is some light intermittent rain..but a glance at the radar..we/ve been getting just the trailing edge of the storm..and it seems at this point that the winds are more out of the northwest than from the west as predicted..??..and if the temperature stays about the same as now..it wouldn't surprise me if all we got was rain..on the other hand the Tug Hill Plateau with is a little south and east of us here and at a higher elevation..might get some significant snow..but as an old friend of my back in the day used to say that the weatherman was he only person he knew that got paid for being right only 25% of the time..../....but forewarned is forearmed..and I rather would do as I did and go out yesterday and get extra food for the the possible eventuality that we'd be snowed in for a couple of days..then not do it and find out that this was one of the 25% when they were right..../....

   Have spent the day warm and dry in my "fortress of solitude" save for the short trip to the lobby this afternoon for my traditional toffee coffee..the usual routine..I have recently changed sites were I play "live" poker..both the former and the present are "free" sites..no real money changes hands..only faux game money..and discovered that there is an FB players group for the game which I have joined..as with most of the online games there is no tutorial..and you have to figure out some of the workings yourself ..maybe I can pickup some hints..../....anyways...have no plans to venture out of my warm..cozy..dry rooms until Monday at the earliest..still a couple of things to deal with both on & off line before I take my rest..ergo.."nite all"...

   Taking in to account the predicted temperature for the pending storm..the snow is very likely to be very wet snow..which may take some time to be removed..and the though of having to slog thru maybe as much as 7" of it brings me no joy ..ergo..it maybe Tuesday before this gimpy..grumpy..old codger who walks with a cane will be willing &/or able to venture out..with that in mind..about 09:00 this morning took a walk to Aldi to pick up enough bananas to get me thru to Tuesday ..and other things as well..they haven't had the sliced dry salami the last couple of times I've look to got one of those as well as well as a can of pears..and after checking the "winter pantry" decided there were a few other items..mostly canned goods that I probably should re-stock..with the nice weather I haven't been adding to the "winter pantry as "religiously" as I should be..so a another walk about 14:30 to Dollar General to get those few items..I had bought several weeks ago a small storage bowl with a cramp on lid..and decided I needed another so picked that up as well..I always try try to keep at least a couple of weeks of food on hand in case the weather makes get out impossible..or at least inadvisable..and although my knees and feet have been behaving for last three years or so there have been times in the past that I've needed two canes just to get around my rooms..so the supply of food is there for that eventuality as well..on the other hand the storm might not amount to any where near as bad as predicted..but forewarned is forearmed..../....Not much on the old "boob tube" tonight..but the number of new member request on the FB group "The Farthest Side" have been higher than /usual so will have to keep on that..and I sense a snack in my future before I take my rest..ergo.."nite all"....[16:58 UTC-5]..../....

   From the look of the forecast and the issuing of a "Winter Weather Warning" it appears that we're in for quite a stretch of nasty weather over the week end..and I have decided that barring the zombie apocalypse I'll walk tomorrow to Aldi and maybe pickup a couple of extra items..for my winter pantry..can never be to careful up here when bad weather is on the way..../....got an early jump on the day's online tasks and took an hour off for 1st meal and watched an "NCIS" episode.. when of my favs that had the child star Abigail Breslin..as a young blind girl..and then about 13:30 with the incoming storm in mind..just a few extra things for the weekend..at Ollie's a package of dried apricots..were always one of my dad's favorite snacks and mine as well and a bag of pretzel pieces & at Dollar General..a bottle of Gatorade Zero..1 packages of Snicker Doodles..and four apple pocket pies..have enough regular food for several days but was running low on snacks & dessert type items..and if all goes well tomorrow I'll be ready to weather whatever the weather has in-store for me..now if we lose cable or internet..my next posting maybe from the local psych ward (hehe)..I have been know from time to time to fall prey to a little "Cabin Fever"..but with age it's hasn't been an issue for many years..../....FB is apparently having technical issues and the pages we use to vet new members are not functioning correctly..hope they get the issue fixed because the backlog is growing steadily..oy vey..that a a couple other things still on the docket for today before I take my rest..ergo.."nite all"....[17:08 UTC-5]..../....

   Slept pretty good last night and got a decent "jump" on the days activities..was ahead of schedule to decided to take my walk to the ATM & Aldi's around 09:00..and since my short cuts were impassible I decided to go to the ATM first..rather than the other way around..got my "10 day walking around money and got to the cross walk hit the button to activate the "walk light"..dang..that corner is also a "bus-stop" and there was a guy waiting for the bus..which stop just before the "walk sequence"..blocking the cross walk and I had to wait thru another sequence..oy vey..just the usual fare at Aldi save for a package of dates..I've had the brand before..but these were especially succulent..soft and tasty..a couple of chats with the kids that work there..nice girls..and then back to my rooms..../....Tuesday being housekeeping day I had barely gotten back when they arrived..my night light in the "little boy's room" and the maintenance guy got me a new bulb..which also blew immediately..so now I've got a new style one..no off/of switch..it has a sensor with auto-turns itself on when the light goes out..not as bright as the olde one..but being right next to the light switch..bright enough..../....I watch the flick.."Captain Marvel" last night..now most super-hero movies by their very nature are a little far-fetched..but this one was surreal..full of flashbacks and dream sequences..and is set at the very beginnings of S.h.i.e.l.d..Fury still has both eyes..very weird.. strange flick..but..once you got the hang of it..not a bad watch..and I'd probably watch it again now that I've got a handle on what's going on..besides Captain Marvel is easy on the eyes..../....have the day well in hand and other than a meal and maybe an episode of "Rizzoli & Isles" my day is pretty much down..ergo.."nite all"....[17:56 UTC-5]..../....

   Had a decent nights sleep..and had completed the "Quests" for the day on "Pokerist so just after 08:30 took a walk to the convenience store for my chew and had a extended chat with the manager whom I've know for the better part of 8 years or so..she has what most people would read as a "hard edge" to her personality but she's a good sort when you get to know her..and then a stop at Dollar General for a 6-pack of 7.5 oz. cans of Dr Pepper..and a jug of tomato juice..and I nice chat with one of the kids that works there..and save for two quick trips to the lobby: first for some things for breakfast just after 07:00 and then just before 15:00 for a cup of toffee coffee have been in my rooms all day..Have penciled in a trip to Aldi for tomorrow AM and a detour to the ATM to pickup my "10 day walking around money"..light snow is in the forecast most days for the next week or so with temperatures in the mid-20s to lower 30s..traditionally January has always been the coldest month here in the Northcountry of NYS..I can remember one maybe 40 years ago that the temperature was below 0*F at least part of everyday  and there was a 12 day run where it never was above 0*F..and windchills of -40*F were common..so it's odd to have what I'd consider a very mild January..../....still one or three things to do..ergo.."nite all"....[16:16 UTC-5]..../....

   It's funny how things workout sometimes..I had played 2 hours of Pokerist this morning and had played 46 minutes before I ever won a hand..just couldn't "catch"a hand..bur did win a few pots later in the session..now everyday there are "Quests" things you can do to make extra cash..one of them this morning was win three hands with "Three of a Kind or High"..well I had managed to make two..so decided to go out this afternoon and play until I made one more.. figured I'd be there awhile..played nine minutes..eight hands..won four hands..three with 2-pairs & the last with a straight and left..couldn't have scripted it better if I had tried..../....

   Had slept pretty good last night but awoke about 03:30 and decided to roll back over..the next time I saw the clock it was 04:20..and with the/usual off-line morning routine was 04:40 before I ever logged on to the net..so have been playing "catch-up" all day...one of my fav movies is being show tonight @17:00 on AMC.."Space Cowboys" so I'd like everything else completed by that time so I can sit in my recliner and enjoy the movie..but everything has worked out so far..didn't have any compelling reason to walk..didn't need anything in fact except for a trip or two to the lobby have no reason to venture out of my rooms until Tuesday..../....

   Something a little different this afternoon..while in high school many years ago I played french horn in the high school band..we were a concert band..but during the month of May..practiced marching and marched in as many as three Memorial Day Parades..but since you only needed two french horns for march music most years I played percussion instruments.. cymbals..bass drum..tenor drum & one year glockenspiel..we had ones that were modified for marching.. We played mostly Sousa marches and also had marches written in a Dixie Land Style..actually some of it was fun..on the other hand marching in high collar West Point style uniforms in 80*F+ temperatures was no fun atall....

    Had a decent night's sleep last night to bed just after 20:00 awoke about 23:30 & the next time I saw the clock it read 03:15..ergo..rolled back over..next time it was just past 04:00..so some what of a late start to the day..but there again..it ain't like punching a time clock anymore..dang..I just Google "time clocks"..what ever happen to mechanical clocks and cardboard time cards..man I've been retired longer than I thought..dang..again..in order to find a time clock of the type I used I had to Google "punch time clocks vintage"..oy vey..../....Save for a couple of trips to the lobby for items for breakfast and earlier this afternoon for a toffee coffee I've been warm and cozy in my "fortress of solitude" all day..did cut short my usual 2 hours of poker this morning to an hour rather than the usual two hours..not because of the late start but that I had completed the "Daily Quest" and really had no need to continue playing..../...."Justice League" is on in just over an hour from now..probably will pop out on Pokerist to play a few more hands and then it's into the recliner for some TV..ergo.."nite all"....[16:24 UTC-5]..../....

   Not the best night's sleep last night but then I've had worse..pretty typical start to the day and was well on my way to getting everything done..ergo..needed to walk to Aldi either today or tomorrow and decided to go this morning so just after 09:00 off I went..but not before I checked the weather..temperature was in the upper teens but with a north/north?east wind@7 mph..that put the windchill@+8*F..so I got on the old Carhart jacket and off I went..a cloudy day..and every so often just a few very small snow flakes would pass me by..got too Aldi..just then  typical fare but did get a round of Edam cheese..which later became an ingredient in what we would have called back in the Buffalo NY area where I grew up a hoagie or a grinder..essentially a small submarine sandwich..I had got a multi-grain baguette at Price Chopper the other day..about 20" longer which I've divided into 5" potions..some sliced roasted beef..oil..vinegar.. spices..salt/pepper..some fresh grated horseradish..some chopped green onion..and the aforementioned Edam cheese..and into the microwave for 80 seconds..and a bottle of Black Raspberry sparkling water..and enjoyable light lunch..for many reasons I do not do the "three-squares" /day routine..I find for many reasons for me it works out better to eat four or five times a day but smaller meals..now that wasn't always the case..4th year in college when I was in shape..running cross-country and training for the Boston Marathon..a frosh who was taking Biology..needed to have someone keep track of their daily caloric intake for a class assignment and picked me..now at the time I was running between 75 & 100 miles a week..was just under 5'8" tall and weight 142 lbs..blew both her and her prof's mind..I didn't gain an once and over a week averaged 7,000 calories a day..if I did that now I'd probably weigh 500 lbs..and my resting heart rate was 36 beats/minutes..but there again I was 21/22 years old..not 73..& if I tried to run now I'd probably trip over my cane and bust my tuckus..../....some TV and another meal and a last check in on "The Farthest Side" await me..ergo.."nite all"....[17:39 UTC-5]..../....

   Got a decent night's sleep last night but awoke a little gimpy..sore and grumpy..now I always wake up a little grumpy..I have never been a morning person and always wake up in less than a great mode regardless when morning is/was.. During the years that I was working I work every imaginable shift..days..evenings_overnights..split-shifts...8 hour days.. 12 hours days and some times double shifts..now the plant I worked at sat right next to the Black River and was the major drain off the west side of the Adirondack Mountains..and in the spring time with the runoff of the melted snow in spring the water level would exceed flood stage..well I got a call to the shop one year on Easter..13:00 in the afternoon..I was the shipping/receiving/warehouse supervisor at the time..what a mess..there was a foot and a half of water in the parking lot..they had crews sandbagging but I has storage trailers that had to be moved..transfers of materials to an off site warehouse (not within the flood zone)..what a wild night..and left the shop at noon the next day..tired..cold..and soaked to the bone..got home..took a hot bath and almost fell a sleep in the bath tube..another time I was working 16:00 to 00:30 as lead-man/maintenance man and if my relief didn't get in on time I had to stay.. Monday shift.. just before 23:00 he called in sick..about 00:30 his wife called wanting to speak to him.."He called in sick" ..from the phone.."He did what?(expletive deleted)..never saw him again..and ended up working 3-16 hour shifts & 1-10 hour shift in-a-row..oy vey..there were times I hated the place but never on Thursday..payday..I was making a decent hourly wage and got time & a half for overtime..and that's not even mentioning the calls I'd get at 02:00 in the morning when I was working day shift..or the old school beeper I carried 24.7..but it was a living..dang am I glad I'm retired.... /....still a few things to sort out before I take my rest..ergo.."nite all"....[16:59 UTC-5]..../....

   I awoke at 03:15 and tried to roll back over and get a little more sleep and it didn't take long for me to decided that it was indeed a lost cause and got up around 03:30..the weird thing about it was I  got kickin' around Youtube and never went to bed until nearly 21:00..and hour or so later than/usual..[can be seen scratching his old grey head]..but took care of a couple of first thing in the morning issues and was online by 03:45..by 08:00 so took a break had my first meal of the day and watched an episode of "NCIS" on the USA Network..by noon had 12:30 and everything done except for two more rotations thru the eight solitaire games I play on "World of Solitaire" so decided to finish that later..had another meal and off to Price Chopper..just some shallots..a baguette..some sliced beef..2 beef & bean burritos & a couple of packages of fish snacks..I swear it took me longer to get thru the checkout line than it did to select my groceries..because I carry everything in my sling bag..I always have them cut it in half so it fits..and had a nice chat with the young fella that I've chatted with for the last couple of years..he's a new father..a little girl who will be one in a month or two..and with the checkout girl whom I've know for several years..and a pleasant walk both ways..truth be told I could have waited a couple of days before I needed to go for the groceries..just an excuse to take a walk and get some fresh air..../....Have spent the day other than the above mentioned walk quietly in my rooms..although I do enjoy the casual interaction with the peeps I met while shopping/walking..I must admit I enjoy the solitude as well..of course I do interact with peeps thru Facebook and the live poker games but it's not the same as face to face..and I quite frankly avoid getting involved in other peoples problems and issues..except only occasionally and on my own terms..because of my essential tremors I do everything I can to avoid stress which can cause me to experience a tremor..something I'd rather not experience..../....still a thing or three that require my attention..ergo.."nite all"....[16:29 UTC-5]..../....

   Went to bed just after 20:00 and in a rare occurrence for me only awoke in the night around 23:30 & the next time nearly 03:30..well I rolled back over one and after a few minutes realized I wasn't getting back to sleep so gave up and got up..and was on line by about 03:45 so got an early jump on the day so about 08:45..had a place where I could take a break and decided to take the walk to Aldi which I needed to take either today or tomorrow..so off I went..although I live right across the street from it..jay-walking on Arsenal St..one of the busiest streets in the small city I live for the gimpy,,grump old codger who walks with a cane is not something I'd do..even at 09:00 on a weekday..so down to the closest crosswalk and by towards Aldi..and that cross walk is no picnic either..despite traffic regulations if I am crossing in a cross walk w/the walk light I have the right of way..obviously some of the local drivers haven't read the regulations lately..and have had many close calls at both that crosswalk and other one I use to the west..oy vey..but not this morning..traffic was surprisingly light..got the usual fare..bananas..some cheddar and other essentials..and had short chats with a couple of the "kids" that work there..and then back to my rooms..with getting ready..taking the walk..the walk back..a short chat with "J" one of the other residents and getting my purchases away elapse time was about an hour..and took  a few breaks during the day..for meals and a couple of episodes of "Rizzoli & Isles"..bur it's now approaching 17:00 and virtual even thing is either done or well in hand..I'm having a debate with myself as to how I'll spend  the rest of my day..a meal certainly..maybe some "surfing" the net..or more "Rizzoli & Isles"..and maybe another go at "Pokerist"..anyways..ergo.."nite all"....[16:55 UTC-5]..../....

   When I awoke this morning I'm not sure why but my right knee was sore..painful..and a little gimpy..not sure whether I had slept awkwardly on it or if it just took this morning to remind me of the damage I've done to it during my lifetime ..but I had wanted to walk today..needed a  few things at Ollie's and Dollar General..so decided to do something I rarely do and took a gel cap of Tylenol..and after I had completed the bulk of my daily online gaming it felt pretty good or rather as good as it ever feels and decided to walk about 12:30..but before I left put an application of a typical analgesic cream on it..a little "Icy Hot"..and got thru the trip without incident..I decided to check whether or not my short-cut to the plaza just down the hill might be passable despite the banks of snow from plowing..and although a tad dicey with a bit of care it was passable so it wasn't necessary to walk the long way..although cool it was a pleasant walk howbeit a tad foggy..I had bought a bottle of organic lemon juice imported from Italy and found it most pleasing..for a buck and decided that since I had bought it at Ollie's..a discount outlet..than I'd better get another for the pantry because once they're gone they're gone for ever..usually..and while there decided to get two..when I visit my bro and his wife's place for holiday dinners I usually take a gift bag of food related items and I think "K" my bro's wife is maybe even a bigger foodie than I am..and know she'd enjoy it..also a bottle of mouth wash..and at Dollar General a 6-pack of 7.5 oz. Dr Pepper & a roll of duct-tape..I've got a rip in my sling bag which I'm hoping I can repair with the tape..and if not I'll think of something else..even if the something else is to look for a hew sling back..I bought the present one about 40 years ago..for $5 at a "Yard Sale" used..ergo..it certainly doesn't owe me anything..../....Not much left to be done this evening before I take my rest..maybe some TV or a few more hands of poker on "Pokerist"..ergo.."nite all"....[17:06 UTC-5] ..../....

   Except for two trips to the lobby today..just after 07:00 to pickup some items from the breakfast buffet and later this afternoon for a toffee coffee..and on the way back toffee coffee in-hand I did stick my head out the side door and said hello to "H"..one of the other residents here who was outside smoking..but save that I've been in my room all day..mostly online but I did watch parts of a few episodes of "Beat Bobby Flay" on the Food Network..but as/usual I spent most of my time online..playing my Sims&Solitaire games..and three hours+ of online poker on the "free sites" "Pokerist"..no real money changes hands..just faux game money..but I enjoy the play..and fulfilling my duties as moderator on the FB site "The Farthest Side"..and of course tending to my blogs..../....I mentioned in last nights posting here about the incident at the convenience store with the Mennonite family who were not wearing masks..and the more I thought about it..the more it bothered me..It's been quite awhile since I mentioned it here but I am what you might describe as a Conservative..Fundamentalist..Charismatic Christian of the old school..and have a bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies..advanced studies in philosophy..and 100s of hours of private study..and taught Christian Education for Adults (aka:Sunday School) in different local churches for many years and have done some pulpit supply..now I don't care what someone believed or doesn't believe in their home or in their own communities..but when they interact with society in general they should conform to legitimate local regulations..especially because the scriptures clearly teach that we as Christians should be subject to the civil authorities under which we live..the worst of it is that they are recognizable as a Christian Sect and those of us people of faith tend to be painted with the same "wide brush" that they are..[end rank]..../....Just a few things still on the docket before I take my rest..ergo..nite all....[18:19 UTC-5]..../....

   The aftereffects of the winter storm from last night didn't not live up to the predictions..if there was any freezing rain..and evidence of it was washed away by the following rain..although I didn't get up and look this after I retire last night I could hear pretty stiff winds and rain bouncing off my winds..which happen to face the direction of last night's storm's accompanying winds..guess I could have looked but I was warm and comfortable in bed and decided it wasn't worth the effort..I was done with all but a couple of details of my online day (this blog being one of those details)..looked out the window and decided it didn't look so bad..ergo..got dressed to take a look and for the most part the sidewalks looked bare do decided to take the walk to the west today and to the east tomorrow..and except for one short section of sidewalk it was ok..there is one commercial property on the north-side of Arsenal St> at the intersection of Western Blvd..where the sidewalk is never properly maintained as far a s snow removal is concerned so I ended up briefly on the shoulder of the street..T J Maxx..didn't see anything that caught my eye..and than the convenience store..there were a group of mennonites oh the ladies had their tradition little bonnets on (as a kid we used to call the "sin sifters")..but neither the ladies or the men wore masks..oy vey..am sure in their own minds they have reasons why..but I find it at the very least inconsiderate..../....On the way back to my rooms decided at the spur of the moment to continue my walk and pick up the few things I needed at Aldi..just the usual fare..had a nice chat with a couple of the "kids" that work there and then back to my rooms..../....With this post hearing it's conclusion..my online tasks for the day are completed..me thinks a meal and some TV sounds good before I take my rest..ergo..nite all....[16:13 UTC-5]..../....

    I took one look at the weather forecast for tonight this morning and decided rather then wait until tomorrow or Sunday to get my "ten day walking around money"..I'd take the walk up to the ATM this early afternoon..but what during the warmer weather is just a short trip up the hill to the bank branch next door..maybe a total trip of 200 yds all told..but in winter with the plowed banks of snow making my usual shortcuts inadvisable the trek all the way around by sidewalk and parking lot totals about 700 yds..dang I hate winter..but when I walked it was sunny..a light breeze and probably mid-20s F w/windchill and was a quite pleasant walk which I enjoyed greatly..have errands to run in both directions but the advanced weather for Sunday and Monday looks promising..and if we do get even a  little freezing rain this gimpy_ grump_old codger with balance issues thoroughly intends to remain indoors until that issue is dealt with..after all both Aldi & Price Chopper deliver..../....  

   Had a decent night's sleep and as I mentioned below I was snug in my bed by just after 20:00 and rolled out just before 04:00 with only two brief interruptions..[dang diuretic}..and save for the trip to the ATM & a trip to the lobby this AM for a few things from the breakfast buffet I have been warm_comfortable and safe in my rooms all day and have no intentions of venturing out tomorrow..../....

   Still a few details that need to be dealt with before I take my rest..and I'm considering another session of poker on "Pokerist" be that..and of course a snack or two as well..ergo.."nite all"....[17:38 UTC-5]..../....
